Sony wanted movies on their portable, I reckon that to appease the studios, they chose a format which was harder to pirate. I think they've now recognised that the benefits of having a cheaper, faster, non-moving storage system beats out the advantage of UMD movies.
Your video card has access to your system memory as well as it's on board. I'm not sure if this is the case with the PS3.

The bubble commentary system here is a complete farce. Because they're awarded not for clarity of thought, but for idiotic partisan attitudes - if there is any imbalance in the audience's affiliations, no matter how small - the bubble system just acts as a feedback loop.
