Instead of adapting current game play and move entirely over, how about new game play? Heck, what about combining them?
Why does it have to be one or the other?
As long as developers follow the one rule, I think we will be ok?

I didn't say PS brand is insignificant. Besides a price cut will likely only incur a TEMPORARY increase in sales not permanent.
Don't forget that PS3 had a boost in sales due to sales as a stand-alone blu-ray player . Also don't forget that the gap in between the two consoles is about the same as MS first year sales.
In the same time frame, MS and Sony sold about the same amount of consoles worldwide (including MS crippled market in Japan). That is not exactly a fe...
Nice article, although there were at least one spelling mistake. Spell checker?
I don't see how MS will ever introduce a slightly more powerful Xbox, because I'm not sure who would benefit from that.
I didn't even see quote in that news posting... for that matter to make that even believable. That is even worse than a quote taken out of context if you catch my drift.
Besides why would MS (or should I say CEO of MS) announce a new console in that manner. Anyone that believes that are ignorant or clueless.
I guess the question boils down to will your mom play FF13 or GoW3?
There is half your answer right there.
or Sony's stupidity to invest into this game as a timed exclusive... lol.
I think this illustrates a point. Clearly any company would want their product well received. I think as a small studio they just had massive issues adapting to the PS3 niche architecture. The power of the PS3 is backfiring.
They should have from a business perspective just dumbed down the 360 version and nobody would have been the wiser.
You got increase in sales and shrinking in sales in the largest gaming market.... I think I will choose the former from a business perspective.
That is your opinion and ignorant assumptions.
Clearly the Ghostbuster thing you can tell the difference and as I said before it isn't about console war (as you seem to keep directing it towards), but the support of shoddy work, but hey you seem to be content with it so I guess you deserve shoddy work.
I never said that HD content isn't discernable, rather I don't think it is worth the extra cost at the moment. I don't feel like paying $30 for a 2-hour blu-ray movie....
dartv has some good points, except Sony and MS is fighting for 2nd place. The Wii selling at the current rate is not going to get eclipsed any time soon. MS would have to increase their sales 3-4 times and Sony well.... 5-6 times just to match Ninty's sale right now in the US.
Most 3rd parties are now multi-platform. First party games has shown (especially for Sony) that they don't tend to move consoles while MS has is unproven if it does or not. So I really don't see anything ch...

Seriously, MS has tens of thousands of employees. You don't think they are a great place to work at? Think again!
I have multiple friends that work there and very happy.
On a different note, I like Schappert. He seemed like a down to earth kind of guy.
So far announcements have been weak. Trophy patch would be awesome, but....

I think he illustrates a point. Most consumers don't consider the increase in price justifiable when DVD has acceptable picture quality.
Case in point, myself. I own a 1080p Sony TV, PS3, 2x Xbox 360 and a Wii. I have a HTPC hooked up to my TV and a DVD player. If it weren't for the PS3, I wouldn't have bought a blu-ray player simply because the increase in quality isn't worth the cost for me and DVD is adequate.
In addition, if you go into a store these days you a...
True that 72% increase is good sales increase if you use growth as a margin, but blu-ray is in a different category as it success is dependent on market penetration of Blu-Ray players.
To put it in contrast, 400k players in a quarter is less than 150k/month. That is barely what the Xbox 360 sells in a low sales month in market that is vastly bigger!
Somehow I don't see a 150k extra a month is going to increase blu-ray discs sales by 300% going from 24 million to 80 m...
@m55afir
"By 2012, around 50 per cent of US and 35 per cent of Western European video disc retail sale volumes will be Blu-ray."
That is an estimate, not necessarily reflecting facts. In fact 100 million blu-ray discs is estimated to be sold in 2009 (expecting over 300% increase from last year, 2008, of around 24 million). That assumes at least 3 fold increase every year from now until 2012. Not impossible, but certainly not easy.

Personally, I would rather pay for and play a GOOD 5-hour game (MGS4 for instance) than a crappy 15-hour game!
Take your pick!
or you can just not support shoddy work.
