It is a big deal because it sets a precedent that the manufacturer can remove a feature at will after a product has been sold and in customers hand.

How many people is affected isn't even relevant because this could apply to anything. Imagine if Sony cited PS2 software BC gives people the opportunity to play pirated PS2 games so they are going to remove it. At a minimum they should compensate consumers somehow for the downgrade instead of slapping them in the face with an insult....

"is the imply that the Wii ruined motion control for everybody, and that Sony is here to save the day. Paging Peter Dille ..."

That is partly true, Nintendo opened up the doors to millions of casuals, but greatly disappointed hard core gamers. If you got burned once, you will think twice the second time so Sony got a slight uphill battle overcoming that seeing as the majority of Sony's user base are hard core gamers, technology fanatics and Blu-ray movie watchers. The f...

The Xbox brand wouldn't change much because of a failed product. Ask Nintendo if their brand was suffered because of Virtual Boy.

I think it is enough of a differentiator from other competing consoles that it will attract casuals and at a minimum be moderately successful. If anything the casuals will see this is a significant step up from the Wii with more motion controls and significantly improved graphics in games.

With that said, the excitement I saw in videos fro...

Every time you do a reboot, you will get upset fans of the original series. With a game as popular as the Splinter Cell series, you will naturally get a lot of vocal (read fan atics) that is upset about the changes.

Sometimes I wonder if it is just better to create a new IP with the new game mechanics and calling it a spiritual successor alas Bioshock is to System Shock? That way you have two IPs instead of potentially ruining the current IP for current fans....

As far as I know, Sony just set a precedent that it is fine to remove features after you purchased a product that they advertise will be able to do.

I doesn't matter that it only affects a small portion of the consumer base, because Sony just took something that rightly belong to them.

Sony advertised:

a) All PS3 consoles can play all PS3 games

b) PS3 can run Linux/Other OS

Now, I'm forced to do pick one or the other. I hope Son...

It is well known that the PS3 is harder to program for than the 360, so I think he is spot on. With that said, I don't remember him saying anything relatively negative towards the PS3 and his preference is not a reason to attack the guy.

His ego on the other hand is PRETTY BIG, but the guy makes some great games. NG2 is on the top of my list when it comes to favorite games this generation. I could care less for his ego as long as he delivers some amazing games!

I don't need to setup any defense. I'm excited for motion control more now after using my Wii more in a family fun setting. However, I have not seen any reason to replace my Wii since it is so rarely used, so a low cost and some great games or software feature is the only way to get me to purchase PS Move.

If PS Move is an option, that is great! Option is always great!

However, I sense much fanboyism in you....

Are you for real?

Objecting to a removal of a feature has nothing to do with supporting piracy. If you look back at my comment history you will find that I hate pirates as I'm a software developer myself. Nobody is blaming Sony for protecting their business. However, when in attempt to protect a business from a NON-EXISTANT threat hurts me as a legitimate consumer I will speak up.

When I bought my machine it was implicitly understood that I could:

a) ins...

So we can get amazing looking Wii games in 3D!!!

Jokes aside, I didn't realize 3D was that taxing on the system. As it is great looking Full 1080p games don't exist at best we get Full 720p and combining that with 3D is a pipe dream.

We will end up with 3D games that look like launch titles and unfortunately, the PS3 crowd seems to be graphics whores.

For me game play trumps graphics any time! ...and when the 3D I experienced watching Avatar 3D wasn't r...

It is clear MS tried to distance themselves from the act of spending money with points. Even worse, they use a weird multiple that makes it slightly harder for others to figure out the actual value and make it easier for them to spend the money.

At the same time it is easier for MS to manage points and let each department in each country figure out what the currency to point is.

However, it has the un-intended consequence that I always end up buying points far cheape...

Then you are in bad luck, because it seems Sony is hell bent on getting the hardcore gamers so they will probably push PS Move on as many hardcore games as possible....

Are you really that stupid? Did you even read what I said?

I said, if you choose NOT to update the PS3 the games won't work. Yet, I'm practically forced to upgrade to play the latest games. Now does it say on the game packaging that by using this game that I'm giving up features on this console? There is a warning on the package that clearly states, online experience might vary which is not something Sony can control... What does that tell you?

It's pretty clear Sony...

Yeah, there is a lot of negative sentiment towards the 360 on by users on this site unfortunately.

I never thought I would warm up to DD. A year ago, I would have condemned it. After getting more Xbox Live games, and traveling I find taking a hard drive with me a lot easier than taking 10 discs.

Of course I give up the many benefits of physical item like great discounts on clearanced games, collect-ability, resell value and lending rights to friends.

It is probably more of a case of, either Konami or Sony needs to get their finger out of ther @ss. I don't feel the support for PSP Go is there either from Sony or any publisher.

Nobody seems to be pushing it. In fact, I haven't even heard about anything that makes the PSP Go special. In almost every aspect it is crippled relative to the PSP-3000. Not to say there aren't, just that Sony needs to sell it to me and not just sit idle.

Even MGS: Peace Walker gets the lim...

After all, that just really pushed me over after going through the trouble of buying the game.

Heck I might as well quit gaming, this multiple discs are ruining the great gaming experience as I know it!

Well here is the kicker, if I didn't upgrade the firmware (which I haven't) and I decide I want to buy the latest and greatest game, God of War 4 or Uncharted 3, in order to play it I'm forced to upgrade.

Now will it say on the packaging that I'm required to upgrade my firmware and give up my rights to use the "Other OS" feature? It pretty damn clear that PS3 games are to be played on the PS3 console right? Isn't that false advertising to advertise that my PS3 can play ...

I'm excited as well. This is the sort of thing as a kid I dreamed we could do in gaming so I'm looking forward to it.

Probably day 1 purchase for me as well if the price is right!
