True about those launch games. But at launch there was a much greater likelihood that someone who really wanted to start Spiderman: MM might not be able to get a PS5 right at launch but would get one within a few months. Now 11 million of the most hardcore playstation fans have PS5s, and there are six months for that number to get closer to 17 million by the time horizon launches (or more if supply issues get resolved). HZD sold 7.5 million over its first year. Even assuming a faster sales pa...

So like the PS2 game "Oni" that Bungie made in 2001?

Fortunately the vast majority of people buying this game will be getting it on PS5 to begin with, so this really only affects people who are planning to buy a PS5 after Horizon launches but before they are done with the game on PS4. It doesn't seem like the smartest move, but it's different situation than something like Ghost of Tsushima where everyone who owned the game until a few weeks ago owned the PS4 version.

Lol beyond anything else hopefully they release or announce a release of the firmware update with internal SSD support for non-beta people.

I am hoping they make the SSD expansion available to everyone soon. I didn't get in the firmware beta, and although I have an external HDD, I'd like to keep that primarily for PS4 games and put PS5 games on the extra SSD. That feature has been out in beta for awhile so it will hopefully launch for everyone soon.

Nice. I'm just hoping they put the Hitman 2 expansion on sale again soon. Apparently the levels are pretty good, but I'm not paying $40 for two maps.

Ah, the classic "Japanese games that have no legacy on Xbox must sell just as well there" assumption. Always wrong, but it never goes away.

This must be a devastating blow, since we know from the "install base" logic that these earlier gen versions must have been the far more popular versions of the game, since there were far more of these consoles in people's homes than PS4s or XONEs when this game launched in 2015.

Not if the game is also on PS4.

I was excited for Back 4 Blood until I played the beta...oof. Fortunately L4D2 is as good as ever.

Imagine getting upset that you got something for free because you wish you would have gotten more stuff for free.

This.

Horizon should make it since that date is already the result of delays, but some others will probably get moved.

Though it isn't true of this author since he looks back fondly at the Wii (lol), for most people the issue is that they compare every new game to the very best games from whatever era they are nostalgic about. When people compare everything to their 3-5 favorite games from a past era, they don't think about the fact that many of the games that came out during that time were duds. I mean, I love PS1, but in terms of overall quality of games from that era, MGS1 is the exception, rather ...

Another cross-gen 2022 game, lame.

Same, glad I held off from going back. I was getting worried this one might not get a patch.

The difference between Halo and Far Cry is much smaller than it used to be. Unfortunately there isn't super accurate overall sales data for either game, but Far Cry 5's first week sales were ~$310 million while Halo 5's were ~$400 million. Obviously Halo is still bigger, but the difference is much smaller than it would have been between Halo 3 and Far Cry 2 (using those two because they launched in same era).

People still casually talk about Halo as this dominan...

It probably shouldn't start much higher than that.

So you mean the resolution limitations of backwards compatibility on the new consoles that apply to all old titles also apply to this title? I wouldn't have suspected this, so I'm glad you pointed it out.

Regardless of the reason they did this, it certainly was one of the things that hurt the device badly. People forget, but when Sony announced Vita's price at $249 after all the Sony naysayers (who were a dime a dozen in the PS3 era) had predicted it would be much higher, there was a lot of positive buzz about Vita. Then when they announced the memory card situation (which functionally jacked up the prices), that deflated much of the hype. Vita launch was also around the time Nintendo turn...
