@Pope >> "They didnt buy Lucasfilm, they leased it."
Yes the they bought all of Lucasfilm, every asset, every coke machine, lamp, mouse, everything. It is fully owned subsidiary of the Disney Corp. It includes a whole bunch more than just Star Wars. It includes ILM, their audio division, the ranch, etc... All for $4 billion and change. They did not lease anything. Disney owns it all. Including a lot of IP (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and some others)
@XXanderXX What you realize Activision's market value is several billion more than EA. Look at the numbers before you tell people incorrect information. EA is no where near as big as Activision. Unless you think over 6 billion dollars is value is chump change.
Just for some reference (market caps):
Activision/Blizzard $30.9 billion
EA $24 billion
2K $4.3 billion
Ubisoft $3.5 billion
Sony $39 billion
Microsoft $457...
@Doctor_MG Yes they did remove the port but, not the option to have a Kinect attached to the Xbox One Slim. Microsoft will give you a USB dongle (free) if you have a Kinect. Plus, that dongle actually has the extra benefit allowing you to use your Xbox One Kinect on a Windows desktop as well. So, isn't that a win-win.
Apparently all those Sony engineers need to work on acoustics of their hardware. Perhaps instead of trying to get something Apple skinny, they strive to make PS4 as quiet as the Xbox One. My PS4O (and my nephews and my neighbors) are as about as quiet as an old single prop plane. While my Xbox One is whisper quiet.
But, speaking of weight of course Sony has to make things lighter because all those girly men arms that most PS4 fan boys have means that the extra 1 1/2 poun...
You really need to look before you leap. Sony profits announced just three days ago are down 84% . Profits from PlayStation are down 20%. I wouldn't use the term hemorrhaging but, since all their profitable eggs have been in PlayStation for the past 2 years any decline in that division is not good at all for the company.
@DarXyde even if what Eidolon says is true that does not mean it is violating what Sony said would be a requirement. The 1080 version is still visually superior to the non-optimized Pro version, right?
$399 is possible if Phil and company listen to me an have 3 different SKUS.
1. Xbox Scorpio Digital $399 (no Blu-Ray playback drive none, smaller drive 500GB or 1TB drive). I know mentioning 500GB is sacrilegious at this point. However we all know adding 4TB externally is pretty easy for everyone. And if doing so allows the Scorpio reach $399 than more power to them. This could especially be a nice option for all those that think streaming 4K is the same as watching an a...
Agreed. Short term VR games lasting 2 to 3 hours is acceptable for early adopters. If a year or so from now you see the a similar trend and the price does not reflect that shorter game play you will see a push back. Or worst if in a year there still is a large percentage of games that continue to have a tech demo feel it will be problem as well. It is the Wild-West right now but, 2-4 hour of game play should never be more than a Jackson. This is especially true if the industry expects to ...
AR is different tech. That is like saying a plane is not good tech because you drive a car. Seriously, half the games we play, FPS, explain why AR is different. How often do we the play game characters using AR in their helmets not VR. The point is it AR is a different type of beast meant to do different things, it is to augment the world not make up one. HoloLens itself may not be for games anytime soon, that is not Microsoft's focus. Games just make nice tech demos. Heck maybe a s...
Minimum requirements for Oculus Rift are an i3, NVidia 960, 8gb. Not a heavy weight machine. There are AMD based machines costing $499 that are more powerful than these minimum specs.
It's not more people but, more hours are spent watching people play than the total number of hours played. I don't think that number of people watching has quite eclipsed total gamers. Although, it is growing. I guess it is a generational thing; like YouTube being more popular than TV for this generation as well. The only people I know that watch for hours (I mean hours and hours) are my nephews ages (11-16). But, to be honest how can we can look at this any different than any othe...
That is their jobs and what they get paid for to make decisions. They have to answer to a budget an expenses. You sound like Verucca Salt, "I want, I want, I want - give it to me now".
First, he didn't say there wouldn't be VR for Scorpio all he did was comment on VR that his played on several system. You guys read way too much into this or actually read only the headlines the story be dammed. Secondly, unlike Sony PSVR whatever Microsoft and it'...
@Utalkin2me "they even bought there first operating system"
So. By the way it was called QDOS (Quick and Dirty OS) and Patterson's OS was a rip off of Gary Kindall's Digital Research CP/M. It was not being used as general OS but built to test some hardware and Allen (the actual true tech brains of the two - like Wozniak at Apple) saw how it could be used and expanded. Speaking of Kindall, he in fact blew the meeting with IBM, he was too busy flying hi...
Stick with the facts, of which you have none! You don't know how powerful it is. You don't know how high the resolution is (for the TV, upscaling, and if really is only 720p screen). You don't know how long the battery lasts. You don't know what third parties are bringing to the table. And you definitely don't know it will (or like you said "is", like it really exists today) will be giving the Xbox a run for its money. The only facts we have are a silly mil...
I always find that argument not true. As a developer I have several high PC's at home and yet I primarily play on consoles as do many of my industry friends. We do it for a variety of reasons. All those reasons have been reiterated way to many times to repeat again (but most of you know why we do - probably for many of the same reasons you all do). I have both PS4 and Xbox One and although X1 is my go to console, I play my PS4 a good amount as well. Even though my friends and I hav...
Why do people even put streaming in the same sentence as even a DVD (let alone Blu-Ray or heaven forbid BRUHD). It is just silly talk on so many levels. Especially coming from Sony PS fans who tell me PS4 is a true world console not just a Western console like the Xbox. Well if that is the case most of the worlds internet infrastructure is barely usable at low speeds and the true quality fluctuates, not a not constant (pure) mbps. Secondly, higher speed is way overpriced at the level re...
Taking into the account of the optimization of consoles I call most of these PC only marginally better than Xbox One and PS4 at playing games. Oh you mean that small minority of people that go out a spend 1500+ and then think everyone else playing games on Windows owns a hulk of a machine. I have news for you Steams own numbers don't bare that out. Most machines are not golden hair boys from brazil. More like scrappy little kids from New Jersey. Furthermore, I don't believe there i...
I still don't see a hidden agenda. Windows 10 is the OS going forward. All general support has ended for Windows 7 and 8 a while ago. How often is Sony support with updates to PS3 today? Is PSVR supported on PS3? Would continuously supporting older systems be beneficial to Sony? No. So why is bad for Microsoft not to do the same on even older systems and not expect everything is Windows 10 going forward.
PlayStation is a locked down system for Sony, Steam is locke...
I take your Dreamcast and raise you the Microsoft Sidewinder USB Game Pad. A controller sold almost three years earlier in 1996. Funny the Dreamcast seems to have expanded on that Sidewinder design/shape.
@Notellin Sorry Razer may make an Xbox controller (the Raiju is definitely not the same as the Wildcat) However, there is no official recognition from Microsoft on the Razer Wildcat. All the their literature says it is "Designed for Xbox" not approved or licensed for use by Microsoft.
