I like this move. “Don’t tell us where to announce, we’ll do it where we want when we’re ready” they hold all of the cards so they earned it. It’s a big gamble esp when launching a console, but if done right they can build up the hype without all of the spectacle.
Then tell me what defines this as a console launch if there is no identifying feature of said launch outside another machine??? It’s essentially just the next iteration of Xbox one x and doesn’t need a big announcement. They’re creating a bunch of steam machines and should be categorized as such.

If you read the article this is no different than how ps1 and ps2 titles were supported long after their generation ended. This should make people feel good in that they don’t have to upgrade until their pockets are ready. However I still believe ms is doing this to skew the numbers and make them “look like” they’re comparable to ps due to units sold being bundled up under the entire user base and not individually anymore.
They will increment their user base under all Xboxes sold. They will no longer release numbers for individual consoles. They’ll be able to say “over 100 million xboxes sold”. It’s just more smoke and mirrors.
Sony understands you don’t go into a new console generation without having bombs, and in this case they have 2. This all but guarantees an easy victory over the service focused Xbox/cloud/game pass. Microsoft needs a new ip that’s a bomb at launch to make it interesting. No one is going into the store to buy a game system just because it’s more powerful than the next and halo/gears/forza aren’t enough to bring in new customers.
Most games do not resonate with me to make me feel like I want to complete them. Until Dawn was an exception because I connected with the characters due to character development via learning their personalities and good plot. I hope more games are made with this in mind.

As long as it’s more powerful than ps4pto I’m happy. The pto takes time off when navigating between games and the menus. Not to mention the random os blue screen reboots when having too deep of a store breadcrumb trail.

It seems like Microsoft still hasn’t learned that technology doesn’t sell products, utility and real world products (games) do. No one outside of Xbox fanboys care if Xbox is more / less powerful than PlayStation. That won’t increase your userbase. Xbox is the epitome of a privileged system. So many times it has failed but because it’s an American company it gets an unlimited amount of mulligans when it comes to the media. It’s really disgusting when you think about it.
All PS4 exclusives. You’re thinking too 1 dimensional. This is not only about the “powa” of the console. As a company when you create a product, any product, you should have a solid use case for that product. This is the core reason for exclusives, so that the consumer sees a reason to buy your product over the competition. What MS is essentially doing is creating a refresh, And should basically be named the “Xbox one x two”.
