His job isn't to predict the future like an oracle, but rather to bring forward potential strategies and potential outcomes. If he was right all the time, he would be an investor and make millions, not report his ideas and thoughts of the future.
It's a risk proposition.
"Not necessarily, since the $299 MW2 bundle would possibly have compensated the Arcade price for those wanting the game anyhow. That said, the ban was absolutely timed right."
Do you really think that a $400 MW2 (I'm assuming you meant $400 not $300) console sold in a recession will make such a significant impact alone? In contrast the PS3 whom overall should bring more value is just sold at $300. That is quite a compliment.
Now coupled that with the consol...
MS has repeatedly shown that they sell a service and that is were the future is. IBM did this with great success and got out of the PC business as well.
I'm looking forward to see what Sony is bringing to the table.
I think MS did really well considering last year they had a price cut and this year the PS3 is the same price as the Elite i.e. the value proposition is shifting in PS3s favor. Sony by all means did great as well considering they don't have a $200 SKU.
What most likely happened is you buy the console/game for the platform that your friends are playing on and the 360 has a larger user base in the U.S.

Notice that the average selling price of the 360 ...
It seems the war that MS is trying to fight isn't with consumer pirates, but rather resellers passing off fakes as genuine. The unsuspecting and potentially naive consumer.
People that frequently pirate will probably just get their stuff from bittorrent sites instead of actually paying a (online) store for the software.
Flash cache would be a pain, because some games require installation. Do we have to install the game every time we play? we all know the blu-ray drive as is, is very slow already....
I don't care if the power supply is internal or external, because it is in the back. I never look at it and when I move it around, the cord tends to be longer. Given a choice, I rather have it external because the heat is NOT contained in the machine instead. These things run hot as it is.
- MS is doing really sh!tty in Japan. Better than the previous generation, but probably history's second worst console sales of all time in Japan. Yep, MS probably took the two top spots for selling the least consoles in Japan. I respect MS for not giving up on Japan though! Not sure what else they could have done.
- PS2 sells almost as much as PS3 in the same time frame at 75% of PS3 sales. WTF? Contrast that with the US.
So neither Sony or MS is really doing well in Japan...
If we get in-game graphics like that, then it has exceeded my expectations.
Time and time again game play trumps graphics and that is where I want developers to put the most resources in. In fact, most great games don't look that great.
Imagine, how much better Mass Effect would have been with a slightly dumbed down graphics and considerably less frame rate issues!
You can talk how MS stole the show, but that still doesn't explain why the PS3 sales number are lower with such a marketing push (probably Sony's largest I have ever seen), price cut, bundles with TV, redesign and stellar game lineup.
I mean, the fact that MW2 bundle increased, sales, the $99 walmart deal and the banning has no real effect on the PS3 sales. The PS3 consumers are a different segment when you look at those factors, besides it is quite a compliment that a $400 cons...
Racing games sell as good in Europe as shooters do in the US. So it is entirely possible that Forza 3 sold 500k in Europe and elsewhere.
That is among the reasons why PS3 and GT franchise is so big in Europe.
I didn't expect R&C to do well at all. This is the type of game that would probably sell really well on the Wii, not on the PS3. On the other hand, I was expecting the jaw dropping gorgeous Uncharted 2 too.
Seeing how the PC version was canceled long ago, the game has been in development for a long time and the game still isn't going to be released for almost 6 months, it seems like Remedy might just made a wise choice and focus on perfecting one version.
Sounds almost like a resource issue here.... As previous games has shown, PC/X360 exclusivity is not something MS is shying away from. It seems more developer issues like Gears of War 2, where piracy is rampant.

... and no there wasn't really a choice, when you literally have to pay out of your nose for a PS3 with BC at $500-600.
Consumers want reasonably priced products with the features they want. Sony got reasonably priced, and now many of us want BC! Doubt Sony will listen though.
That might explain its higher sales numbers....
That is one of my biggest wishes for the PS3, backwards compatibility without paying through the nose. I still laugh at how Sony pointed out the importance of BC only to go back on their word.
As the article pointed out, BC will never come back and instead we will have to re-buy the "improved" games. The way, I see it. If Sony can outsource two games to be remade with upgraded graphics in only 4 months, there is no way they couldn't create a software only emulator for B...
Permeates the culture in the US?
I thought the PS3 came off a 140 million user base and still continues to sell. There is still no denial that the Xbox brand has a come a long way in the US, but the Playstation brand is what people grew up with and is what has been around for a long long time as the dominating console. Xbox is to Playstation as Playstation is to Nintendo in branding.
It still doesn't have traction in most parts of Europe and Japan.
"Could you honestly say that you have none-zero worries about your Xbox 360 failing on you everytime you use it? " - sc thor
Yeah, I had my worries when I first bought it. In fact, I had heard so much bad things about it and the fact that MS basically admitted there was a problem by introducing 3-year warranty, I was concerned. I even bought a 3-year warranty from a third party (Target) in case I got a RROD or what I considered the more likely problem, the DRE.

On the surface, MS might have dropped the price on the elite, but considering the lack of the Pro at $250, the entry price to the Hard drive model is $50 higher than it used to be.
Yet, they sold stellar numbers and I'm amazed. I expect the PS3 to demolish the 360 this Holiday, but it looks like they will be neck in neck.
I don't know about Europe as PS3 is very strong in every country except the biggest market, UK. Japan is essentially a lost cause for the 360. Over...
I'm not saying RROD doesn't exist, but I never suffered from it. Not once. Admittedly, my first 360 was bought a little more than two years ago and was among the first batches of Falcons.
Despite that, people were saying the Falcons had massive problems. I have two falcons with no problems with heavy use. Hours upon hours every week!
My experience has been good and so has many others. Likewise, many others have had a bad experience. I would never trust a refurbed Xbo...
"You know, it is possible to love both consoles. I do, I slightly favor my 360 over the Playstation, but i enjoy both and i will continue to do so for the rest of this generation, with great exclusive titles on both systems, by supporting both systems i consider myself to be the winner, not MS or SONY.
You can like one console more than the other without being a fanboy :), but i do understand that when you see some dumb comments on here, you just want to flip."

Halo: Reach looks really good. Looking forward to multiplayer beta coming shortly!
