Okay I get that. Also I'm by no means a Nintendo hater - my NES, SNES and GC get plenty of playtime! I guess what I'm thinking is that it's going to be very tough for Nintendo to pry the hardcore market from Xbox and PlayStation. Does the market need another hardcore HD console? That's what comes to mind when you speak of a saturated market to me.
My question is if Nintendo couldn't beat Sony with the N64 and then with the GameCube what makes them want to fight all over again for the hardcore market?
I mean look at the success of the Wii and Nintendo's own titles. It's hard to argue with those numbers. Why not just stick with the more casual market that they've proven to dominate?
Great news! But with all these HD re-releases coming out I'm having trouble staying current. I'm still trying to finish up the Tomb Raider Trilogy. Then the Splinter Cell HD Collection hits. Let's not mention Prince of Persia HD Trilogy and then ICO/Shadow of the Colossus at some point. Too many games! November will be especially jam-packed.
Would be great to see Oblivion have trophy support but I don't think Bethesda would take the time to patch them in. Remember this 5th anniversary edition is basically a repackaging of the GOTY edition with bonus items. Plus the PS3 is Bethesda's least supported system. More than likely the 'trophies' marking on the box is from a generic template used for covers/back-covers for games just like with MGS IV great hits ed.
I'm glad to see Apple doing well and let's face it Microsoft isn't exactly facing bankruptcy. Both companies can do well and it means better products for consumers.
Personally I'm a PC user and I'm not switching to OS-X anytime soon. My laptop absolutely screams with a bright beautiful 17" screen, 8gb of RAM, a top-end mobile graphics card and Blu-ray all for about $1K. The equivalent Apple product would have cost 2x as much minimum. Apple has done a ...
I'm going to get a fair amount of disagrees for this one but every Final Fantasy made post FFIX has been progressively more terrible than the game before it.
FFX introduced the extremely linear gameplay that's the norm now. FFX-2 the same w/ JPop apparently the inspiration behind the game. FFXII introduced gambits aka auto-battles. FFXIII combined all those elements to form one shiny turd with minimal inputs from player and lackluster story.
Hopefully this pans out to be true. I'm skeptical of the 25-online maps claim. Maybe 25 w/ different configurations of the same map.
Anyway, I dedicated about 180hrs to the first Warhawk and it was my first real online-addiction for awhile. I would definitely purchase a new Warhawk game.
Loved the original that came bundled w/ my 80gb PS3. Pacific Rift is an incredible game as well. Looking forward to Evo's next MS title and a day 1 buy for me!
This has to be one of the most poorly written articles I've ever read. Absolute garbage. My 7yr old nephew writes better than the author.
Back on topic - yes, some management changes are needed at SE. The company can turn it around but needs to focus less on trying to attract a Western audience and flashy graphics and more on just making a good game with a good story too.
Just when you think Sony does something right there's a catch:
"developers are able to opt out and bar their games from using it should there be a concern"
Seriously? Why the hell would a developer want to "opt out"? I get that copy-protected saves serve a purpose even if it sucks for gamers. But cloud storage for save files takes the hacking equation out of the picture.
So in essence we're still going to be at sq...
Taking a page from Turn-10s playbook, eh Jesse?
Besides attention to his own game what can he possibly hope to accomplish by saying GT5 "is not a game"?
Peripherals is one way which console manufactuerers can recoupe some of the costs of selling hardware at a loss. I paid $599 for my PS3 in '07 and felt the cost was justified. Even at that price Sony was selling the PS3 at a loss. Extra controllers and software sales help offset that cost.
Even now with Sony making a profit on "slim" PS3 sales they're making up for losses incurred in the development and early sales of the PS3. Part of that is peripherals....
SNES on my PS3?... nah, I have my SNES for that.
"I buy all my games there."
Then you're overpaying.
DS2 was a day 1 purchase for me the moment I finished DS1.
Personally I don't like GameStop. I've purchased many a game from them but that has stopped with competition from Amazon and even Best Buy. We all know the problems with GS: fanboy employees; inflated prices; terrible trade-in value; clutter stores; used games missing boxes, manuals and covered in stickers.
On the other hand I firmly dislike the idea of a Digital Download only future. Call me old-school, but I like owning physical copies of my games. My collection sp...
How exactly "was" the PS3 version bad? I played it on PS3 and I think that Mafia 2 was great. Better than GTAIV which was largely given fan service by so called "professional" reviewers.
Toys R Us is holding the same BOGO50 deal. Though the selection and prices are much better at Amazon.
I might pick up a few bargain games that I missed.
I completely agree. I remember spending hours upon hours flying around in my Kiowa Warrior Helo in the original Mercs calling in airstrikes on hapless DPRK troops. Pure fun.
Mercs 2 was a glitchy mess of a game. I still remember the frustration at HVTs killing themselves over and over requiring a complete restart and then trek back to the same point... only to see them shoot an RPG at their feet. Or objectives that suddenly started levitating in mid-air, again requiring a re...
Hey Todd, getting a bit ahead of yourself, don't you think? This is the same Bethesda that releases games with critical bugs/glitches? How about this wish - some beta testing for Bethesda games? I'm not talking about using your customers a guinea pigs either.
