It was very disappointing - I was looking forward to teaming up online. The Monster Hunter experience has always been better with friends.
Sadly in the West, players are few and far between but at least we could resort to ad-hoc party for PSP and had online for Wii.
I can only assume it was left out to tempt 3DS gamers into buying a Wii U (MF has always been a system seller). Hopefully Capcom will patch it soon.
Heroes of Ruin has a really good online mechanic, with drop-in/out and voice chat functionality.
I was disappointed by the lack of online suppor for MH3U, but I'm still pumping hours into that title.
Out of interest, what is the fully fledged MMO you mention for the Vita?
PSN is the only place this game hasn't permeated.
Would love to have it on the Vita.
I'd reather they just release a Netflix app.
I still play this on my 3DS. It's surprisingly compelling. Perfect hangover gaming for a lazy Sunday afternoon, akin to mining in Eve Online or farming in Minecraft.
I'm surprise nobody's modded it for zombie survival yet.
I think he was just following in the footsteps of previous developers who’ve leveraged a huge Twitter following to garner mountains of cash without actually risking anything themselves.
Rather than spending time making a game then releasing it free, then developing a paid version with regular updates, all the while building a community, they just reach out to Twitter and say, “I’ve kinda got an idea to do something cool, can I have a million dollars?”
+Me
Highly recommend this game to any Vita owners; runs really well and provides just the right amount of nostalgia for old-timers like me without overdoing it on the difficulty curve.
I'm revisiting the original; still holds up after 15 years. Awesome game.
Runs better on my netbook than it ever did on my '98 gaming rig.
I’ve also been playing since the early days; the concept of this cross platform interactivity is fascinating. Every item in Dust 514 is consumable. ie. everything in the game was crafted by EVE pilots.
An EVE Online (PC) player will take his starship out to a remote asteroid belt and spend hours mining precious minerals. They will then take the ore to a conversion centre and manufacture a job lot of tanks/jeeps/weaponry.
These items finds their way into...
I’ve listened to podcasts from reputable sites in the past and heard staffers gushing over fantastical PR events they’ve attended for the launch of a particular IP. Lo and behold, when I come across their review a few weeks later, it’s just an extension of the developer’s propaganda.
Another pitfall is journalists producing flame bait reviews just to garner massive amounts of traffic. Some are so successful that they become viral immediately. They then either retract the o...
+1 for Zelda: OoT, RE: Revelations, and Heroes of Ruin. The system has built up such a great back catalogue in the last two years.
I'm now seriously stoked for Monster Hunter Ultimate dropping later this month. Also Contemplating buying a Wii U for the cross play capabilities.
That was the tagline for my Sound Shapes review, which I never finished.
Great review; thanks for sharing – just to point out though, this title features cross play and cloud saving, so you only need to buy it once to enjoy it on both systems.
I wasted many a lunch hour testing ideas on the Vita, then fleshing them out back home on the PS3.
You’re right, though – the community levels give the title almost unlimited replay value. Sadly for me,...
We found ourselves in a grassy clearing one bright mid-morning; strangers in a foreign land. I was a man of the world, a seasoned traveller, well-versed in wilderness survival. She was new to this life, wandering around with wild eyed curiosity, and I was grateful she was with me. I led her to a nearby forest and wasted no time displaying my alpha male qualities, relentlessly punching down trees with my bare hands.
With a nice stack of logs under our arms, we retreated to t...
Minecraft XBLA ftw!!
It's all about the co-op, and should be as stress free as possible.
Minecraft XBLA ftw
Building a PC was a high point of 2012 for me.
There's no real need to pirate these days; there is so much free premium content available, a PC gamer can never be bored.
Mojang are ahead of the curve.
What publishers don't realise is that one torrented film/song/game does not always equal one lost sale.
I love the idea of being able to build a small community of survivors, nurture them, protect them, then deal with the consequences of their loss. This will be the closest gamers get to a full on Walking Dead experience. Each of us will have our own unique little band of survivors to stress over.
(Takes me back to how I felt the first time I lost Jools and Jops in Cannon Fodder on the Amiga)
Some good points here; thanks for sharing.
I would urge you to dive a little deeper into the new controllers and Kinect features. I actually think that the ‘dynamic impulse triggers’ coupled with the TrackIR capabilities of the new Kinect could add a whole new layer of immersion to console gaming.
I’m drafting up my thoughts on the reveal and will post later. (“,)
