They can use PhyreEngine..

"Quietly unveiled at yesterday's PSN session was PhyreEngine, a new "free to use graphics engine" from Sony Computer Entertainment. According to the presentation, the package includes full documentation, "70+ samples" and "full source code and artwork" of sampl...

"How is the system not crippled? When they release a game that is 15gigs and 7 of that has to be isntalled to the HDD because the single speed drive in the PS3 cannot read information as fast as it needs to to run the games??? Where is the benefit from Bluray?"

Yep, you don't know what you're talking about... First off, the Blu-Ray drive in the PS3 is a FIRST GENERATION drive. Seek times are the reason, NOT TRANSFER RATE. And just like the original XBox (which had TE...

The alternative source has quite a few pictures of the device and another prototype using a regular webcam and PC.

This is HUGE for health care in rural areas of developing countries, and poor countries. Replacing huge lab equipment costing hundreds of thousands of dollars with something portable, and costing a fraction of what the current lab equipment does.

You just hit on the #1 thing that will slow the adoption of digital distribution... Bandwidth caps.

Bandwidth caps are not common here in the states, yet... Unless you are on a 3G mobile connection (data card from your mobile provider... 5GB is the typical cap for those types of connections).

Cable operators are doing this mainly to protect their own video services. They do not want online HD streaming eating into their profits from PPV movies/events and premium ...

Absolutely. Especially when it only costs $1 more when you sign up for NetFlix to be able to RENT Blu-Ray from them.

So this article's price comparison = EPIC FAIL.

You can either go with NetFlix streaming and get content right away (but at lower quality and limited selection of "HD" titles), or wait a day or so for the Blu-Ray to come in the mail from them (and get top-notch quality with a larger selection).

If anything, NetFlix streaming and...

Yeah... One of the biggest things to bring about the video gaming industry crash back in '83 was craptastic un-licensed games FLOODING the market. It was so hard for your average non-hardcore gamer to wade through the seas of crap to get the few quality titles out there. People lost interest in video games. And the whole E.T. game megaflop put a serious hurting on Atari's bottom line.

The video game industry has come a LONG way since then. It's now a much bigger part of mode...

"Oh and as for DMD or DD failing like blu ray will. Well its already proven that it going no where its been around for 15-20 years"

Really... Digital distribution has been around since 1988? (20 years ago) Wow... I wonder how long it took to download an MP3 at 1200/2400 baud?

Illegal digital distribution of music has been around since 1995. I remember playing around with WinAMP 1.0 back then, and downloading MP3's off of private FTP sites back then. LE...

Most definitely... Heavenly Sword has some amazing facial animation, and characters that truly show emotion. Not to mention Bohan was friggin hilarious...

Unfortunately I remember a while back Ninja Theory saying that there will not be a sequel... Quite unfortunate if you ask me..

Ummm... not quite so for a T4 line...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

A T4 (which is not common at all) runs at 274.176 Mbit/s using 4032 64Kbit/sec channels. That works out to 34.27Mbytes/sec, not 274Mbytes/sec. Remember, there's 8 bits in a byte...

The only carrier type that can give those kind of speeds would be an OC-48 at 2488.32 Mbit/sec (311.04Mbytes/sec).

Now, ...

Halo Wars has the potential to be something special. Ensemble is my personal favorite developer of RTS games... I have spent WAAAAAAY too much time playing the Age of Empires games back in the day...

Yeah... Listing DVD as a reason the 360 will kick butt in 09 is bordering on ridiculous... If PS3 games cost more than 360 games, then I could see that being a valid point...

Personally, I hope that Halo Wars does well. I'm not a big fan of the Halo series, but I am deeply saddened that Ensemble will be dis-banded after this title is done. Hopefully if Halo Wars does well, Microsoft will re-consider closing down Ensemble.

ROFL... That's just as hilarious as a posting I saw in the forums in response to why there are so many PS3 fans on N4G (sorry, couldn't find a link to the thread, and I can't recall who said it...)

THIS IS THE LIBERTY WE'VE WON FOR OURSELVES, OUTER N4G HAVEN!

If there was a "comment of the year" award, both would be in my picks!! ;-)

"You obviously don't have a clue what a unified friends list is."

Well, I obviously have no clue what your definition of a unified friends list is...

Other than a few rogue Konami games, online games on the PS3 use your friends list that is accessible via the XMB (kinda like 360 online games that use your friends list that is accessible via the dashboard).

The only current-gen system that does NOT have a unified friends list is the Wii...

You are correct that nobody knows the future of the PS3. Who knows... If sales do all of a sudden drop to a trickle, then yeah... There's a chance that the PS3 will not be around for the 10 year life-cycle that Sony has planned for it...

But then again, it could see another price drop along with the great lineup for '09 and take off... Nobody knows...

And you are also 100% correct that "So far this gen nothing for Sony has been similar to their first two con...

If that's the case, then you can start expecting 3'rd party devs to start dropping BOTH the PS3 and 360 for the Wii...

The Wii has the largest install base of all three of the current-gen systems... IT PRINTS MONEY!!! ;-)

Funny how all of these PS3 gloom and doom articles always forget to mention that... Yet while the 360 was getting out-sold worldwide earlier this year, you didn't see the media sounding its death toll...

Honestly, Sony will have to drop the price of the PS3 sometime next year. It has already been proven (sales figures from earlier this year) that people do want the PS3. But when a non-gamer parent takes a look at the entry level 360 (arcade) versus the entry level PS3 (80GB) a...
