Unfortunately aspergersyndrome is correct. The PS2 had literally almost no competition from the Dreamcast and had over year on the market being the only console. That gave developers a whole year to adapt to the PS2 architecture. If anything though, PS2's win last generation came about pure luck (and arguably PS1). From a business perspective and given all else equal, nobody in their right mind would choose the harder to code for system.
PlayStation's glory days are over and Wii ...
The other flipping thing is that Sony marketed the console initially as a home entertainment device focusing on Blu-Ray features. For almost a whole year (which is reasonable for a new console) they didn't have any quality games to boot. Add to the fact that a lot of people initially bought the PS3 as a quality blu-ray player exclusively as it was cheaper and basically guaranteed future support for new blu-ray features you can see why the PS3 is labeled as such. Even to this day, I would reco...
If only the US could get the steelbox edition too....
The US is getting shafted. First we got the crappier version of MGS4 LE, then SF VI LE and now KZ2. I don't like this trend!
It makes you wonder why it would pass in other territories and fail in Europe. Are US and Japanese territories less stringent or more accepting of faults?
This is BS, unless it is a language localization thing, but I can't see it being localized and that would only be in the text.
However, I played this on the PS3 and it was laggy as hell. Are all online fighting games like that?
@zlatko:
Completely agree with you. Can't wait for the game to come out later this year!
@steven_colbert
What you are saying is indeed true. However, having the game released on multiple platforms never hurt the consumers so I don't care!
Any idiot can see that Sony market share in revenue doesn't matter. It is profit and potential for future business. MS although lost revenue and profit, have increased investment in reaping long term benefit of the larger user base.
In the world of consoles, unless you are making a profit on every console sold like the Wii, increased revenue means nothing compared to installed user base. Because a person paid twice as much for their console doesn't mean they are likely to spend t...
I did experience two freezes after the update, but haven't used my PS3 much since the update. It was in a browser though trying to use Youtube and hulu.
This site doesn't point to a thread or another source, so I would say it is fake. How the hell does a firmware update burn out the lens? Does it turn it on at max for hours? Kind'a suprised negative PS3 news is coming from a site named ps3center.
It's interresting how none of the delusional fanboys complain about the Wii. I see Wii as a direct threat to hardcore gamers, primarily because they introduced gimmicky mini-party games, rehashed sequels, crappy (or should I say non-existent) online service, low-end hardware for sake of profit and load of crapware that sells.
This is a model that both MS and Sony will follow the next generation unless they drag this one out seeing how Wii is selling so well on low-end hardware. T...
lol @mgoelite
It is a disturbing direction for sure. Shorter DLC at the same price tag. Features taken out of games to be sold as DLC. Nobody is forcing me to buy it, but we used to get a lot more free content. Now, everything is a DLC. I partly blame MS for this!
Wish the steelbox edition would come to the US. We are getting shafted.
Actually, I went to Cal and took a class on competitive fighting games such as Street Fighter and King of Fighters. The credits don't go towards graduation and is merely given for the sake of giving credit unless you need it to fulfill the minimum units for full time student. The class is held by another student, but gives students the ability to hold oddball classes for fun! It is a great idea!
Lol, we never had one of these:
@nycredude
I'm sorry I offended your fanboy dreams that the PS3 isn't perfect. Instead of having a reasonable discussion, you are just diverting attention from the problem by assuming things about others. It just shows you are clueless.
@jadenkorri
I don't think I need to prove anything to you, since you are obviously an idiot. The poll below shows that people care about PS2 BC. Enough said, I don't want to waste my time discussing with a delusional Sony fanboy in...
If you don't use it, get rid of it. Doesn't matter if it is the 360 or PS3. Technology drops in price and PS3 will probably drop later this year. By then you can get a new one for what you sell yours now.
Selling it when KZ2 comes out might fetch a little extra, but KZ2 looks damn good!!!
yeah, they got burned with Rare. I don't mind the fact that they no longer own studios. In fact, it seems like their model is fund development to outside 3rd party studios and own the IP.
A lot of times, when you integrate a new studio into a large corporation, the creativity takes a dive not to mention the studio is only as good as it's people. People leave and many of Rare's staff probably already left. Keeping the company outside of MS, yet hold on to the IP seems to be an exc...
Yeah, last I checked MS had $20 billion cash and a profitable quarter (albeit lower than Wallstreet forecast). They aren't going anywhere, and the lowered price will spur adoption of the console while they can reap it back in profits from games. Doesn't make sense to buy a console and no games, unless you are the Wii.
However, we haven't heard much about the 2009 lineup for MS.
I'm agreeing with Agent VX here. If there is one feature that I care the most about it was the PS2 BC on the PS3. Now, if I want to play PS2 games, I'm stuck buying a new console, a new memory card and play with a corded controller and another unit connected to my TV. I would like to play MGS1-3, God of War 1-2 among others.
This is the wrong direction and does anyone remember how Sony stressed the importance of BC only to release it with gimped BC in Europe and then finally re...
Props to KZ2 for beating most games on the list, but it was beaten by Mario Tennis which isn't even out until March. WTF is going on? I would understand if it was beaten by SFVI or RE5 or something of that cailber, but Mario Tennis in March? D@mn Wii!!!
The summary above is incorrect, their profits slipped about 700 million dollars, but they are still in the positive. Profit went from expected 4.71 to actual 4.17 billion.
This is a smart company that cuts jobs in advance instead of holding onto dead weight. However, I'm suprised how drastic the cuts are though for a company with so much cash and still in the positive.
When was the last time Intel made a GPU capable of competing with nvidia or ATI?
I call this bogus story, why would a company seriously support an unsupported technology unless as the story says Sony was bought out after being bruised so badly with the ps3. Still Larrabee is unknown and somewhat unproven technology. Nvidia and ATI have spent decades making graphics cards.
