Now it's ray tracing. Ray tracing has been talked about for a long time of course, and is already used on PC, but Phil Spencer started talking about it a few months ago, so now it is the new buzzword.
Well I didn't expect this today, but I'm not complaining.
As if having Polygon articles on here isn't annoying enough, now we get their parent site too. At least they aren't trying to talk about Doom, haha.
They forgot to say "scalability."
Although it's actually a pretty good idea to do just that IF you can get out early on new systems. Right now indies regularly get lost on PS4/XONE because there are so many games out there. But if an indie studio released a next gen only game right around launch when the most enthusiastic people are looking for content actually optimized for those systems, they could really get attention in a way they won't at any other time.
There can't be a single person alive with even basic knowledge of the games industry who thinks this is going to work to sustain a game. This is an exotically terrible idea.
I know a lot of people on here are too cool to like Skyrim, and many others have just soured on Bethesda generally, but I think anyone can recognize how insane it is to create one of the most successful games of all time, then take over a decade to follow up on it, regardless of how many rereleases they have done. Probably one of the only relevant comparisons is Valve failing to make Half Life 3 (and Half Life 2's sales are probably significantly less than Skyrim's sales).
If it comes out at $400 and PS5 is $500, that's going to be a real issue for Sony (one they'll recover from like they did with PS3).
However, with the very solid rumors that MS is doing a budget version of the console (Lockhart/Series S), I can't see X being $400. If your high end console isn't going to be at least $500, it seems like almost a waste of effort to have a lower end model at $300ish.
I like that you specifically picked an example of a game (The Last of Us) that wasn't released as a cross buy title across multiple systems, but rather was made first on PS3 then remastered for the PS4. It's almost suspiciously like you were trying to be wrong. Hmmm.
Haha since when has a company repeatedly explaining what something is going to be mattered? Square explained from announcement to launch that FF7 remake was going to be released in a more episodic format, but a good segment of the internet still raged about how deceptive they were to release it that way.
Same thing with people ripping on Sony's PS5 GDC-style presentation.
Yeah I'm going to be happy if we get one true PS5 exclusive at launch. People seem to forget that Sony will release 1st party games on old systems after new ones launch (see for example: God of War 2, Gran Turismo 6).
While this was certainly a missed opportunity, I'm not expecting PlayStation 5's gameplay reveal to be much stronger. It will inevitably include a bunch of cross gen third party games as well. If we're lucky we'll get one big first party exclusive on PS5 at launch that isn't cross gen. And I don't know who will be making it. Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch still have PS4 games coming out this year. Insomniac is working on Spider Man sequel, which will probably be 2021 at ...

I think when evaluating statements like the above, you have to factor in that most people have short memories, and when they talk about Zelda sales, they are likely thinking primarily of BOTW. BOTW sales are really close with Odyssey and Smash.
People are not thinking about the fact that Skyward Sword only sold a few million despite one of the largest install bases ever.
You do realize that only a tiny fraction of PlayStation owners would even recognize the name Neil Druckmann? The stuff we get all worked up about on here is meaningless to the vast majority of people.
It's pretty difficult to underestimate how informed the typical game purchaser is; probably the only "industry scandal" that my casual friends heard about was the battlefront 2 microtransactions issue, and that required months and months of persistent complainin...
It's a good concept, but the controls are clunky, and there are an unnecessary number of different experience/currency systems you accumulate to upgrade in different ways.
Well, to be fair, it is a modern invention in terms of being "gay" as a defining status and lifestyle. But you are correct that people in many different past cultures and civilizations engaged in both homosexual and heterosexual activity. So games depicting that would be accurate, whereas depicting same-sex marriage within a game about ancient cultures would be inaccurate. Not that they really need to go for accuracy.
People are asking why they are pushing this, b...
This is what I want to put to the test. I'm sure a handful of people would stick to this, but most wouldn't for a game this big. Eventually this test will occur, and I can't wait.
Yep. This also would have been a great one to force a lot of the backwards "I need discs" people to just buy the game digitally. A lot of them say they would never buy a digital game, but if it came down to missing the last of us 2 or waiting for it, I doubt they would have.
I thought so for sure! A Gears game on PC before Xbox? Hard to believe, regardless of genre.
This gives a a distinct "taking full advantage of the hardware" vibe that has been missing some this gen. Don't get me wrong, there have been many great games, I just feel like games progressed more from the beginning of the PS3 gen to the end, than what has happened this gen.
That could just be because it was easier to develop on the PS4 from the beginning, so there wasn't as apparent of a shift over the years. Still, this is exciting to see. Despite bein...
