How is it BC if you need the console?? That doesn't make any sense. Isn't the point of BC for the fact you won't need to console. PS4 is not a most ideal solution as you need to be stream the game from servers but it is BC since you don't need to box. So Wii U is the only system with the more traditional (More preferable IMO since it can be used at any time) disc based BC solution next gen.
Lesson here is if you want BC just keep the console.

It matters because all the killer advertised features cannot be used without said payment to MS. Why is TV guide behind a paywall it relays on your cable box. Why is Skype behind a paywall when it's free on every other platform including Windows phone and let's not forget they own Skype now and that every Xbox one has a kinect camera.
On Xbox the whole principle behind free to play is defeated since you need Xbox live to access it. Barrier to access is not what free to play is about.

Agreed a better and more beneficial use of the money would be for exclusive content as that makes sense. Like the additional missions included on watch dogs for ps3 and ps4. Just think of the amount of exclusive content MS could have gotten by now.
People buy into each system for exclusives why not extend that with additional content from third parties??

Great summary ign. Next-gen looks like it's going to be great especially the games coming out 2014.
It's great they finally listened and are including a headset now. This gen with be so much more sociable (hopefully - immature 12 yr olds) now that everyone has a headset by default. MS do well in improving when they backtrack. I have to say the Xbox one package is pretty sexy... dat liquid black and power button <3.
Now Sony where's your unboxing at... We need to see that sexy console :)
Oculus Rift is slowing making me believe more in VR gaming. This is perfect because you still have the superior interface of a controller for actions as suppose to using your hands like in motion gaming but with added immersion. Now I see what John carmack was talking about. This could be a great extension to a controller.

Yep exactly.... And the Games for gold thing is just an offer until around the time the Xbox one comes out.
That's the problem I have with live the value is just so low and add to that that we get non-gaming ads for a *premium* service is just sad.
Live= More things behind a paywall - party chat, certain apps, F2p games but it seems like a richer online experience( Smart match, Dedi servers)
PSN= Only online play lock behind a paywall.
But I think it's still early days to really compare them and after pay live for some time now I appreciate value more.

Yep... I still don't get the use of them especially while in-game... It just seems like a distraction to me. I can see to use when not playing the game like changing your loadout or something before you get home but it's not like that takes ages to do anyway.

Nice title for hits... Apart from that I fail to see how Nvidia shield will provide a compelling game experience. smart phone games are just not immersive enough IMO but the shield gets bonus points for having proper controls which fixes a massive issue with smartphone games.
Same I want a new experience this gen and more variety of games (less shooters) and more value in online and PS+ offerers that. I still need to get a PS3 at some point also can't miss the gems there ;). I joined this gen pretty late :(.
