I don't think this is what you are saying exactly, but if they came out a model for the standard price (we'll say $450 for the sake of argument, though that may be optimistic), I would absolutely pay $100 more for an "enthusiast" version that included PS3 hardware so it could play those games. As others have pointed out, PS3 is notoriously hard to emulate, so I can't fault them on not having an emulator.

PS4 BC is going to work as we know (I firmly be...

It also doesn't really make sense because there's a pretty great chance that most of the 360 games he's playing are playable on XONE, and in several cases they probably play better via BC (not to mention Master Chief Collection if he's still playing Halo games).

Now that my Gamepass has lapsed, I don't have anything on my XONE except 360 games. To be fair, I never owned a 360 though, so there's that.

Lol Minute Man 721 comes in, as if on cue, with a "Gamecubes struck by lightning" story. Which as I said, that's why you don't attribute significant 360 sales to RROD, because someone will always have some "but my PS2 broke after my brother threw it down the stairs, and I had to buy a new one" story. Looks like darthv72 had some consoles destroyed by lightning as well.

No one can really account for how much a failure rate contributes to any conso...

I mean, the whole reason to compare these numbers is that it is interesting, and that wouldn't be.

1. I agree with you. Despite RROD being a big deal for a few years, I never cite it as a significant portion of its overall sales. As you say, people often got replacement consoles free or got a refurbished one. Also, it's not like everyone bought multiple 360s; some got fed up after RROD and switched to PS3. So if I start factoring that in how it caused people to buy additional 360s, I also have to factor in how it benefitted PS3. It's easier just to ign...

I don't actually think XONE was a colossal failure- MS has one real market they are a significant player in, they sabotaged their own launch, and they're still going to sell 60ish million. 360 was artificially boosted by Sony's many mistakes, having a year head start, and having the games media basically advertising for them for the first few years of the generation.

However, your comparisons don't benefit you. SNES came out at a time the industry was smalle...

Lol but now used and refurbished PS4s are selling above retail price, with Pros fetching almost $500 on eBay (which to be fair, is happening with all consoles at the moment).

Generally I agree with you though, PS3 got more frequent and more definitive price cuts. Even when Sony has good deals on PS4, it's usually a bundle deal, and whenever it ends or goes out of stock, the console itself on Amazon etc will sometimes cost more than the bundle did. I certainly would not ...

Hopefully by the time PS5 comes out, we'll have more information on how AMD "Smartshift" works (which is what Sony is using in PS5. It's all well and good to hear about it in theory, but I'd much rather see how it is actually working in PCs that use the tech. So far I'm only aware of one: a new version of the Dell G5 laptop that just came out last month.

Fair enough, but I'd put you in a different category based on your answer compared to a lot of the people I see expressing similar opinions. It's more that you happen to play games later and there happens to be a new generation starting this fall. It's not as if you're going to blast through those games in the first few weeks after PS5 launches, it's just that that practically when you get to them PS5 will be out. I had a similar thing with PS3 (I got a launch version with...

This is so weird. We don't even know what degree of boost these games will get via PS5 BC, if any. It very well might be like playing them on a slightly more stable PS4 Pro.

You're far from the only one expressing this sentiment, but it still makes no sense to me why you'd sit on so many great titles to wait for a new machine that may very well play them in exactly the same way as the current one. I know Cyberpunk is getting a legitimate next gen version, but no...

Lol in the 2006-2008 era, "journalists" from major sites would openly rip on PS3, compare it to Dreamcast, and talk about how they weren't going to buy one, despite it being their jobs to play a variety of games, including on PS3. Not to mention repeatedly feeding stories about "insider" tips that MGS4 was going to be on 360.

Of course now all of these places are too professional for consoles wars.

Base PS4. Obviously that's less impressive, but it makes the information provided more useful, since far more people own the base system.

Cyberpunk is still coming. Not saying it will be more impressive than TLOU:2, but I don't think we can make a final pronouncement until both are out. And I'll just note Ghost of Tsushima so no one feels the need to say I forgot it.

Exactly, from the outside, what is the difference?

2065d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

Practically speaking, what is the difference between them delaying because they actually don't want to distract from the protests or them delaying because they don't want to risk bad press by distracting from the protests? In either instance, they are going to act like their motivation is ideological rather than financial, but from a cause and effect perspective, the situation is the same either way.

Avoiding bad press. Sony wants to have this event and have press talking about how awesome the PS5 is, not writing articles about how "out of touch" Sony is. You have to imagine some of the trash gaming blogs were probably already drafting hit pieces on this very subject to publish at the end of the week.

I understand why they did it. Even if they don't truly care ideologically, you know that having a PS5 event this week could easily have resulted in a bunch of terrible articles from sites like Kotaku and Polygon with titles like "When America is Burning and Our Racist-in-Chief is hiding in his bunker, Sony Announces New Toy For White Manbabies."

Yeah it's always funny to see people still argue that they buy physical to save hdd space when that hasn't been applicable this gen (except on Switch).

Also you are right that the notion of having the disc so you have the game is flawed. If in ten years they take Cyberpunk 2077 down from digital stores, and you still have a physical copy of the game, yes you can install something, but without patches, etc, it is not going to be the game you remembered playing. In ma...
