Why because you can't have a chaotic crew of 20 pirates to command or ignore you? I have had just the opposite experience. My original expectations were at best timid and over the alpha and now closed beta they have become exceedingly positive for this game. Especially considering all the changes they have made and enhancements they have added or have planned for the game. A lot more fun than I definitely expected. Easy for anyone to pickup and play.
Sony devices have always been very temperamental with their software playing various media types. For me personally, I tend to use my Xbox for media playback over my Pro. And when Microsoft's own Xbox media fails I use the VLC Xbox app and it works on almost anything (not the greatest UI though). To my point, I do wish Sony was not so locked down on allowing third party app support. A more open app system for the PS4 could easily fill these gaps. Especially when their own software (...
Whoops! My mistake. I have just been informed by a co-worker that the White PS4 Pro was priced originally at $449. So, the limited edition white PS4 Pro console is really only $25 over the original price.
The MSRP for the X, even the Scorpio edition, has always been $499 not $599 that this one is priced at. So your answer should really have been people aren't willing to a $400 more than a S or $100 more than the actual price of an X. But, I guess Amazon sees some demand for this limited version or they wouldn't have priced it a $100 over MSRP. Only 10 in stock.
Note they also have the discontinued and once highly sought after...
@MakoD Not hard to counter. Your whole thesis that streaming means the same thing. Your point
@stokedAF was that streaming existed for 10 years. I countered by your lack of defining streaming. Streaming has existed for 100+ years. But, streaming is broad term you seem to pigeon whole into some small definition of which he was discussing.
>> "Hm, the future, you mean the past... streaming has been around for a decade+ at this point, even game streami...
@MakoD Stop playing stupid. Streaming implies a completely different thing and you know it. It is like saying the cloud is the same thing that existed in the 70's when IBM used networking services for running their 3270 terminals.
Streaming is a general term and depending on the technology. Streaming music ten years ago is quite different than the technology required to stream gaming. Smart fetching for gaming is quite different then linear path that a movie can fol...
How? Most of the games on this system are quite old to very old. Most of anything recent are small games one could find easily on phones as well. Not that small games aren't fun, they are just not what drives most people to gaming on PCs or consoles. Most large third party publishers aren't in the catalog and even if you find one game it is probably an ancient one. No EA games, no Ubisoft, No Activision, No 2K, No Zenimax, No Capcom, No Sony, No Microsoft, etc...
"move over redbox, playstation now is about to get even better."
So what you are saying PSNow is going to get better by going from really crappy to just crappy? I can't wait as it shouldn't be hard to go from 720p, 30fps max, artifact ridden games, lousy latency to anything better Even if they do get better than the awesome service they are now (/sarcasm off) they will actually need to provide a catalog of recent & decent games that people will be int...
Really. I wouldn't be so smug about no substitute. Your days are numbered. 3D printed furniture is going to be here in mass fairly soon. Several companies are already doing it and it will continue to improve over (a short) time, expense will drop, small shops will be able to afford machines. Imagine in a few years when you can go to the local furniture store or online and pick out your design and have it printed to your specs in a day (few hours) it will be ready to taken/shipped home...
We aren't at the level to stream anything at 4K no mater what Netflix says it is doing. Netflix can barely stream HD, Their Blu-Ray experience is compressed with an overall experience more aligned to basic DVD quality. Netflix and Amazon streaming services have made viewing easier but definitely have moved backward in the quality of the viewing source. And even if Netflix is bad with it's compression, artifacts and other degradation from the source it is still better than the streami...
Actually the article implied they are one and the same. That all GAAS are the same in the end. Such services will end badly for all users. Not true. These games focused on here use a completely different model that requires users to pay at some point. A The death is generally caused by users wanting something for nothing. Even popular game using this model of free-play will shut its services if the users aren't going to support the underlying infrastructure with in-game purchases. In f...
This article is conflating two different types of monetized services. Gamers Pass and yes even PSNow are the actual games; you are essentially renting games on monthly basis. No different then buying the actual game itself when it comes to the gaming experience. Well, at least with Gamer's Pass the game experience the same; the games run no differently. So, if that server for MP dies for these games it dies for all versions of the game whether you buy it digitally, a physical medium o...
@Markusb33 services? hardly. those are a mess that using Azure would definitely improve. As for Office different business model. That drives service needs. Microsoft is doing that for mobile because they don't have a major player in the game and don't want people going elsewhere. Most of what you are talking about are apps not the actual full programs. MacOs is supported with a some what equivalent Office package but Linux and Android are not. How does that translate for a game, it...
@darthv72 Anti-Competitive? WTF. Seriously, EA made a play for something that was up for a competitive bid and they won the bid for exclusive rights. That was the competitive part. Remind me is NBC allowing all the other American broadcasting channels to show the Winter Olympics? Is Pepsi served at McDonald's? In fact do they serve they serve McDonald's at Pizza Hut? Does Sony make their fist party games for Xbox are do they shun Xbox? Speaking of sports how are all those Monday nig...
Not with a guaranteed year to year line up of money makers. Just the sports lineup brings in a great deal of cash. Adding the likes of Battlefield/Battlefront, Titanfall, and myriad of others would be insane. Besides, nothing says Microsoft couldn't buy out other developers or make do with EA's many studios to do even more games.
Think of it this way. Disney bought out 20th Century Fox studios for 60 billion to get access mainly to their big players, Alien, Avata...
@DarXyde And where are you going? PC has long ago abandoned actual media. A greater percentage of users buy digital on PC and gladly do so without even batting an eye compared to the console market user. Are you just going give up on gaming completely then?
By the way, physical media will never disappear. This FUD happens when ever there is big change happening. However, it never really becomes the same doom and gloom reality as expected. Games will long be here on phy...
Unfortunately a lot of that profit from both SIE and their insurance division (guaranteed profit drivers for the company in past 4 years) goes to support several failing divisions. That is one of the reasons many investors want Sony to spin-off SIE completely so it can realize its own value and retain all it's own profits and not have them support the rest of the company. Sony as a whole is only worth about 62 billion, Nintendo 45 billion. Just think about that, Sony as a whole is only w...
PSNow is both discless and console agnostic by its very design. True GP is digital but by it's very design needs the actual console or a fairly strong PC (for PlayAnywhere games) to run. You can disagree but those are facts. At some point PSNow is going to have to be more aggressive in it catalog and device support in order to survive and Sony definitely doesn't want to kill CEO Kodera's baby. Sony can't afford supporting a system that is just a pay to play BC service. At so...
@Rhythmattic You act like you know what you talking about but, you really don't. You seriously have no clear idea of what PlayFab is do you? You see cloud in an article and assume it something about Microsoft making a transition to GAAS for the Xbox.
PlayFab is developers tool set to watch and modify games back-end servers. So, that a game, like Monster Hunter, (with a large online multiplayer base) can scale and modify it is usage to better serve those playing the...
