Not my type of game, but you know it's good when even before official launch other devs and journalists start a narrative about how other games can't be judged against it because it was made under "very specific circumstances."
Lol @Obscure_Observer so much for Spider-Man 2 flopping, huh?
No surprise. People always wildly overestimate how well games sold before about 2010. People also have a habit of lumping all Nintendo first party games together and assuming that because 3D Mario, Smash, and Mario Kart games sell like crazy, Metroid and Donkey Kong must also sell like that. It's only really with the last few games that Zelda has jumped up into that higher Nintendo sales echelon.
It's really telling about people's memories and supposed commitments to "not buy COD" anymore that they are all saying a bad campaign is going to seriously hurt the franchise. Black Ops 4 in 2018 didn't have a true campaign at all yet here we are.
Better start preparing whatever trench you are going to fall back to when we get sales numbers announced. "It isn't selling as fast as Elden Ring" sounds like a good spot for you, why don't you think about using that?
It's wild that countries can just destroy the value of their currencies but when companies raise their prices to reflect that devaluation, it's the companies who are at fault, not the governments.
"That welfare you might get early on will bite you in the ass in the future if you ever try to sell a game separately from a subscription. Because consumers will expect your future games given for a small fee than paying for it from then on."
This is so obvious, I don't see how people don't intuitively get it. I'll acknowledge that in very rare cases, giving something away on a subscription can kickstart later sales and success. Rocket League launching...
This was definitely true of Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn as well. She's supposed to be part of a primitive hunter-gatherer tribe (or at least, an outcast trying desperately to get into the tribe), yet she just takes everything in stride when she is exposed to science, technology, and history that completely contradict everything she grew up thinking. In her situation I guess it could be somewhat explained by her possession of a piece of advanced technology from a young age, but it still felt...
The next time you complain about how "everything is a crossover now," just remember that you also said this.
I never understand this issue when we are talking about a single game that takes a manageable time to play and is available on modern platforms. Don't get me wrong, I get the "do I need to play the prior games" question when the seventh game in a long running series gets announced and the prior titles take 30+ hours each and are not all easily accessible. But in this case, just play the first one this weekend.
Ironically, the people who advocate using the modern morals of white English-speaking Americans to "fix" Spanish are the same ones who constantly complain about cultural appropriation or cultural imperialism.
Using the fact that devs keep signing deals for Gamepass as evidence that they see Gamepass as good is like citing the fact that drug addicts keep buying drugs as evidence that they see drugs as good.
@MrNinosan
Wouldn't surprise me. I'll take your word for it. That just supports my additional analysis that Starfield isn't really pushing mainstream consumers (who don't already have an Xbox or capable PC) to go out and buy one just for this game.
Yeah. That was a little surprising. Probably some of the people buying Xboxs for Starfield did so in August. Also, while it's clearly a huge success, it doesn't feel like Starfield captured the mainstream audience they were hoping it would based on the mainstream success of Skyrim, and to a lesser extent Fallout 4.
Back when platforms paying for years of early access to DLC was still cool!
Yeah I heard a lot about this before I played, and then it almost never affected me when I played the game (the few times it did were with bird form Freya).
Honestly it makes me wonder if a bunch of people are just really terrible at puzzles and took forever to do them and got hints. It's either that or they patched the game to slow down the hints (I played about 5 months after launch).
Bragging about playing Redfall is one of the bigger self-owns I've seen in awhile. It's like a PS3 fanboy bragging about Haze.
"Look at the poor sales for WW2, Vanguard, BO4, Cold War & Infinite Warfare."
The problem with that is that when you point to "poor sales" for COD titles, it is only relative to the other titles in the franchise. Every single one of the games you mentioned, except Black Ops 4, was the top selling game in the US in the year it released. And the only reason BO4 was second was because it came out in 2018, the same year as Red Dead Redemption 2.
This was a weird one. While it had some of the cheesiness you had to expect from licensed games of that era, in some respects it was also far deeper than a lot of contemporary PS1 games. It had a respectable dialogue system (which includes the ability to use Jedi mind tricks) and some pretty fun levels. The controls and perspective would feel horrible to modern gamers though.
The people who say "mid" now are the same people who said "meh" a few years ago. Inevitably, it's more informative about the person saying it than the thing they are describing.
