I call BS!
@Milky Joe above:
The 360 installation is optional while the PS3 are mostly required. I can pop in any game on disc for the 360 and play immediately. MS should have called the 360 installation something else, like clone or backup or something because people keep getting confused and compare it to the PS3.
Short summary:
PS3 = mandatory install on many games
360 = optional backup on your hard drive for faster access, but require game di...
It is not suprising that both Konami and Namco Bandai is profiting more from PS3, seeing how Konami released MGS4 for PS3 exclusively and sold tons of units. Namco Bandai is a Japanese developers catering to Japanese people. Xbox is doing poorly in Japan.
What is suprising is EA and Ubisoft. Even more odd is the 360 has a higher attach rate and grew at about the same rate as the other consoles. With larger use base, the only explanation is there is more software competition on ...
Yeah, installs don't bother me as much since it is a one time investment for each game. What is annoying is:
- The long install time and the freakin updates. I tried to play Haze, I had to do an install, then I had to update it twice. It felt like an hour went by....
- The size of the installs. I bought a PS3 at a premium price compared to the 360, so I expect the hardware to be superior. It is in most aspects, but the hard drive 40GB is lacking when games require 5GB ea...
ohhh.... karlostomy just supported his argument pretty well.
However, no matter what anyone says, nobody knows what is going to happen. Last year it seemed like MS was at full steam into the new year, but then suddenly Sony took off like jet and consistently beat the 360 sales figures. A mere 6-8 months later, the 360 is on top. It seems forecasting trends are extremely difficult.
With that said, I think the 360 will widen the gap this Christmas....
I would say the darn same thing if it was MS Kotaku leaked news on. Doesn't matter who it is. It is not like it is some kind of national secret here...
Journalists mission is to release news objectively. No favors. This of course doesn't always happen practically.
What I'm trying to say is, it is fair for Sony to try and contain the problem. However, it is not professional for Sony to punish Kotaku, by revoking invitations & etc. It is Sony's responsibility to ke...
If the news is out, it is out. Kotaku should have loyalty to their readers/visitors not to Sony. Sony F'ed up!
From a business perspective, I would have negotiated that I i.e. Kotaku would have some first dips.... but I'm glad Kotaku uncovered it.
The guys above me can complain all they want about Kotaku, but I was one of those that paid a hefty premium $670 (after tax & shipping) for a "LIMITED" console that turn not so limited at a reduce price!!!
Am I pissed? Yes, why? Konami stated there were less than 10,000 made in the US. Now it is being sold on amazon. WTF!
For the Halo 360 edition, MS never claimed the number of limited consoles nor did they significantly increase the price and have it r...
This just proves what I have said before. Idiots are abound on both sides in one form or another.
The only winner here is metacritic for the increased traffic and exposure!!!
There is no proof that this is a retail version or ripped from one for that matter. For all you know this could have been a stolen beta version.
The previous game did have a crapload of glitches though.... but hold your judgement until the game is released.
Why? When we got stuff like this delivered faster than we can walk out the door....
I like the way the trailer is laid out setting the mood, except I don't like the mix of real actors and the game footage.... It made the game graphics look crappy due to the real actors (and not because of the game itself)
I have not done my research there and can't comment, but 57% profit cut is pretty big considering gaming division is one of the "key" area that is like to be hit hard.
This should affect all three manufacturers (MS less since they don't sell as many consoles in Japan) since all consoles are likely manufactured in Asia.
We have to wait and see if any of the 2 other console manufacturers are experiencing the same.
I would also like to add, so little time....
I'm totally hyped on this game. Can't wait and got it pre-ordered. There aren't too many games I would buy day-1 at full price!
There are a couple things here that should be pointed out and is intended to respond to a number of posts above:
1. Comparing a PS3 to a Xbox 360 Arcade is futile, since they are different business model. Sony charges you an upfront cost for the whole kitchen sink. MS charges you less upfront, but more in the long run and it is for the most part optional. What is your pick? I venture to say that most consumers are short sighted and will select the 360 with the low upfront cost....
I quoted straight from the article, so you should ask if the article is correct? Just read the article...
I'm not sure why fishy is misleading you, because it is clearly stated in the article. Did fishy not read the article?
Since both comments from fishy and nineball2112 came in a short time span and support each other they might even be the same person. Basically a Sony fanboy.... This is just speculation though.
Quote from Article: "Sony has cited its games division as one of the key areas to expect a fall. 'We expect our results to be lower than the July forecast with operating income decreasing by approximately ¥130b, mainly within the Electronics and the Game segments,' the company said."
Meaning game division is likely hit the hardest. This is bad news, because competition is good and if Sony is hit hard and can't reduce prices it won't put enough pressure on MS....

I'm not a fan of GameSpot, but I think it is justified to review a game when it is released. If it is patched later, then maybe just maybe should we update the review.
Why? Because releasing a game unfinished and in poor condition (many of the problems they are having was present during the Beta) is doing customers a disservice. If it isn't ready for release, then don't. I understand that online games inherently have problems that are unforseen, but this is clearly ripping cust...
I'm so gonna get a gazillion disagrees and bubbles taken away, but I don't care.
I think it is pretty clear that Sony did a crappy job catering to game developers when designing the PS3. The PS3 has in a sense two customers, the consumer and the developers. In the past since they dominated they were able to put out poorly designed hardware for the sake of increased performance. This is no longer the case.
Hardware is useless without software, and arguably softwar...
I'm kind of disgusted by the overly blatant sex appeal to this game. Yes, yes I'm enjoying the pictures, but I would rather prefer they get cast that fit into the role rather than just for the sex appeal.
I for one will not support this game for two reasons:
1. DRM Infested EA cr*p
2. I don't want bad acting in my cut scenes that ruin the feel of the game. Sure I want to see somebody attractive, but not when it is there detracting from the overall game exp...
The main reason to install (or clone the game) are:
- decrease load time
- decrease noise from optical drive
- prevent disc read error (of course MS isn't saying this, but that is one of the main reasons I will use it for)
