Having the Steelbook without the disk is them saying "look, if you're spending $250 on this, we know you probably have all the Halo games on disc since the beginning, but we won't give you the disc for this. Instead, here's a Steelbook to shove in your collection to make it look complete."
Looks like I've just saved the $190 difference between the $60 game and the collector's edition. Can't argue with that.
Could absolutely see Amped, MechAssault, and Viva Piñata, but Halo Wars and PGR, I just don't see, especially with the mammoth popularity of Forza.
Nobody saw the Wii coming, and even Peter Moore said the Xbox team discounted Nintendo completely when they were figuring out launch details with the Xbox 360, so who knows. Nintendo also happens to have a staggered bout of success. N64 was huge, GameCube not so much, Wii was massive, Wii U not so much (to say the least!), so we'll see how things go.

I originally read this article and thought, "no but that game mechanic is good in x game", until I realized you suggested they should evolve, and that is the best thing for gaming in general. Create a better auto-save system, a better tutorial, a better minimap, etc. All good
Can't say I agree that Halo has lost some of its magic. Bungie proved that they were masters of storytelling, and I feel like Halo 4 had one of the strongest stories of any Halo game. Sure, it was a bit repetitive around the game mechanics of hitting three switches and running and gunning, but don't forget that Bungie pioneered that gameplay, too.
Quite entertaining video, best roundup of the news of Arkham Knight I've seen so far...
Opinion is just that: opinion. There's also something to be said for respecting other people's opinions. This article isn't clickbait, it's breaking down exactly why we thought the presentation was uneventful, for the most part, from someone who was invited to it and saw it live. As someone who has been to seven E3s, there is something to be said for the lack of time people have during that week. Every minute is precious, so spending a couple of hours at a conference that esse...
You're absolutely right, these games have been sought after for a very long time, but did they need a press conference? I don't think they did, but that's why this is an opinion piece. I also think it would have taken the world by much bigger storm to have each game at Microsoft and Sony's conferences because it would be a bigger surprise. No more of this announcing games before E3 garbage.
Agreed. For a franchise that has been around for almost 30 years, Nintendo is still finding ways to make it genuinely fresh and unique.
Nice lengthy preview, worth a watch!
This is the way all gamers should treat all gamers, regardless of allegiance to one or two game consoles. Mr. Yoshida has a huge corporate reputation to live up to, and if anything, a visit like this strengthens the community of gamers and shows that even massive companies like Sony want to make sure that GAMING wins.
At least it won't be Wii Party U Resort Zero or whatever they're calling the next one. :)
Not really a surprise given the fanfare of the game, but knowing that this will make mainstream news will help people continue to realize how vital video games are to the economy. Win-win.
There was very little actual story discussed in the session. Lots of gameplay mechanics, but if anything, I'm more intrigued by the story now because the small sections we did see were all over the place in the game and nothing story was revealed outside of the organization Trinity and that Lara is on a hunt for the key to immortality, which is pretty obvious given her past, hah!
They had quite a bit of the demo at their conference, but the behind closed doors demo was about a half hour long, so not possible to squeeze into an hour and a half conference.
Hah, I'll admit it took me a while to get that joke, but it was quite funny :)
They've done San Monica before, and the show started in Atlanta way back in 1995. Wouldn't mind if they did something cool like New York, but I'd be more satisfied with something like Texas. Vegas would just be too much and CES already takes over Vegas every January.
I was thinking that, too, but I think a lot of people really like Elena and she'll be a bigger part of the story than she was the last time around. Of course, Naughty Dog could go completely the other way and just throw her in for the sake of ending with a love story, but let's hope that's not the case. I'm just glad she's back.
Your idea that people would choose Uncharted against Tomb Raider is absolutely correct. That is why it makes sense to release Tomb Raider on PC during that time for people who want their fix of an action adventure game like that but don't want to buy a PS4 at that time. Then, later that year, when the Uncharted hype has died down a bit, the PS4 version of Tomb Raider comes out. No one is saying TR could effectively knock off Uncharted, so this is the smartest way to combat against it.
