I think people forget that the rage is not directed just at the ending, but at the broken promises and hype fed to gamers including many different endings influenced by the player's actions throughout the series.
There's a huge thread right on Bioware's forum listing all of the developers' statement about the game. I personally wouldn't return the game, but after reading that list I definitely understand the false advertising claims and rage.

Uncharted game burst with those fun qualities as much as an Indiana Jones movie
And MGS3's flower patch fight and outcome, and MGS4's scenes building towards the end are pretty sad
SotC when you find out what you're really up to is sad.
And heck Demons Souls' environments alone can leave you feeling desolate, hopeless, and alone

And there would be residents in there with no relation to quests. Some are they to speak with adding a bit of flavor to the story or environment.

Frankly wish more media members and gamers were as well-rounded and acknowledged other systems' great games and benefits.
We all may have our preference. I'm a PS3 fan, but I'm glad I have a 360 also because they are some gems.
