Regardless of whether or not we know their release date, it's pointless to nominate 'Contendors' for 2013 GOTY when absolutely none of these games has even been released yet.
It's hard to say since they're pretty close, I'd say Dark Souls is better simply because you can no longer farm healing herbs and spices.
Though Demon's Souls had a giant flying manta ray that shot giant spikes which I took down with a magical wind sword...
They're both such great games that chances are which you like better is going to come down to the nuances.
Ummm there was a pretty big one this year that allowed you to shoot a kid in the head...
Not saying you're wrong about the motive being unrelated but it does happen.
Same, I'm surprised they don't have them on dedicated handhelds already considering you can play it on an iPhone.
For Borderlands 1, a lack of foreshadowing/proper storytelling can be a cause and the poor ending was the symptom. If you don't properly portray what you're doing in the story, pulling a twist at the end will just confuse people instead of wowing them.
I never played LA Noire, so I won't comment on that, but I found RDR lacking. Maybe it was because the story was stretched out too long before it reached it's destination. It was powerful, I'll give it that,...
RotKs epilogue was a bit long, but you can never argue that it didn't bring closure. We knew how everyone ended up after their adventures (years afterwards in some cases) and you left the movie/book feeling satisfied that this story is over.
While I sort of agree with what you're saying, I have a very hard time taking anyone using the word "sheeple" seriously.
Well to be fair, The Witcher 2 released in 2011, the port for 360 and the bonus content was 2012 so for a lot of people it may not 'count'.
Fantastic game (both 1 and 2) though, if I hadn't already played it in 2011, I'd probably be debating whether I liked Persona 4 Golden or The Witcher 2 better this year.
It is a space sim, and it's nice to see one in this day and age, whatever the style. Freespace 2 is a game I still go back to regularly.
Agreed, metro 2033 was a gem, and it looks like they've kept the same haunting atmosphere that made the first game so great.
"So if attractive, well-groomed people have been around forever in these mediums, why is it a problem?"
Never said it was, like I said it when their attractiveness becomes the definining point of their character that I have a problem.
A) Is that a sociological cliche or a storytelling cliche though? In stories this trope is very common, in real life, past high school, I've seen good looking people with great personalities, as well as less attrac...
Would I want to play a person with bad acne or bone degeneration? Sure, if you could work that into a compelling narrative, that's good ground for drama, I'd love to see a game where you play Joker from ME. In general, people in TVs/Movies/Games being well groomed/able bodied is something that has always been around, and is also far from the point I am making. I'm not saying our protagonists should necessarily be ugly, I'm saying their attractiveness shouldn't be their def...
And how many of them are routinely yelling for women online to "Get back in the kitchen"? Sexism = Funny is a cardinal rule of most online shooters I've found.
The difference versus creative media and real life is that we aren't just looking, we're shaping the character into whatever we want. There's nothing wrong with having a libido, but having the entire industry assume we are dominated by our libido, assuming we can't like or relate to a female character unless she's some kind of sexy action girl, is just as demeaning to men as it is to women.
If it was an issue in just a few games, then I'd agree it isn&...
There's a big difference between the ending not ruining the game, and it being the best game of the year.
This year wasn't amazing, but there were still many titles that delivered better overall experiences than ME3.
I don't care if they make more Pokemon games as long as they start to change things. I can't think of a franchise that has evolved less over such a long lifespan. There really hasn't been any big changes to the formula since I played Red on my GameBoy Color back in the 90s and I find that incredibly lazy.
Xbox got it this year for the first time.
Funny that two of the best games I played this year, Witcher 2 EE and Persona 4 Golden, are re-releases.
I thought swtor launched last year...sometime in early december if I remember right.
That's what happens when you pull out all the stat mechanics and skills choices and instead make every same level character identical except for their gear...
Granted it took awhile to level up a character in D2 but it was always fun to try out new and possibly stupid builds instead of giving us every single spell just for leveling up.
You do realise what racism is right? As in discrimination based on race, not nationality.
You could argue that the violence was worse in CoD2, but there is a big difference between white psychopaths shooting up white civilians, and a white heroic protagonist with arms the size of melons killing hordes of African tribals throwing spears at you from their swamp huts...
