.
losing the ability to play future games seems like it was losing a feature or does that not count either as it is a service as well?
Commodore is 100% correct... it really was not optional.
To not update was to hurt the primary function of the system
To update was to hurt the secondary function...
It's primarily a game system yes - but it was also a usable render farm computer on which people could raytrace very fast in a home environment when used in clusters of 3 or more.

read it... and the comments on Gamasutra. It's insightful and well worth the time
the reason is... it really is not more difficult to program for (ask most game developers) just different from the base mindset. Sure if I approach it from a PC centric viewpoint it is difficult but if you approach it from the big iron side of things it's actually quite simple.
personal aside : I Think many of the points in this article are valid but I also think there is a valid argument for voice chat
As for the report - I really think this aside should be in the section because while I am posting it I am definitely not in agreement with it which as the person putting it up for publishing it looks like I am. (did that sound weird or what)
fairly certain from my perspective that Gears is partially Microsoft funded and thus won't be coming to the PS3.
TOSE

Paon
you'll never see them credited but they make many of the games credited to other companies.
SSF4? FF? Donkey Kong? etc .... all by these guys
wrong target - your argument is fallacious in that it is not related to being unhappy with a purchase it is being unhappy with features being removed...
"I'll remove the heater from the car you bought 2 years ago because you live in Florida and will never drive where it is cold even though it was in the features I promised"
vs
"My car has a hideous colour so I will sue."
1) TOS retroactive changes do not apply to time of purchase (different warrenty for a new car then one that was bought 3 years ago)
2) yes this sucked
3) people who use PS3s in clusters do play games on them - you really must not know how people work in universities and computer labs. Also they already had a problem with expanding the size of their clusters with the removal of the feature from the new systems. To buy an extra 1000 + PS3 that had the feature is now much harder ...
and yet 1% did use it - and used it well. Just because you don't use a feature does not mean it is not valued.
do you use every feature of your PC? I doubt it.. but if a manufacture arbitrarily removed a feature that 1% such as a scsi port that was active already on your motherboard after your owned it would that be wrong? According to you it would not be.
if you disagree please post why :)
2.5x - 3x the height of the screen to where you sit is considered the sweet spot by the ISF. that is if you have a 32" screen the screen height is ~ 15" or so... that means you sit back from it ~ 37" - 40" for best viewing... most people sit at the old range which was 5 to 7x the height of the tv (SD and ED)... if you do this you loss much of the benefit of HD resolutions.
at these ranges you should not see the dots making up the image and should with goo...
I just wish we could turn off Gamer Score or Trophies... the I have a bigger **** then you aspect is just plainly stupid.
true and false... have you ever meet a university student who would not play a game on a system if it was at all possible?
the bigger issue is how to expand your supercomputer structure now that you can no longer buy systems that support Linux. If you had a 500 node system that is what you are left with now.
this has been stated again and again at GDC but most people seem to miss it.
"Ham also feels the pain, but has come to believe that it’s essential as the PS3 is leading the way to the future of game development. “There’s been a learning curve, but we feel it’s worth it in the end,” he said. “Multi-core development is the future. It’s not impossible to imagine PCs with 24 cores in them within the next few years, so we figure, why not get going with it now?”"

Amazingly enough the Socom Devs said that those who use the move controller over the normal one tended to dominate the matchs they were in. (faster even then a mouse+key combo internally)
Hubris: overbearing pride or presumption
because it is directly related
the hz is the refresh rate of the screen per second and the fps is the number of images possible in a second
thus HZ is the upper limit on the number of fps
thus:
Television with a 60hz refresh rate represents complete reconstruction of the screen image 60 times every second. As a result, this also means that each video frame (in a 30 frame per second signal) is repeated twice every 60th of a second.
If you have...
Is car damage really a basic???? I mean the franchise has made it this far without it.
That said It is mostly definitely implemented and the driver AI is positively vicious at higher levels.
