I hope streaming is not the future. If it is then it means not owning a single game - rental only, always online, the ability of corporations to have total control of prices (no sales at stores or used) fast internet required, and is susceptible to network traffic and lag. Plus at the end they have the choice of when to remove titles and have them not available at all.
Companies WANT this more than ever because of the above reasons it is great for them, for consumers, not so...
It is tough because it isn't true BC. True BC is like the Wii playing Gamecube games, put in the disc and they just work. X1 BC needs games to be recompiled to run on X1 one by one as the architecture is so different (which is why you need to download the game digitally even if you have the disc).
It depends on the user. For those still in last gen it gives incentive to upgrade. For me it isn't a big deal as I still have my 360. Since buying the PS4 at launch though I simply don't have the time to go back to my X360. There are games I have for it that I still haven't beat and want to but my backlog on PS4 is so huge I doubt I will ever have time. I am into the Witcher 3 and have FO4 to get into, and about 10 PS4 games I still want but haven't bought as I have no tim...
@bluebenjamin
Tell me where I said A PS4 is soooo much more powerful? That is right I didn't. What I said was that they would look similar but xbone would be 900p. That is pretty standard for many third party titles, not a stretch. Both of you guys are a bit sensitive towards your xbone maybe? What I said was hardly a fanboy comment, except maybe in your own mind.
Because the xbone was the lead system it was optimized for that then ported to other pla...
And it would look basically the same on PC just a bit crisper and run smoother. The problem is that they chose the lowest common denominator, the xbone, as lead platform. They made it so that it would run at 1080p on it. What can the xbone handle at 1080p open world? not too much, even a BUDGET PC crushes the console performance. So that is what everyone gets as they went for parity. They should have targeted a decent PC then downgraded for the consoles as needed from there, the graphics...
That is what happens when they target the xbone as their lead platform. Since they chose the weakest system and tailored the graphics to where it could handle them at 1080p that is what you get. If they targeted the PC, then toned them down as needed it would have looked much better on the PC, ran better then it does now on PS4, and looked like it does now on xbone.
Well people do it to themselves, they fall for this crap. If gamers didn't pay for these they wouldn't have a reason to do it. There was an article on how gamers were lapping up microtransactions and DLC for COD and couldn't get enough.
Don't blame the companies for going for the easy money, blame yourself for buying it. Gamers that just can't help themselves are ruining gaming. Pretty soon all games will be doing this and all games will then be always...
Seems a bit of a stretch. It really doesn't really sound like a Dalek. Is just saying "exterminate" an easter egg? Maybe but if it said it higher pitched and like "EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! for sure.
I do know that Borderlands 2 was filled with Dr. Who references though.
Yeah Apple products made in China.
The price drop wasn't too little, their holiday first party game line up is.
Sony deserves to lose as they got lax with the exclusive first party games. They felt they didn't need to release anything to compete this season I suppose. When your only "big title" is a rehash of old PS3 uncharted games you are in trouble. Indies and talk of a niche VR headset that is a year away doesn't cut it as they are finding out. Having a bit more powerful hardware is no good if you don't show it with games. They keep saying "wait until next year"...
I will probably buy the GOTY edition, you know the finished bug fixed version with all DLC that they ripped from the original release.
I will pass on this beta test release. If I am going to be a beta tester they should be paying me.
I guess it needed 7-8 years then, and not use the weak xbone as the lead platform.
It looks like crap, totally not liking the cartoon art style. I guess that is what they had to do so that the xbone could run it at 1080p. Makes me wonder how good this would have looked if PC was the lead platform.
They did right by us? Really? Like rushing out an unfinished buggy mess that runs like pure crap? A game that was made with xbone assets and lazy ported to PC (and PS4 even which could have done better than xbone)with graphics designed for a GPU from the 90's?
If I had a gaming PC I would probably pirate this too. They don't put in the QA and optimizing effort why should we reward them?
Then there is the fact that if you buy the game you get stuck ...
More like a dick move. It is crap like this that makes me hate Microsoft.
I would personally like to play tomb raider. I won't touch FO4 until hey release the finished version. Fighting bugs, glitches and crashes at a glorious 20 FPS is no fun.
I guess the good news is with all of that extra time maybe TR will release with no day one patches and actually be a finished game on release.
@TFJWM
Maybe because FO4 is a buggy choppy mess. As soon as half of the quests break and the crap code nukes your save files you will need a finished game that works to play.
@BeefCurtains
It has been reported that the game was optimized on the xbone as the lead platform. It was then ported to PS4 and PC with no optimizations for those platforms. So what we get is what the xbone can do at 1080p which is less than the others. The game needs to be optimized for the PS4 architecture where the better GPU can take more load off of the CPU.
If you can wait it would be best to get that GOTY edition they always release with all of the DLC and bugfixes.
These days it seems all games are released a year before they should just to please shareholders. They are still finishing DriveClub and The Glitcher 3!
@Death
Ownership would have been removed with online checks to ask for permission to play "your" games. You don't really own something if you rely on a third party to always give you permission to use, trade sell borrow etc. You don't own it when a big corporation dictates when how and on what console the game will run on.
What about those without internet? What if your connection is down? What about those who just want freedom and liberty...
