This really shouldn't surprise people. Nintendo creates artificial shortages to drive demand for every system they release. They run their marketing and supply chain like a 17 year old kid in his first economics class.
halibut....sheeps cheese....tomatoes
I agree with what you are saying to a degree. However, your auto industry example is not accurate. An overwhelming majority of used cars are actual sold at retail...by the dealership associated with the make of the vehicle. The exception being Carmax...which is the gamestop of auto and actually has a similar reputation in the auto industry.
So comparing gaming to auto would mean that the publisher such as EA would have to buy the game and sell it back to someone else used....
I care
They are doing it for the simple fact that there is currently only a handful of UHD players coming out in the next fiscal year. If they release a bluray player for $400 like their competitors are doing it is going to limit the volume of units they can move. However, if they release a UHD play that can also play games the volume is much greater given the cost to value ratio.
It's business...even if they have a fraction of the 40MM consumers upgrade they are going to cor...

What exactly are we judging this on? Diversity in offering? Launching new gaming platforms? Exclusive offerings?
First, I think you make a valid point.
However, for every publisher that makes good on their promises there is an opportunity for a publisher to take advantage of consumers by making this a norm.
All we need to do is look at PC gaming and early access to get a taste of how this could shake out in console gaming should consumers 'just go with it.'
Also, Capcom is one of the worst offenders of over-promising and under-delivering espec...
I played the beta for a couple of hours and it's entertaining...but this game represents exactly why I have switched to supporting and playing predominately independently developed games.
Everything feels extremely bolt on...it's a compilation of features that appear in pretty much every single game in this genre. If you pay attention you can feel how little orchestration went into creating this game between the development disciplines (art style, writing etc.).
As much as I want to believe that a corporation is going to do right by my purchase...I just can't bring myself to believe that Capcom will make this game whole for no additional charge.
I understand they are saying they are going to make it whole, but we are talking about one of the most egregious DLC/micro-transaction offenders in gaming right now.
I'm going to keep my money in my pocket for a few months to see if the strategy for releasing the &qu...
Divinity Original Sin: Enhanced Edition...if we're talking about console games. Sure it launched a year ago on PC, but better than both of these games by a mile in terms of pure RPG
I'm by no means done with the game...but I am finding plenty of story on the cassette tapes. Here is how you get the story from MGS5:
1. Check that the cassette player has a power supply. If the player requires batteries, properly install the appropriate batteries into the player according to the diagram printed on the inside of the battery compartment. If the player has a power cable, make sure it is safely plugged into the wall. Connect any speakers, headphones or any o...
I couldn't agree more with this comment. I actually really like how they've integrated the story into the game via the cassette tapes.
This gets a lot of the lengthy backstory/set up elements out of the way without requiring 30-40 min cutscenes. I also like how they've broken them into smaller 2-3 min sections.
Plus you can go back and re-listen to them...which is necessary given all the different story arcs.
I dig it...because I ...

Oh well...they're much further along than you'd think...but you'll find that out tomorrow
I agree, I loved Dragon's Dogma and was super bummed to hear it was going online.
It's not that I don't like online games...I just don't have the time required to keep up with everyone else in the universe.
EDIT: Based on the comments above sounds like I also don't have time to fully read.
This sounds a lot sadder than it actually is, but will I enjoy playing this game alone?
I am not a PC gamer by any means...and own a PS4...but couldn't this be because Techland didn't optimize the game for PC, but simply ported the console version?
Could be wrong...but I think his point was more rooted in the moral dilemma associated with the decision to "take advantage" or "not to take advantage"
I guess we know which side of the Infamous spectrum you're on...either way you're screwing someone...but I guess it is better to screw one than both
New IP trying to f*&k my wallet on the first date...that's bold.
Why the disagrees? Fanboy much...go ahead and pop every system Nintendo has released into Google since the original NES and tell me this isn't either an inept supply chain or marketing tactic.
