How could anyone really hate you for THAT??? Certain areas of EA are notoriously weak (the sports franchises are usually pointed at). However, as a whole, EA has managed to obtain several franchises that "have legs" in the industry. They single-handedly smashed the Tony Hawk franchise to the point where TH had to re-tool (finally...as I was a fan). They brought out Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Bad Company, Burnout Paradise, upped their own ante with Fight Night 4, made NHL 09 (which t...

GTA Chinatown is a departure from what PSP users are used to with Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories, but who knows, it may just be the GTA names that makes it sell through.

Think that we kind of proved the premise of this article...which was to prove to whoever this "TERRY" is that "PlayStation has stuck to the quality over quantity model for its downloadable service". The top 5 is surely not enough...AND the variety of experiences is there to appeal to a multitude of different gamers. Once again, this was one man's opinion of his top 5 favorites.
By the way...Mine are...in no particular order....

Sony has to make a BIG move. One that is unprecedented in it's history...due to it's unprecedented losses in the market. This push is not just from a videogame standpoint. They are also planning to blitz with lowering TV's, Laptops, and even their MP3's. The company needs profits to increase so that shareholders will feel secure in owning a bit of the Sony future. As for the colliding of PSP and PS3...I don't believe they see handhelds competing with consoles. Therefore, it is not out of the ...

In JAPAN, which is notorious for it's space saving and ergonomic mentality, the PS3 Slim WILL move units. This has been proven with the previous iterations of Playstation, as well as the DS lite and PSP 3000 (slim).

At the SAME time...many companies, like Sony and Microsoft, DO actually invoke these same type references in their businesses. They DO use terms like "assault" and "attack" and yes even "war". No doubt it might be considered sophomoric or insensitive, but the fact that they use this language belies another important point. These businesses ARE at war for the "almighty dollar". They go to their "war rooms" and strategically plan their "off...

Think that length will be somewhat like other action/stealth titles. You can rush through...or take your time and set up all sorts of Batman style scenarios. Plus, the "time trials" will add some replay value...then if you have the PS3 there are the Joker trials added. Sounds like it should be worth $50. Plus, it's been a LONG TIME since I have seen video game journalists so excited about a superhero game....especially after having several "hands-on" demos. Only the last W...

Even more so, I don't think that Sony really felt that it was a viable commodity. R & D goes on in these companies all of the time, but there must have been someone at Sony that didn't go ahead a greenlight any projects based on the tech. Nintendo had it's back against the wall and just said "what the hell", threw caution to the wind, and did it. Remember, no one was REALLY worried about Nintendo in this generation. Thus, all of the buzz that was...and still IS around MS and Son...

Long ago...when I was just a youngster, they did teach basic programming. It was a great way to teach logic and problem solving for those that liked programming. I recall learning on a program called LOGO!!!! (yeah I just dated myself) However, the design approach might be an easier, and more accessible way of communicating logic, decision making, and even basic game theory to a younger audience that is already bombarded by it in their everyday life. Since most of them will probably have been...

IMO I don't see the Iphone completely taking over the handheld market. However, it will probably carve it's own niche in the gaming industry. Simple games, simple interface, great mainstream penetration for the device itself make it attractive. Plus, it has to be pretty cheap to develop a game for it. If anything, the DS and PSP will probably try to emulate the business model seen on Iphone by focusing on simpler, cheaper (yet still fun) properties for their various devices.

The coding for the PC and 360 are not altogether different. Therefore it wouldn't be that much, in terms of monetary resources, to have both. Maybe, they have decided that they need there devs to concentrate solely on 360 (after all of the dev changes) to meet their quality expectations upon release??? Just a thought.

LBP should have led this list obviously. There isn't another game this gen that allows you to take a platformer and recreate it to your desire. Not only that, but to deconstruct the genre, and come up with whatever from presentations (Sony Press Conference), to people creating crazy (albeit maybe useless) stuff like platform calculators and pianos! This coming from a person that doesn't own the game, but played it numerous times with friends.

Flower MIGHT NOT be your cup of tea, but there was innovation in the sense of what kind of game it was. It was an extremely risky venture into a game that is basically about bringing some dumb flowers to life. BUT, I can't think of any other game like it!

Milking is "as inevitable as the tides". Companies will milk a franchise until the powdered remnants remain. This is because the consumers, i.e. gamers, continue to support and even flaunt these titles without question. If several sequels of a game are released and they are ALL quality titles, then it's not really milking IMO. However, once the property loses it's inherent value (quality) milking rears its ugly head. Milking appears when a story is stretched beyond comprehension fro...

I AGREE that there is going to be another fall (maybe even crash) of the industry. However, the cause will probably be more multifactorial than just creativity. I think the rising cost of development, the merging of technology almost to a point where there is no differential between the consoles, and the need for more creativity will drive this fall. That being said, as someone stated before, the movie and music industry have been able to survive this same trend. This has not entirely been ba...

It does pretty much look the same, as the engine is probably not going to change. But, as King Arthur stated, that is what happens to most games. It is extremely expensive for devs to create entirely NEW engines for this generation of games. However, the good ones have been able to refine the gameplay that the engines can put out. THIS is what I am looking forward to. Ideas that might have been scrapped due to previous constraints tend to show up in the better sequels. Only time will tell, bu...

I actually put MORE time into the first BF than I did on COD4!!! I know that is considered blasphemy in some realms, but to me being able to play in vehicles added another dimension to the game. I hope that BF 1943 will bring more people toward the franchise because it was absolutely great the first time around.

The comments made about the PS3 DO have precedent in both the original Playstation and the PS2!!! IF you recall, the better looking games started hitting these consoles when they were supposed to be on the way out. Playstations have been notorious for developers, especially 3rd parties, taking a while to get a grips with how to milk the architecture for what it is capable of doing. With new middleware and engines springing up from all over the development community, the best of the PS3 is yet...
