according to both companies figures, its actually 3 million behind, not 2.9:
360: 44.6 million as of Oct 28 ( http://au.xbox360.ign.com/a... )
PS3: 41.6 million as of Oct 29 (this article)
3 million behind, price cut already done, motion control already released.....Microsoft can lower their price any time they want, and still have their big potential ace up their sle...
i can help you out there:
1. HDR lighting vs deferred lighting?
ANSWER: HDR lighting. the reason that Halo 3 and Halo Reach arent the full 720p resolution is because of HDR. in order to do HDR 'right' they have to render the framebuffer twice, so they could preserve as much dynamic range as possible. Halo Reach features the same deferred lighting system as Killzone 2 and 3, along with its two frame buffer HDR, so its clear that HDR is more taxing on the conso...
@NecrumSlavery: "I always though it took more skill in GH, cause that was more of a guitar sim than a party game"
couldnt disagree more.
GH3 was incredibly easier than GH2, and every one since has been the same way. Neversoft opened up the timing window, giving you much more time in which to hit the right note than Harmonix did in GH1 and 2. RB is much less forgiving with its smaller timing windows. Guitar hero has always been the 'party' ga...
@pwnsause: "you can do this on PS3 since early 2009."
no, you cant. on the 360 you can sign in 4 profiles on the dashboard, and they stay signed in until you turn the console off or sign them out manually. you can be playing a game single player and the other 3 accounts will still be signed in.
on the PS3, you can sign in other accounts in SOME individual games. as soon as you exit the game what happens? theyre all signed out.
2 dif...
for every controller thats turned on and connected to the 360 you can sign in a new profile. obviously you cant have 2 profiles signed in to the same controller lol. you can have 4 profiles signed in at once on the 360 if you have 4 controllers connected.
the fact that 4 years after release you still cant do this on the PS3 shows how poorly sony integrated their online system.
"This doesn't absolve the real issues Microsoft has."
finding a bank big enough to hold all their massive profits? selling too many operating systems? being the number 1 HD console of this generation?
i couldnt have asked for a better ending to Reach.
if you thought the post-credits ending was bad then youve obviously missed the whole point of the game. no matter what you did, how hard you fought, how many enemies you killed, Reach was going to fall. the ending was an absolutely perfect representation of this. you could play it for an hour, killing 100+ elites and grunts, but you will eventually fall. i thought it was an incredibly moving ending to the game.
The article makes some stupid points too.
- "Microsoft's media platform Zune was dead on arrival". not really. the MP3 player market is easily one of the toughest markets to break into, as it was basically created by the ipod and is owned by the ipod. the Zune does ok in the US. with Zunes integration with the windows phone 7, its only going to go up.
- "Bing is growing, but substantially all of that growth has come at the expense of its bu...
geeze some of you guys spout some rubbish.
Microsoft havent lost $3+ billion on RROD - back when they announced the RROD warranty, they SET ASIDE $1billion to cover all present and FUTURE RROD fixes and replacements. to date they might have used $990 million of that........or they might have only used $100 million of it - we dont know. all we know is that it hasnt cost them $1 billion yet, or another RROD cost wouldve been put in their yearly financials.
Micr...
yes, it is.
Resolution plays so very little part in how good a game looks that its not even worth mentioning. if someone didnt tell you what resolution a game was in, you wouldnt know or care.
and probably unlike yourself, i grew up playing games in resolutions lower than what youd get on a $20 mobile phone these days. if a game looks great, does it matter if its only 1200x720 instead of 1280x720? never mind the fact that with these consoles you literally ca...
the sony lost MULTIPLE class action lawsuits over the PS2s failure rates. Microsoft has never lost ANY lawsuit over the 360s failure rate, let alone multiple class action ones - and its not from lack of people trying.
the PS2 is a great system, but it had probably the worst failure rate the industry has ever seen for a while there. funnily enough, so did the original playstation with its flimsy plastic rail for the laser-eye, which was guaranteed to fail if you played it long...
how are those games 'technically advanced' though?
1. Killzone 2 & 3: the only thing thats 'technically advanced' is its lighting, using a deferred renderer. well guess what? dozens of games are using deferred renderers now. Halo Reach has it too. apart from that, Killzone 2 does nothing technically advanced at all.
2. Uncharted 1 & 2: nothing too technically advanced going on here AT ALL. great AI? nope, run of the mill. great physics...
thats like xboxisbetterthanplaystation.co m posting an article saying that GT5:P is a waste of money, but then saying 'but GT5 will probably be solid'. you know what you mean by it, only an idiot cant read between the lines.
calling it 'solid' infers that its a 6-7 out of 10 game at most. Reach is not a 'solid' game by ANY standards, its a 'great' game.
then again youre a playstation fanboy site, i shouldnt have expected anyth...
i just love the subtle stab at Reach you guys threw in, just couldnt hold back the fanboy thoughts could you?
"Like I said, Reach made up for ODST and is a solid game overall."
Reach a 'solid game overall'? lol. its up there with the best games of the generation, and youd say as much if it was on the PS3.
the only people that should be disappointed with ODST are the people that thought it was 'Halo: ODST', instead o...
im surprised that people still think that Rock Band 3s pro mode is some sort of watered down version of guitar.
let me spell it out to you in nice big letters:
PRO MODE IS LITERALLY THE TABBED VERSION OF THE REAL SONG!!!! every single note is there, on the correct frets, in pro-mode on expert. if you play the song on pro-mode expert difficulty, you just played it on real guitar. it is EXACTLY the same - thats why they even include the option of having NO guit...
youre kidding yourself if for one second you dont think that millions and millions of the 360 and PS3s sales are to the 'casual' crowd.
theyre the people that bought the PS3 as a cheap blu-ray player. theyre the people who bought one when it had a price drop because they didnt care about it before then. theyre the people that buy them and then hardly buy any games. theyre the people that buy the arcade 360s. the people that buy the 4gb 360 slims. they just want to pla...
it was never widely known that they would have a controller add-on for kinect - it was widely known that Kinect could be used IN CONJUNCTION WITH a controller. 2 very different things.
and im not saying fanboys are idiots for saying theres a controller for kinect - im saying the fanboys are idiots for saying that just because theres an OPTIONAL controller it means that the 'your body is the controller' tagline is a lie. controller or not, your body is still a controll...
itll outsell Move, ill say thats pretty much guaranteed.
i have no interest in the games that have been shown, but im buying one just for the motion and voice control media playback. could also be good for headset-free chat when i just quickly need to talk to someone over Live, though of course for online play ill use a headset.
people loved how easy the wii was to use, and how casual the games were. Kinect is even easier, and LOOKS even more 'fun' a...
lol
"If you have two input devices - one with no lag, and one with plenty of lag, then the actions of the laggy one is going to create problems."
you do realise that Move uses 2 input devices, one of which has no lag (the controller buttons) and one of which has plenty of lag (the camera), dont you?
dont give use any BS about the camera not having lag - ive got one myself and you can clearly see the lag that is associated with EVER...
the worldwide lead was actually about 8.5 million or so when the PS3 released. so in 4 years theyve cut that down about 5 million. going by that rate, theyll overtake the 360 in another 2.5 years or so.
so when we're all playing the 360s successor.
