Hello Games got one thing right at least. It let other developers know that lying to your clients is bad.

And in about two to five years, when it does finally come out for PC, it'll be the year of the personal computer. Between the two consoles FFXV is coming out for this year, PS4 clearly won out.

Dammit, I love trains. Second half confirmed for comfy half.

The year of the Playstation.

The title should be "Premature Announcements Are Not a Good Thing". When you spend two paragraphs disproving your own title, then it's a bad title.

Tabata never implied that the open world format was going away, only that the story was going to become linear as it reached its climax. The only people who have said the open world was getting taken out halfway with any certainty was Kotaku, and you should know better than to trust Kotaku.

All stories come to an end, usually a single end. Sometimes you get lucky and get around five, like Witcher.
From the sound of things it could be taken two ways: 1.) The narrative sucks you out of the open world format entirely and it turns into something similar to Uncharted until the ending, which, according to what we know about optional endgame material, would logically have to put you back in the open world. 2.) The narrative starts off with branching story missions that event...

Is there some set date I missed that confirmed that PS4 Neo was even releasing this year? We haven't even seen images of the console itself, and the final specs haven't even been released.

Agreed. Story linearity wasn't XIII's problem. Applying that linearity to the map designs was. I've seen actual dungeons in XV, and if actual dungeons remain in the second half of the game, and/or you can run around in the open world postgame, this'll work.

People playing for the story won't care, and people playing for the sandbox won't care about the story anyway

For the middle ground, there are optional post-game bosses, which means that the open world may end up making a return after the main story is finished. In fact, based on Tabata's use of the term "main route" on the second half, I'm not sure if he's even talking about the level design or open world, but rather on the narrative linearit...

@Koor I feel the "closed bridge" is a clumsy step in the right direction. Sure it was unrealistic, but it ultimately made the games better in the long run, and let you anticipate what was to come.

Removing that, or not coming up with a more creative alternative, made GTAV's small map feel that much smaller, though I will say that other factors may have also played a part there. Felt like there were fewer sidequests as well for example.

I'm having a hard time believing that the Neo is releasing so incredibly soon considering we don't even have a picture of it, and that it would have to release within a month of this slim version.

Any credence to this claim, or is everybody just jumping the gun here? Loads of people seem convinced that the Neo'll be out by November, and I'm not seeing anything but speculation on that view.

Considering it's your job, yes. If a game has an ending, get to it and then submit your review.

That's the very definition of Deadly Premonition.

FF9 still has the best opening in the franchise. They could've messed the entire Alexandria kidnapping up in so many ways the way they were juggling characters and events, but it was airtight from beginning to end.

I'm guessing he was just bad at games in general. If Platinum and the hands on Titan demos are to be a template for judgement, good timing is crucial in this system and the Xbox demonstrator didn't have that. He just fell down over and over. It was embarrassing.
Letting the audience play the titan demo itself was a good move on Square's part.

I'm not seeing the voice acting as exceptionally bad, myself. But even if I did, I'd consider it a nonissue since there's an option to switch to Japanese. It's definitely much better than FFXII's which sounded like it was recorded in a bathroom. Just listen to Vaan's voice; it's grating.
