I know it's hard for people like you to understand, but I'll try to explain it for you. You own the device, be it a PS3, 360, Wii, IPhone/ITouch/IPad, Sony, MS, Nintendo, Apple own the code that operates those devices. Putting entirely your own code into those devices and removing the original code from those devices is completely legal. Altering the original code, which is protected by copyright laws just like other software, is not legal. The fact remains that for all the nobility t...
And what it boils down to is assholes who feel they have the right to misuse their property simply because it is their property. If these "security researchers" (talk about euphemistic terms) had simply tried to make the PS3 run code of their own, Sony would have no recourse. The fact that they modify Sony's code in order to keep the original functionality of the PS3 plus enable piracy, which, let's be honest, is the only thing so far that this homebrew has lead to besides c...
I think Sony's going after him because he released the keys to the public because they're suing him.
Yet what people don't realize is why LBP has floaty controls. It's because of the level creation. The reason why other platformers have pixel perfect controls is because the levels are designed by professionals who take months, if not years to perfect the levels in their games. The average level creator in the LBP community spends a few hours on their levels. Having pixel perfect controls in LBP would render almost all of the user created levels unplayable because of poor design. The ...
If you couldn't see that one coming, you need to open your eyes.
You are incorrect.
You own the hardware. However, because consoles are closed systems, the software used to operate the console belongs to the console manufacturer. It would be perfectly legal to take a PS3 or 360 and strip it down and get it to run code of your own creation, assuming you kept that information to yourself. The reason hackers get in trouble is because they want to run their own code plus retain the original functionality which is operated by code owned by some...
No. Piracy. That's the only reason.
As I understand it, the patents Microsoft has are for an integrated service that provides certain features and functionality. Otherwise, why would Sony not implement the things that people have been asking for rather than leave it to the developers? Like you said, Sony isn't stupid. They know people want these things and it cannot be so hard to implement these things, even if they had to completely re-code PSN.
Did you ever stop to think that there's reason that those features aren't implemented yet, other than Sony not listening to its fans? The biggest hurdle is Live, if Sony isn't careful, Microsoft would be able to sue for patent infringement which is why features like game invites and custom soundtracks are handled by the individual developers versus a unified system which Microsoft has a patent on. Possibly if a custom firmware came out that had all the features that you want, Sony...
@ Darkpower,
Are you fucking serious? Sony has been trying to kill "Homebrew" on PSP because of the rampant piracy that has destroyed game sales on the device. That's why there are 50 million PSPs in the wild and even big games sell horribly. This is why Sony doesn't want to allow any modification to their hardware, they've already had one platform ruined by hacking.
People bitch about piracy because it screws things up for everyone who ...
This video was anal sex: a dick fucking an asshole. I'll let you decide who was who.
The only problem with your logic is that it ignores the Wii audience which is much larger than the Kinect audience. Move should allow developers to create HD versions of Wii games or Wii-like games on the PS3. The same cannot be done on the 360, or at least not as easily.By giving developers an easy way to increase their prospective returns, I would expect more and more developers to take advantage of this.
EDIT: With the level of shovelware out there, you really think no on...
She didn't log in naked, she used video chat naked and played the game naked. Those are different than trying to get Kinect to recognize you.
You take this shit way too seriously. I was merely making a joke and you got all, "Nuh-uh! Kinect is not 32X!!" Relax, it's a joke. Just because you believe that Kinect is the second coming, it doesn't mean anyone else will. Kinect will probably sell reasonably well; anything will if you throw enough marketing behind it. However I think it will fall into the general motion control pitfall of being a novelty and once the novelty wears off, it will just sit there like the Wii ...
No. He means it's like the 32X. And we all know how that one turned out.
Yes, let the democrats keep control so the nanny state can grow ever larger and more powerful. Remember, Social Security isn't a flawed program that's unsustainable and led the country into it's current sense of entitlement.
That law would be retarded. There is no point in making it legal for minors to play violent games but not buy them. For example, anything that it is illegal for children to buy, it's also illegal to give them, like alcohol, tobacco products and firearms. Furthermore, other forms of media are allowed to self-regulate without government interference.
Old news.
This post is a circle jerk without the crackers.
Slippery slope arguments are bullshit. And none of those is even remotely the same as what Geohot and Failoverflow have done. What they did was alter Sony's copyrighted code for personal gain. Last time I checked, violating copyrights is still frowned upon by the courts. Altering someone else's code to do things that weren't intended by the copyright owner is not legal.
EDIT: I think the only reason the courts allowed that with the Apple case was that it didn'...
