This almost just makes me wish we'd stick with 1080p another gen so that people would actually hit 60 fps. It seems like every gen we move to the resolution standard where many devs can only maintain 30fps.

To be fair I think since the Unreal 5 demo and PS5 reveal the "lolSonySux" contingent has sort of realized the direction things are heading, and the momentum they thought they had after the mediocre Mark Cerny presentation early in the year is pretty much gone. I think the typical Xbox-focused fan actually just doesn't care what the "other side" is doing except to the extent it keeps MS from getting lazy.

Yeah, despite all the complaining about games being in 900p native sometimes this gen, I'm sure there are plenty of XONE and PS4s hooked up to 720p sets.

Yeah, there's no way I'm buying series X, but if this runs games well at 1080p and costs under $300, I'd think about it maybe a year after PS5. They'll need better exclusives than this gen, but considering their studio purchases that shouldn't be a problem.

People are saying that because of the architecture, it will actually outperform X1X. This would be an instance where looking only at TFs is misleading.

@FlavorLav01

Some people are only going to save for one electronics purchase at a time.

Some people are kids, and their parents might buy them/let them buy a console, but not necessarily a new large tv that will be in their house.

Some people don't have the space to buy a large enough tv to take advantage of 4k.

Some people don't like to buy cheaper TVs and think that if they are going to buy one at all, they ...

Of course it is. I was in high school in the heyday of Halo's popularity (if you are younger and don't know, it was much bigger then than it is now, at least culturally; COD gradually took over this spot after COD 4 in 2007, but at the time Halo was the shooter everyone talked about). I constantly bashed those games for various reasons (primarily weapon balance). However, I didn't feel the need to make up what I thought sounded like "smart" words about them.

I think this is something people are overlooking. People are talking about the cost of the drive itself, but not factoring in that Sony certainly has certainly worked out a reasonable estimate of how much more profit they'll make per year from the average PS user if that user can only buy digital (no cut to retailers, no disc printing and shipping cost, and no danger of used games). The question is how much they are willing to take an upfront hit to reap later rewards.

Yeah, people claim to want new 3D platformers like we got in the PS1/PS2 era, but then justify the hesitancy of publishers to make such games when they immediately complain about the price of any that are announced.

Why would they? Online retailers can't keep it in stock right now.

Gamers: "VR sucks, there are no good games."

Company that owns Oculus buys a great studio.

Gamers: "What? That sucks, now that studio I like is only going to make VR games!"

MS did the Spotify model with their Zune store years before Spotify was doing it. Pay a monthly fee and listen to as much as you want whenever you wanted to, and you could even download and listen to songs offline on a Zune HD (something Spotify has added for phones of course). Not to mention they had their own store where you could buy songs on the more traditional model, or as darthv72 said, you could just import your mp3 library from any other source.

But, as in almost e...

Sweet. If it turns out that TLOU2 really is almost 30 hours, I should have time to get through that, then finish one game from the backlog (probably Control), and then be ready for this.

Haha you put a lot more effort in than I did.

CDPR has enough of a reputation that they will still succeed, but I can't help but feel that they are losing some momentum by releasing a huge game on old consoles right at a time when everyone is going to be focused on two new consoles. Obviously it wouldn't stop them from selling millions of copies, but I do wonder if it will prevent them from having the launch they could have had a little bit earlier.

For what it's worth, it is probably a benefit to me, as I ...

Why would they though? Most gamers have probably never even heard of Stadia, let alone the average person who watches South Park.

This is a fair take. I think those of us who have played their games and know how fun they are are sort of "reading in" the idea that Housemarque's signature arcade style will be baked into this game. I'd certainly be far less excited based on just the trailer if I didn't know the dev behind it.

2191d ago 3 agree0 disagreeView comment

Fair enough. Either way, I plan to pick up both of them. Not just for the design either; Dishonored was one of my favorite games of the PS3 generation, and I have really enjoyed every Housemarque game I've played, especially Resogun.
