Linearity is something I’ve began to crave in recent months; I just want a developer to tell me a story and tell it well. Take me on a journey and let me see the start, middle and end.
Lately, there’s been an overemphasis on procedural generation, perma-death and survival/crafting mechanics – along with inevitable zombie hordes – that most indie releases are starting to taste like beans.
This, however, seems refreshing in its traditionalism.
Indie Gaming is going from strength to strength this generation.
Playstation Now?
Excellent news; long overdue in my opinion.
The DQ franchise has always been well received in the West; I’m surprised they haven't localised it sooner.
I'm still patiently waiting for a Rockstar release on Vita/3DS.
Chinatown Wars was so addictive, imagine what they could do with current gen handhelds.

Shattered Memories was one of my favourite Wii titles; best enjoyed with the lights off.
It offered a genuinely spooky experience, especially listening to the voicemails piped through the wiimote speaker which acted as your ingame cellphone.
I’m not sure whether it could be called a renaissance, but the late 80s in the UK springs to mind as a particular time of enlightenment. It was the era of the ‘bedroom coder’ and that wonderful crossover between old and new tech.
Because platforms like the ZX Spectrum and C64 were so open, enthusiasts could share their creations in in so many ways; passing homebrew mixtapes to each other; hand typing BASIC programs from print media; there were even some coders who would broad...
Nice blog; thanks for sharing.
I still have mixed feelings about crowd-funding. The excitement of kick starting a brilliant idea has been soured too often by poor implementation and lack of follow through. There’s also the acerbic sense of entitlement metered out by disgruntled backers when things don’t go exactly to plan. I would imagine it’s probably just as stressful having to answer to thousands of anonymous backers as to a board of producers.

That means Nintendo will be THE ONLY platform without Minecraft. Could work really great having your inventory on the Wii U Gamepad.
tbh, I haven't actually tried 1.7 yet.
I do have a gaming rig plugged into my living room TV, but the wireless keyboard/mouse combo isn’t very comfortable. I’d need to buy a wired controller, right?
I spend more time with Minecraft 360 than I do with the PC version these days. It’s had some major overhauls during the past 12 months. It’ll always be one step behind PC, but for me the controller/couch setup works so much better.
Can't wait to experience it on Vita
Thanks Coolbeans,
I certainly need better gear for the vids. (",)
I was just using my laptop mic.
I'd always rather read a review than watch one.
Heads-up guys: I recently got hold of a capture card and am toying with the concept of 60-Second Video Reviews (you know, for the tl:dr generation)
Flashback 2013 is my first effort; I have a lot to learn - feedback is appreciated.
I was afraid of this when I heard that the gaming press hadn't been sent review copies.
These guys know their onions.
