You're going to use cost as a factor when you are saying your friends intend to pick up two move controllers to play? Those two controller put you at the same cost as Kinect. Also, the "all my friends" argument is hilarious. Obviously you and your friends are entirely indicative of every consumer who may consider Kinect, right? Come on.

Wow MS, come on now. I've been inclined to buy multiplatform titles on the 360 because of the friends list and uniformity of Live, but I guarantee you that if developers such as Valve start providing more on the PS3 this will change. Portal 2 will be a PS3 purchase because I know that Valve will support the game fully through Steam. Half-Life 3 will also end up as a PS3 purchase. Rethink this MS because I won't be the last one that makes this decision.

Logjam, really?

Anyway, my comments dont have anything to do with just this year, they have to do with Microsoft as a game publisher in general. That list of exclusives, MS owns 3 of those IPs. Even Alan Wake isn't an MS owned IP. So the other 3 (Mass Effect is already going Multiplat) could very likely appear on the PS3. Based on your response I have to assume you are a fan of the 360. You can't honestly tell me that you don't have reservations about how they pro...

I'll amend this slightly to add Crackdown to the list, but the big problem here is that usually a sequel is supposed to be better or at least equal to the original. Crackdown 2, while fun (i do own it as well), is not up to the original. I just wish I could get a bead on the company. Thinking back to the original Xbox, MS took chances....Kakuto Chojin, Blinx, Azurik, Grabbed by Ghoulies. Early with the 360 they also looked to be trying to hit other "niche" titles.....Kameo (unde...

I don't think Halo is milked at all. I believe the main reason it looks that way is because its basically the main franchise on the platform. It's a lot easier to forgive multiple instances of Sony franchises because there are so many. And with Nintendo's use of say Mario, he is used in so many different types of games that it surpasses just platformers. Halo is no more milked than any other key franchise for a console maker.

That last quote is the perfect example of why MS will never truly surpass Sony or Nintendo in the games industry. Neither Sony or Nintendo are afraid to make Niche games. They are both willing to put money on the line for games that may or may not sell well. The end result is a number of exclusive titles that MS doesn't have the guts to release.

MS on the other hand sees fit to release Halo, GeOW (and god knows how long that will be exclusive), Fable, Forza, and PGR. Tha...

Actually I want to know how this game/PS Eye combination compares to Kinect. To date I have yet to see how exactly this plays for real, and the only thing I can figure is that it prerecords some actions by the player and then as they act out crazy in front of the camera it plays back those different clips. Then again I haven't seen any video yet of anyone playing the thing. If there is any online can someone post a link?

@jack_burton

It is an IR camera, just as I mentioned. Look at any technical specs for the wiimote and that's exactly what they call it. I specifically mentioned that it obviously doesn't have the functionality of a normal camera, but it is a camera nonetheless. So you can call me nologikil all you want, but when you don't know what you are talking about it makes you look like the moron sorry to say. You fail bud, sorry.

@DJ Marty

You are wrong on quite a few of these.

Both the Wiimote and Move can track in 3D Space and in similar fashions. Essentially they are both determining the size of a point relative to the camera. In the case of move it is determining the change in size of the ball on the controller relative to the camera with the Wii it is determining i believe the return of the ir light from the bar to the Wiimote.

Tether free wireless - that's r...

There couldn't be a patent dispute between Sony and Nintendo when it comes to the Move/Wiimote because the two devices function in different ways. Wiimote uses a camera in the Wiimote that sees the light coming from the strip. The Move uses the camera to view the move remote. Had Sony done the exact same thing as Nintendo then there may have been potential for complaint. That's not to say the two are not similar because they obviously are, I am just speaking to the issue of patents.

@cgoodno

Not even close. There are no named developers not to mention that the industry veterans, based on the reading seems to only incorporate the opinions of 2 people who, again, are not named. Not to mention that the Kinect part of the article is a throwaway line at the end. I hate articles like this. Gofanboy and another purely trash article for hits. Congrats boys.

The articles quoting Alex Kipman are from January of this year. The Ubisoft claims are from this month. Is it not possible that between then and now things have tightened up? Also, the articles from Mr. Kipman don't go into detail regarding what type of processing would prompt the 10-15%. I suspect its possible to choose to only do certain types of detection based on the game in question. The honest truth is that it is possible that both individuals are correct. However, until you hear an...

They must be talking about their own distribution of the game, because its been on Steam for a while now. The article didn't really mention the delivery method though it does mention SteamPlay. Not really sure whats news about this.

SC2 runs fine. Blizzard has always supported the Mac, and it runs just as you would expect it to. Problem is my macbook pro is crazy old :(. There is a weird thing with how it seems to affect the network though. For some reason when i play aft...

And I still can't figure out why every time someone says controller free gaming, they forget that Kinect can be used in ways that would also incorporate a standard controller. Why does that fact seem to escape people. Yes, the gimmick is that it provides controller free gaming and navigation of the system, but the fact remains that not every game is suited for this, there simply is no disputing this. MS knows this. So if there is at some point a need or call for a pointing wand solution f...

What did they say that was not correct? They said that it could detect sitting people. It can. They didn't just disappear from the screen when they sat, it just didn't know how to draw them correct. Programming libraries get updated and viola, now they are detected normally. Where is the problem? MS is not a hardware company, this isn't some strange thing, it's an absolute fact. So the fixes they implement, and the company's strong suit in general, is going to be on the so...

Wow a disagree to saying that Kinect uses similar mathematical calculations to determine where a person is in 3D space. I suppose then that if it doesn't use traditional (or likely more complex) x,y,z axis coordinate math, then perhaps there is a little gnome that stands next to the Kinect and tells it where you are standing.

5647d ago 3 agree1 disagreeView comment

How can you possibly make that kind of statement about the exclusives that will come to Kinect? Look at first gen games for both the 360 and PS3, straight out of the gate. Compared to now, they are dog shit. As the tech matures and people get more familiarized with it things will ultimately change, assuming it has a long enough life span for that to happen. I want to get both control systems, but honestly what is it about Move that you see as so revolutionary. The games its been tacked onto a...

5647d ago 0 agree4 disagreeView comment

I'm pretty sure that Kinect does something similar. It's all computer based it has to provide the coordinate data. Move does it by using the gyro sensors and judging the distance to the ball based on its size representative to the camera. Kinect is using the RGB and Depth camera to accomplish the same thing.
