Actually, that's not necessarily true. My laptop only has a DVD drive in it, yet it can render/output at 1920x1080 with no issues.

What makes a console HD or non-HD is more of a factor of the output resolution the console can handle smoothly.

The 360 is most definitely an HD console. There are countless 360 games that are in 720p and look great.

Just because the 360 uses a DVD drive for its storage does not make it non-HD.

Now the Wii... ...

"What if Nintendo can replicate the online success of Microsoft and Sony?"

A couple of problems with that...

1. Nintendo somehow decided that this "friend code" BS you see on the DS and Wii was the way to go. Now if they change to a more unified system, they will break their older online games (like Mario Cart, Super Smash Brothers Melee, Mario Strikers, etc.)

2. It's freaking Nintendo... The GameCube had an ethernet adapter avail...

Things like this are why I'm a PROUD Linux user, and have been for over a decade.

Although if Microsoft is actually hosting the applications, then maybe they could actually fix their software in a much more timely fashion. ;-)

The one thing that is all too funny about this sudden move to "cloud computing" is that it's practically a throwback to the old mainframe/UNIX Minicomputer days... You access applications hosted on a central server/cluster instead of...

Even if it would hurt the bottom line a little bit, I think a $100 price drop is just what the doctor ordered for the PS3.

Microsoft performed a very well timed price drop to surge ahead this holiday season, and I think that a large loss in market share would hurt worse than a small hit on the bottom line.

The 45nm Cell/65nm RSX units will be coming up this spring. IBM was already ramping up for the 45nm Cell's earlier this year. This means further cost reductions ...

"People said the same thing last year only it was MGS4 and a price drop. Well both of those happened and PS3 was still in last place. Seems every PS3 fanboy thinks Sony will sale 10 million console on the day the drop the price.. You guys couldnt be more delusional."

Hmmmm... earlier this year (you know, after the price cut, and ESPECIALLY after MGS4) the PS3 was OUT-SELLING the 360 world-wide (yes, even in the USA). But I guess all of those people buying the PS3 were...

I whole-heartedly agree...

When you see that the PS3 has sold more consoles at two years on the market than the 360 did (even with the 360 having NO COMPETITION for the first year on market), and the fact that it is only a few million behind the 360 (despite the 1 year head start, and a massive price cut on the 360 this fall), you see that IT'S NOT DOING THAT BADLY.

And the Wall Street Journal talking about how now there's the chance of third party developers LEAVING...

If these people that make a living following the money are suddenly saying ps3 is about to tank. It's best to listen and not pretend to be some sort of armchair financial analyst."

"It doesn't say it's doomed, just that it's in a distant third place (which is a fact, unless of course the ever increasing 7.5 million is somehow insignificant). Whoever said the PS3 will overtake the 360 this year is delluded. The gap is currently increasing significantly in favour of the 360, so how are they suddenly gonna sell 7.5 million while the 360 sells 0?"

Well well now... If it wasn't for Microsoft's last price drop, there would have hardly been any gap for ...

Amen to PS2 HARDWARE BC coming back...

I'm hoping when the PS3 slim comes out that Sony offers a cheaper model (preferably $299.99) without PS2 BC, and a higher-end slim model with full hardware PS2 BC (like the 20GB and US/Jap 60GB models did).

Once you have seen a game like God of War 2 running upscaled to 1080p on a PS3, you'll be hooked on PS2 games again.. ;-)

And as far as the article talking about a model WITHOUT Blu-Ray... That would make as mu...

Namco has been wh0ring out to Microsoft this generation... Both Katamari Damacy and Ace Combat were previously PS exclusives that are both currently 360 exclusives. And both of them have sold like CRAP on the 360.

Beautiful Katamari - 0.36 Million sold

Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation - 0.60 Million sold

And as far as Tekken going multi-platform, I guess that's just business. Although you can get arcade sticks for both consoles, and have a REAL Tekke...

I hear ya on that (I'm running Vista Ultimate on my 20" iMac ;-), but I have run into enough funky issues with Vista to keep me from completely warming up to it.

The latest ATI Catalyst drivers have killed DRM on my Vista install, which is enough to keep Rhapsody from working. On my Acer Aspire 5674 running XP SP3, the latest ATI Catalyst drivers do not have the same issue.

And about the only thing I use Windows for is Microsoft Office, and Rhapsody (for my San...

I have seen postings talking about issues with the Blu-Ray drive (either the spindle doesn't spin, or the laser diode burns out), and I'm having a little bit of an issue with my 80GB Motorstorm bundle PS3 not recognizing Blu-Ray discs, but will play DVD's and CD's with no problems.

With mine, running a DVD lens cleaner disc through it will fix the issue for a little bit, but I think it will take a thorough cleaning to resolve (mine is just outside of the 1 year warranty, and I do...

This is more than likely the same 'ol SmitFraud malware that has been going around.

I just can't wait for the authorities to catch up with the d0uch3b4gs responsible for this, and nail them on fraud, extortion, and racketeering charges (all felonies).

Issues like this need to be handled by law enforcement. Tech savvy PC users are usually fine, but I shudder to think of how many non-technical PC users fall victim to this extortion scheme on a daily basis.
