Those kinds of massive remasters are much bigger productions than something like GTA V hitting next-gen consoles and The Last of Us Remastered, for example. I think the author is referring to remasters that come out within a year or two.
Remakes are great, which backwards compatibility doesn't hinder at all. No one is going to say that FFVII Remake and FFVII are so close that playing one means you've truly experienced the other. So backwards compatibility reduces the temptation for a publisher to just remaster a game and they can potentially put that money into a new IP or sequel, etc.
Razzer, you're right, I did mean that if PS5 games are only playable on PS5, and yes there are some cross-gen games, but there are also PLENTY of exclusives and launch titles that are not cross-generational, and some people will see this as an issue.
Razzer, the translation of the report from Yasuda says: "It is assumed that sales of 6 million units in the first year and 15 million units in the next year are assumed."
Nothing in there says anything about it being a fiscal year, so perhaps it is up for interpretation, but we're going based on the documentation itself. Everywhere else Yasuda mentions fiscal years with the words "fiscal year" in the document, why wouldn't he add that first fiscal year and...
That's a fair point. Microsoft seems to be doing well offering more choice than Sony. They're playing so many things close to the chest.
You've got a LOT of solid points here, and it makes sense, but unfortunately the consumer mentality is different. You're completely right that the $499 console today is really no different than the $399 console ten years ago. But consumers just see absolute numbers, and so it's all dependent on the marketing.
Edit: added "dependent on" to the last sentence.
Don't forget, we're a small subset of the community. To sell 14 million units in its first year like the PS4 did, only a small portion of that frequent N4G. We're the nerdy gaming community, but Sony is also trying to build their gaming console for the masses.
Conveniently left out the rest of the sentence, "what may appear to be a lack of choice in consoles for those that want to play new games that are only available on the newest systems."
If PS5 only plays PS5 games, then people feel that they have to upgrade to get new games, compared with Xbox's model of being compatible all within the same family of consoles. With Xbox, you've got the option to upgrade, and you can wait for Xbox One X2 or X3 or whatever is next, kn...
SolidGamerX: absolutely, they're often incorrect, but they've got more market analysis insight and at least a good a chance, if not better, as anyone else to make a prediction, so Abash making their own prediction is a bit backwards if their logic is that the analyst doesn't get it right.
You spelled "wildly" wrong. Okay, that's a joke, we obviously don't have any numbers for Xbox One X specifically, but still, imagine a PS5 at $399. *drools*
$499 is too high, don't make the same mistake!
Editing on this article is all wrong. It was their second State of Play, and why is there a "7" in the headline?
Based on what? A respected Japanese analyst is expecting the PS5 to sell 6m units in its first year, less than half of the PS4's first year. 6m is nothing to scoff at, but it's not the numbers that Sony posted last time. Even Xbox One sold 10m units within its first year. 6m would not be considered a success in comparison by any stretch.
Edit: the analyst is also referenced in the article, but you would know that if you read the article, wouldn't you?
Actually...... http://scienceline.ucsb.edu...
Completely agree, but when games like Cyberpunk 2077 get announced and everyone loses their bananas over it, the impressions of the games, the secrets from the show floor, all those little details that are uncovered, that fuels the news fire. If everything is so carefully controller in pre-recorded videos, it's a lot tougher to find things that can stoke media fire.
We're looking at a 2-hour conference, minimum. No shenanigans of moving between venues this year, either ;)
Who's to say what Sony will do with State of Play, really, but ideally, third parties want to be on a stage at E3, we think. The Nintendo Direct model works for Nintendo, but who knows if third parties are okay with skipping E3 the way Sony is.
Imagine they start announcing shocking games that we have no idea about, but they clearly do, conspiracy theories would fly.
Love to see the predictions flowing in!!
There is no reason 256GB internal storage would be anything more than $50-60, especially considering Nintendo is paying for it at massive bulk quantities. If a 256GB microSD card is $50, that’s the top end of what it would cost for just the flash chip, minus any packaging, etc.
Agreed, my first reaction was, "it hasn't already?"
