I NEVER said that retailers sell consoles at a loss.

It is a well known that retailers don't make **MUCH** profit on consoles. As I said retailers generally make money selling accessories, games and warranties.

Retailers barely make any profit not to mention the cost of stocking the product which means at best a break even point.

Wii Markup(keep in mind that the Wii since release has been profitable for each console sold for Nintendo):

Embrace it and move on. Chances are real developers like Infinity Ward will make proper use of motion controls.

The rule with motion control for hardcore gamers should be at a minimum:

"If it is easier to do with a button press and it doesn't introduce new game play elements, don't introduce motion controls."

Examples:

a) KZ2 bomb placement with ...

I think people misunderstood my comment. It wasn't intended to suggest Sony should go for the casual market, but rather simply say if they wanted to they need to do this (isn't it evident that Sony/MS would rather switch place with Nintendo?)....

Clearly motion controls aren't used in too many hard core games, and when they are they tend to feel all gimmicky i.e. KZ2 bomb placement although the sniper rifle movement was pretty cool.

Both MS and Sony is looking t...

It's gouging, because we all know GameStop gouges their customers!

1) Sony is releasing basically a refresh with **very** minor updates with arguably lesser features. The DSi released with most of the features intact from DS except for GBA slot which is fairly old by now. Notice how Nintendo supports backwards compatibility for a long time like Sony used too.

2) The issue for me is the abrupt change. Suddenly there is no option to get a physical format and you are forced to buy DD only. It should be like consoles, a choice until people get mor...

The issue is that hardware doesn't make much if any for the retailer. What they make money off is accessories and games. The latter which sells considerably more than the former.

This is a natural step forward, perhaps retailers can sell more digital codes for games and points. Besides we will always need retailers to sell console games that aren't always practical to download (i.e. the PS3 at the moment and multiple discs games on the 360).

I still think that So...

Problem is Sony has to change the perception of:

a) PS3 is a luxury high tech item

b) PS3 is for movie enthusiasts and/or hardcore gamers

c) Change the color to something a little casual friendly

d) Lower the price to compete with the Wii

If Sony wants a piece of the casual market they got a long ways to go. Although value is debatable, the got to start with the price moving it into the casual range.

When they are saying "free" they are referring to content, not the bandwidth that most of us are paying to the ISP.

This might very well be true to some degrees, but it had to be a long slow process or many many companies coming together and making a stand. Likelihood is small in my opinion. The current model seems to work, and we are moving towards more user generated content. Who knows, these might replace the big ol corporation....

Looks like the 360 would have fit the bill perfectly, no Wifi and can't play online with Gold Subscription!

Jokes aside, what the heck are inmates doing with PS3's in the first place. Convicts sit on their @ss play video games while my tax dollars are supporting them. They should be used as skilled labor in factories or something. At least they learn some skills and contributes back.

"Square-Enix is clearly targeting 30FPS for the game, but it is falling some way short in certain scenes and that’s generally down to the bewildering range of transparent alpha effects employed in the combat. This generally doesn’t tend to be so much of an issue for 360 (thanks to the daughter module of 10MB eDRAM connected directly to the GPU), but it can hit PS3 hard. The solution is generally to employ a lower resolution buffer for these effects (a...

This is why a think a grading scale such as A, B, C and so on is much better system (at least for the US).

A numeric score is too fine grained to reflect the opinionated reviews i.e. is a 8.9 game better than a 8.7? What about it makes game A 0.2 better than game B? Also anything below 80% is automatically considered negative which further exacerbate the problem with misunderstandings.

Perhaps a solution is to use the 5 star system: poor, bad, average, good and excel...

"I wouldn't know the specifics. I'm too busy playing my games."

Then why are you being a troll here and posting stuff you have no clue about. I guess ignorance is a bliss.

You are going on my ignore list.

Sorry, but Sony does not have a higher game attach rate. The sources you are giving is specific to some titles. On average, the 360 has the highest game attachment of any console existent period.

This is even more remarkable when you consider all the second consoles people bought after RROD....

In fact, a lot of the early adopters of the PS3 bought it as a blu-ray player so that will hurt the PS3 attach rate.

Un-copy protecting savegames is not the solution. The solution is to tie the save games to the PSN account, not the console (as well). Could it be that they don't do this since PSN account is not required?

I don't think this applies to the Xbox as I used my hard drive with the save games on different 360s.

Unfortunately, removing copy protection invalidates others hard work in getting trophies though... This shouldn't be allowed.

Unfortunately a business is also measured in how it continues to grow and not only how it does relative to competition. In fact, I would rather invest in a growing and profitable business as opposed to a shrinking profitable business even if it is much larger.

If it is profits are slipping, the company needs to find a way to increase sales (or should I say profit).

Ohhh... another blow is the internal battery. It is not customer replaceable (at least without voiding your warranty).

What are they thinking? 3-4 hours battery life and you can't replace it yourself. I really don't understand the whole internal battery thing Sony got going. That is one of my gripes on the PS3 DualShock 3 controller as well.

In my opinion, the price! I mean common, the device is smaller, has bluetooth, wifi and have a hard drive now instead. That's it! For that, you are being charged a premium of $80 off retail price of regular PSP.

It might be priced relatively fair to other devices, but it is not in regards to the regular PSP.

I don't think this thing will sell and the price will drop within months. Then again Sony was able to push sales of PS3 at minimum of $400 each.....

To me it is no surprise that PS3 is able to keep up in sales. What is surprising is that with 3 markets in their favor (i.e. 3 markets that have embraced their system in the past with no barriers such as Japan), 140+ million users accustomed to the PS brand and dominating completely in the last two generations, Sony still managed to only match the Xbox 360 in sales this generation.

These numbers can be spun either way depending on the metric, but reality is:

a) Sony...

Although Pachter is often times wrong, at a minimum he gives a good reasoning unlike fanboys so I find him much more interesting.

What the article also highlight (and what I pointed out in the past) is that the loss could be higher $700 million or so if the cut is a $100 instead, but I don't think a $50 cut is enough. In that case, they might as well hold out until they can give a $100 cut instead IMO.
