@giovonni "Nintendo doesn't release Zelda, Mario,.. etc year after year after year."
LOL! Yeah they don't release Mario games year after year, no they release three years worth in one year. There 3 Mario themed games this past year alone for the Switch. And that doesn't even count how they stuff their characters (not just Mario) in other games. In perspective, this would be like the same year Halo 6 comes Microsoft releases a Halo Racer game and Halo ...
Not upgrading. That sounds like just a little move. What they said is there will be no start-over. No, users rebuild for library. Developers will not start from scratch. The next console will continue the same development platform. Perhaps the ideas as discussed would be phasing out the original Xbox One and S models as supported. The X will then transition to a base model by that time (say $249 or $299) while the next model, say X2, will be positioned at the high end ($399 to $499).
@ooquis I am assume it would be similar to how Netflix or any other service that supplies a lot of content they don't own. For Netflix they reach licensing agreements with each company and not generally paid out on how many people actually watch (or in GP how many may download - although additional payment may arise if more than say X download/watch it). It is in most cases a set cost for an item(s) to appear in a catalog. Netflix or Microsoft will have the usage data they would use to ...
@yellowgerbil "sales don't lie Gt>forza. "
Yup great logic there. Lets apply that awesome sales logic everywhere.
McDonalds' Quarter Pounder > In-N-Out Double Double (damn now I am hungry for In-N-Out)
We can make a list of hundreds of similar sales comparisons that don't translate into anything. I guess what we learned by applying your incredible infallible logic here is the Xbox gamers (a smaller population) ha...
@dreue Then why do you have the PS3 hanging around still? You defeat your argument by mentioning that. If there wasn't a care about old games you would not have a PS3 sitting around for that day you say will never come. For me, I actually don't have to have my old Xbox 360 hanging around taking up space because I get to use my Xbox One system to run those games for free through BC. Perhaps, you should sell that PS3 then you can tell us again how old games don't matter. In fac...
@OffRoadKing8 "Play Anywhere means you don't need the xbox at all." No you just need a reasonably powered gaming PC.
Of course you ignore the real elephant in the room. You just deflect. Are you scared because you realize Sony is actually providing a direction where console-less future is actually possible. With PSNow it means you don't need a computer at all or a PS console for that matter; actually any console will do, Switch, Xbox, Atari they all wou...
@Markusb332 What are you reading stories from 5 years ago? There was one activist board member, from ValueAct, named Mason Morfit, that wanted the spin off and others changes. Most of his ideas were ignored and often Microsoft did the opposite and invested more into those areas that have now propelled Microsoft to it's highest stock pricing and profits. He is no longer on the board and actually changed his position about gaming at Microsoft a while ago. But, I do find it funny that ...
Yes they are 20 billion in debt but, many pundits believe that even though it is a large amount (around a quarter of the companies market cap) it is necessary investment that needs to be made at this point. I think personally they are overvalued as a company because of the fracturing of content between streaming services that started taking place this past year.Netflix will be most affected by that because up until late 2000's they had no unique content of their own and are easily subjec...
Only one problem in your future Xbox Games Pass on Playstation future. The games are not compatiable with the OS. I know you may not be tech inclined but this is the same reason you just can't download a MacOS program and it will work in Windows or Linux and vice versa. Secondly, like PSNow many of the GP games are third party and available on the other platform already (whether it be PSNow or Sony's store). But, considering the two distinct distributions setups for each companies G...
@morganfell Grasping at straws you don't even have to grasp at.
Seriously, XB1X a Hail Mary what does that make the PS4 Pro? (don't give that PSVR excuse, than that means they sold the PSVR knowing that it would run like crap on the original PS4)
And with all your laughable bad logic as if two unrelated items, Scalebound and the workd on a future console device, are the same. Hardly, not even related. How many devices over the years did Sony canc...
I am confused here. Which company has a service which currently does not need a console to run their games? Which company has service that was originally designed to run games from smart TV's and Blu-Ray players without a console? Not Microsoft, that would be Sony with PSNow. So how you can say Microsoft is transitioning to towards something that Sony has been doing more of is beyond me. Of course all the transitioning you think Xbox has been doing doesn't exist other than your own ...
@gangsta_red Microsoft has a streaming service in development. In fact, they had internal trial runs for a previous system back 2011 and another in 2013. They (wisely) decided to provide an acceptable streaming service any move would be inefficient, expensive and it fell to the fact that many places did not have the infrastructure to support streaming as viable option. On contrast to that, Sony brought the world a system that was designed for devices it no longer supports and it has so far sc...
I always find the term sport and atheletes applied to gaming so silly. It should be EGames not ESport. Pro gamer not athelete. A sport (the actual definition) requires actual true physical exertion beyond just a skill set. Sorry, chess is not a sport nor is pushing buttons on a controller in 15 minute gaming bursts (ouch... thumb cramp). Competitive Jenga is just as much a sport and players atheltes as video gaming is. Or how about thos great role-playing atheletes that play Dungeon and Dr...
Well depends. Do you plan on playing the game for quite a while? Then early investment may work if there is nothing on GP you want to play for months after that initial month. For example, if they release Halo 6 on day one if I don't have GP at the time because there is nothing the in catalog I was interested I would not add it for that game. I know I would spend a lot more than 6 months playing the game and may take breaks but start playing randomly week by week. The expense to use GP ...
Are you salty PS4 fanboy? This sounds exactly like what Sony did with GTS. The game was limited, the cars were limited, even the SP required an online account to advance your game (sounds like #2). The game is essentially online only play (even now with several months of patches to fix the game - sounds like #3). They keep you paying for PSPlus this way, waiting for the new cars to drop and tell you they will fix those issues. Sneaky Sony. Wait wasn't always connected to play one of t...
@JeffGunz Lets also not forget that Phil mentioned in interviews when GP was released that he would like Microsoft to produce truly exclusive content for the service. So, in the future GP could see (according to Spencer) serialized games. This would be similar to how TellTale releases their games. That would be an option of keeping people interested in the program plus giving members unique content compared to what you can get outside the program.
blah... blah... blah.. What the F' are you talking about? Seriously, what PS4 fanboy porn are you subscribing to? A direction where the console doesn't exist would require a service that is indifferent to the hardware. And as far as I can tell (unless you know something) this service still requires that Xbox to play. There is only one service that is actually agnostic to hardware and that is Sony's PSNow. So, where is the clamouring of doom for Sony they are the ones that don...
Yeah, I remember a few years ago when Microsoft started making a push for clouds services and Amazon was the single dominant player (think PS4 on super steroids compared to Microsoft Xbox). Microsoft announced they were going to make major pushes. And people thought it would amount to nothing. Yet, less than six years later they are now the dominant enterprise supplier for cloud services. They are rated as top in all but one metric for services. They spent over 18 billions a year for the pas...
