Looks like the 360 is in pretty good shape. Obviously the Wii is on the decline, but then again, it had nowhere to go but down. And selling 500K of Wii Sports Resort in a week obviously helps.
The Ps3 is obviously in a not so great position, with months straight of negative YoY growth, when it needs the exact opposite. But its still alive and kicking.
But one has to look beyond the numbers and understand the $$$ behind them. The Wii which has high SW and HW sales...
I couldn't seriously care less about the never-ending flamewar here at N4G, but this gasoline soaked article is just too juicy to ignore.
There it is in plain english from Carmack himself. Doesnt get any easier.
Have fun....
Its been a loooong while, and I see things are exactly the same. Has anyone won yet?
I dont think any of the companies should leave HW. Hell, I wish SEGA was still out there!
I think people are getting far too defensive in here, which is to be expected.
But obviously thats a question for Sony to decide. If they dont see a foreseeable future in selling gaming HW, then they would have to do what financially makes sense. As much as they are incessantly argued over here, the 360 and PS3 are far more similar than different. I would not be too surprise...
"We think that the PS3 will capture significant market share, primarily due to Sony’s victory in the high definition DVD format war, and will end up in second place by 2015?"
2015? Im sure Sony's shareholders will love that.
Its just a mashed up trailer with some music behind it.
Both games look great. I played Forza 3 at E3, and it looks incredible. Im sure GT will also be a great looking game.
but the constant "mine is bigger than yours!" over these two games is just stupid. One has more cars, the other more tracks, etc.
How about just waiting for both to come out?
its not just the blood; its the cutting off of limbs. Apparently, they just disappear in a poof of smoke or something like that. Sure loses a great deal of visceral goodness without limbs flying everywhere.
But if youre buying strictly for the gameplay, not a deal-breaker necessarily.
from wikipedia:
the North American 80 GB model also excludes the PlayStation 2 "Emotion Engine" CPU chip. However, it still keeps the "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU. Due to elimination of the "Emotion Engine", the level of compatibility was reduced
Would be nice if they implement this...I still gotta finish SotC
EDIT: So not only must they emulate the CPU (Emotion Engine), they have to also emulate the GPU. With the 80GB model...
Interesting. But if Im not mistaken, it stopped working after u update to 2.8. I also hear that youporn.com stopped working too...another MS conspiracy? lol
Either way, it was far from an ideal experience on PS3. Syncing issues coupled with the clunky PS3 browser often produced less than ideal results for me. But not to say it didnt work at all, sometimes it worked fine, even thru my PSP.
I find that I have that problem with the PS3 browser. Sometimes I can g...
Halo has always been a gorgeous game. Only the haters will tell you otherwise.
Just look at any screenshot foe Halo 3, which are all REAL. It still looks better than most stuff out there.
Even from the little bit I played of ODST, there are some graphic tweaks and it looks awesome (I played Firefight, the night level).
Halo fans will be very happy (Halo 3 almost at 10 million...). The haters will just have to sulk.
Why did anyone ever waste the energy with this is beyond me. It was just announced as an exclusive weeks ago. Plus, I think we all know how Valve feels about the PS3.
This was always a baseless story.
I played this game at E3, and felt the controls were a bit loose (though I didnt get to tweak them), but I never had a prob killing things.
Graphically it was pretty good, but I did just get a small taste, and a lot of the monitors there aren't calibrated very well (go figure...).
I will definitely look to rent it at the very least.
I thought this was a bad idea as soon as it was announced. To think that the PSP Go has the same appeal as the iPod Touch is mistaken.
At $250, Im not sure what market they think they will tap into further. While the PSP Go is smaller, its not iPod Touch small, and doesnt represent anything really better than the PSP-3000 for the higher price, except for being a bit smaller.
It still wont compete with the DS, unless it starts becoming attractive to more kids and gi...
@ Forrest
Perhaps you werent at E3, because there was ALWAYS a line to play ODST. I had to wait 30 min, and that was at the end of day one.
@meonyou
Sour a bit? You know you dont seriously believe that crap you said.
Both of you should try your brand of Halo-envy elsewhere, it will get no play around here.
I played it at E3, literally as it was closing up on 2nd day. I was looking for either a MW2 or Dj Hero demo, which there was neither of, but I found Prototype, which was tucked away in the corner.
From a standstill, Infamous may look better, but once its in action, Prototype looks great. The action is insane, and the controls are super easy to pick up. I didnt notice any pop-in or slowdown. One of the guys at Radical saw how fast I picked it up and pointed out some other sick...
Thats one ringing endorsement Ghost. I seriously think I will go buy this based on your mini-review.
You just earned some serious points in my book for being honest.
This game is getting higher marks elsewhere, but even for a pretty negative review, 7.5 ain't bad.
I do have some serious problems with a 5.5 in GFX. Thats pretty low. The game is not a technical showpiece, but it shouldn't be lower than a 7.5-8. But that is this guy's opinion.
87 so far on meta for the 360 version...93 PS3. Ill just average that to a 90 since the games are identical.
@ above
Ghost did school on that. Much props.
Is that where you live Ryback? I coulda SWORE that Infamous is averaging a 8 in GFX at best...
Spinning best you can? Dizzy yet? Care to give a REAL reason why a game that Sony even secured European exclusivity for STILL performs better on a 360? Even after a required 4 GB install?
I laugh at your terrible attempts to assert some superiority that is just unquestionable in your eyes. When will these "unbeatable" games start actually SELLING like it? ...
After E3 especially, I too wondered where this unbeatable Sony lineup was, especially after seeing and playing some of these games myself.
Biggest exclusive of the year between MS/Sony will be ODST of course, followed by Forza 3, then either Splinter Cell or L4D 2.
Those four may even change up a bit, but I dont seriously see any Sony exclusive this year touching any of those games. What you like better is all up to preference, but what will sell better I think is a...
Damn Halo...you just dont know when to quit. It hasnt even been a full 2 years yet, and its already at 10 million. And ODST is right around the corner.
I feel sorry for those that dont enjoy Halo 3, I really do. I love the first as much as anyone, but 3 is an obviously better game. But nostalgia can be a powerful drug.
I actually think Halo 2 is my personal favorite, but for me its like asking which one of my kids I like best (no, I dont have any kids....that I...
