Make sure you add stuff to your download list through a PC. e.g. I have LBP2 on disc, but added to my download list in case I lose the disc :=)

Everybody here likes to say that gameplay > graphics, yet there's a lot of disagrees when someone says s/he prefers 60fps over 1080p (former effects gameplay positively helluva lot more than latter.)

Yes, the /s takes the fun out of sarcasm. But most people don't get it, even you go to extremes with exaggeration. Don't even bother with being subtle.

This is getting hotter and hotter (and we are probably helping it get hotter right now) but articles like this should not be tolerated. There's nothing wrong with the content but the title is specifically designed (although not cleverly) to get hits, while the content is not related with the title at all.

They are not talking about instantly starting a game, they are talking about not having to require any load screen mid-game. A game is first loaded (indeed, it would take a while), then you won't see loading screens. It is achieved through streaming.

For example, Uncharted 3 improved streaming to the point that you won't be greeted with a textureless mess even if you skip cutscenes. That game loads the required assets once, and never shows you a loading screen from th...

Also the features mentioned are supported by the PS4 (downloads / updates during standby, quick power on..)

Just wanting attention. It has Wii U, PS4 and Xbox720 in the title, seems to cover every ground. Yet the article doesn't even have PS4 or Wii U inside the article.

Not cool indeed.

@mastercornholio:
If Mark Cerny is to be believed (I do) they could have integrated the cell into PS4 for backwards compatibility, they can produce them as much as required. However, he mentioned there would be problems supplying material from other vendors. (Nvidia, Rambus, ?? )

Interesting, as developers, according to this post, can use the Xbox360 SOC for additional computing power for Xbox720. That would be a very clever use of the SOC.

I wasn't the disagreer, btw.

I don't understand how the touchpad would be awkward. People have been using touchpads on their laptops forever. Click / drag has always been a problem with older touchpads, but PS4's touchpad does a physical click, so there's that problem sorted.

Having a screen for the DS4 would be very pointless, as it would massively drive the controller price up while being useful only in a few scenarios. We'll have second...

Well, PS4 does have a touch pad. Also, instead of pointing and shooting, the position of your controller may be represented on screen as a selector and you could your controller slighty to move the selector... I'm just brain storming in my couch.

When PS3 launched in Turkey, it was about 1500TL (840 usd, todays rate!). Currently, PS3 slim 12GB sells for 550 TL (310 usd). I think Brazil is also one of the places with very high hardware costs, similar to Turkey.

I'm hoping PS4 doesn't launch for more than 1000TL in Turkey! (Tho currently, 500GB PS3 sells for about 850TL bundled with a game)

^this.

I'm not sure Sony would allow a keyboard / mouse only game, but, it really should. The game should make it very clear that it does not support gamepad, tho. It's not that improbable, we have games that require move, we have games that have "move features". The same principle could be applied.

I think 50GB blurays will do fairly well. Currently, a good portion of the blurays may be used for duplicate data for more efficient streaming without optical head seek penalties etc. Also, instead of high quality video, games may well resort to real-time cutscenes (MGS has realtime cut-scenes for the most part, tho). I remember uncharted having different cutscene video files for 3d, for example, which also added quite a bit of size.

4799d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

Yeah, no more having to resort to pre-rendered cut-scenes to be able to load the next level, all cut-scenes can be dynamic. Having so much ram will offer new gameplay possibilities. Open world games will be able to do split screen, for example, thanks to the excessive amount of RAM. You could instantly jump between totally different levels of a puzzle platformer, levels with totally different textures / assets, as several levels could be held in the RAM at once. All the greatest stuff will su...

@People thinking you will start playing stream from Gaikai. This doesn't make sense as the Gaikai stream will choke the bandwidth so much the actual game will not be able to download. If you have a fast connection that can do both, you may as well wait half an hour to download the whole game.

What will happen is, after minimum amount of data for starting the game is downloaded, the game will start. No gaikai streams, I assure you. Some type of games can really make good u...

This is all up to the developers. What the next gen consoles will do is to allow developers to let players start their game after necessary amount of data is downloaded. This will be possible as the underlying game OS will be providing them with the necessary "hooks" to the download mechanism of the consoles. The devs will probably be able to arrange and mark contents within the download archive and know precisely how much of the required parts have downloaded, courtesy of the conso...

I hope games on the PS4 don't cost more. After all, it is supposed to be easier to develop for. Tho it is likely the publishers may try such a pricing model.

@Xyla: PCI-Express does not seem to be a bottleneck, because developers make sure they avoid transferring data through the pci-express to the best of their ability. Latest GPU's have immense computing power but those are not being used properly yet. That's why PCI-Express 3 won over PCI-Express 2 only by a small margin. If every PC that the devs targeted had PCI-Express 3, the devs might have provided with different and maybe more efficient problems. It will be quite some-time before ...

For me, the illusion breaks as soon as a character start running AT the wall, no matter how good the graphics are. They need to fix that first :)

Guys.. I'm a PS fan, but all he says is:

"with speed we’re running our physics simulation at on this generation, the mind boggles at what is possible with the new tech. We will no doubt be taking the same approach to next gen – examining each area of a title and seeing what can be achieved."

And then the blogger turns this into:
"By next gen tech he obviously means the PS4, since that’s the only console that has been announced so fa...
