Actually, if you check steam on the PC you will find many indie games like these going back to the arcade roots.
But many of the real gems from "forgotten genres" can also be found on places like XBLA. Just check the recent crop from the past two months:
Platform - Rayman 3 HD, South Park: Tenorman's Revenge
Scrolling shooters - Shoot Many Robots, Sine Mora
Beat'em'up - Shank 2, The Simpsons Arcade Game
Tactics - Defenders of Ardan...

Ahh, the amazing Power Stone. How come Capcom never bothers to bring this franchise to the current generation with proper online etc? It would have been a killer.

And Agent. It was promised years ago already.

It's also nice to see how well the Borderlands franchise picked up. I loved the first game but didn't realize it's going to be that popular

Microsoft is not even related to the development or publishing of this title. It's a Terminal Reality game (last franchise they butchered was Ghostbusters) and published by Lucasarts.

And to tell the truth, Lucasarts are to blame for the demise of Star Wars ever since Jar Jar in general. Not to mention they're also responsible for butchering the classic adventure games, and rushing KOTOR 2 out of the gates.
Their latest games are abominations (let's not fo...

List includes Starhawk, Diablo 3, Max Payne 3, Ghost Recon, Sorcery, Risen 2 and Dragon Dogma.

Don't bother clicking through a badly designed site with 3 pages lacking any actual description for 7 games.

If "Sluggish start" refers to this whole generation lifespan, it's even more ridiculous because:
a) This generation is near its ending already
b) It has already surpassed the past generation by a twofold at least.

As for steam, it doesn't accurately track the number of hours in ALL games, so Skyrim is not different from MW3 and any other game. But I was talking about game sales which are being accurately measured, as well as the concurrent us...

This doesn't matter as long as the core industry is still getting bigger. The share of the core in the pie is smaller just because the pie itself got much bigger over time. Core consoles games still represent over 50% of the market spending.

Not to mention that Venturebeat couldn't come up with worse examples: They are actually attributing the failures of casual crap like UDraw Studio and merchandized movie tie-in like Thor: God of Thunder to core gaming!? Somebody ne...

They actually call the first quarter of 2012 "sluggish start on the role-playing front" !? ARE THEY MAD?
Mass Effect 3, Kingdom of Amalur and FFXIII-2 - and that's just the high caliber stuff. Excluding ports and handhelds.

Not to mention, to come up with a headline such as "RPGs Are Far From Dead" is just ridiculous... as if we need the 2012 games to prove that point, when at the same time on Steam we can see that Skyrim is still selling more ...

Wow Foliage, you really are a troll huh?
Hawk made a note about an unknown IP which we don't even know how it will play and don't know when it will be released. Why bringing Halo into the equation where it's a completely different topic... a new studio perhaps but people are obviously aware of what it's gonna play like: a Halo game.

But with comments like, "where it is off of hype and millions in ads", "the rest of the other SD Halo'...

@geth1gh,

As much as I do care about quality, there is a certain level where you are getting to a point of diminishing returns.
I mean, I can always ask you how come you're not investing in a quad-card setup and connect it to a 4K 65" TV which sells for arounf 80,000$...

So while NES games obviously don't make the cut (and infact I think that they will actually cost you more now), Xbox 360 and PS3 games mostly offer identical content to t...

Sorry, but 500K just to localize a game that doesn't sound all that promising in the first place... it's just not a good deal. After all, the real hardcore JRPG fans are buying the Japanese version anyway so who's left?
It's not even as if they're localizing an ultra popular franchise, nevermind creating a sequel for a popular game or being backed by some developer star power.

But isn't Ubisoft like one of the only big publishers who actually still makes PC exclusive games?

5080d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Quite the contrary: that standards of people have gone up. Games that were considered to be scary or even classics are now just looking bland.
If one were to play old Resi, SH or Alone in the dark games they will notice that something is "missing".

Although Fatal Frame 2 still gives me the creeps...

While I agree that Crysis 1 beats Uncharted easily tech wise, it is still lagging behind tremendously in things like the animation department (And hardly any game competes with Uncharted there). Animations just look too stiff, but they really improved them in Crysis 2.

However, I still don't understand the "ou can build a rig for a round $500 that will blow consoles away with ease". 500$ is still 300$ over buying an Xbox. And for 300$ you can buy 5 new retail ga...

@darkride66, didn't you bother to read the policy which you copy pasted here yourself!?
"...must ship at least simultaneously with other videogame platforms, and must have at least feature and content parity on-disc with the other video game platform versions..."

Do you understand what "feature and content parity on disc" means?
It has nothing to do with other consoles(console actually) technological strengths. It has to do with the con...
