For my dollar the first xbox dominated the competition in alot of ways (obviously not in sales). But the xbox did have a built in hard drive, internet, and superior hardware specs. Remember the ps2 still used memory cards and you had to buy an online adapter.
The slide pad is decent, but not as a good as a normal analogue stick. The glaringly obvious problem, is the lack of 2 of them for playing 3d games.
It seems like a such a no brainer to use 2, its pretty confounding how the decision was made to have only 1. Boogles the mind really.
Netflix and Redbox charge extra if you rent a blue-ray instead of a dvd, so Id say its pretty certain they will charge for a 3d option.

The only battery packs Ive ever had problems last under several years are the 3rd party ones. And also ALL batteries (power tools, controllers, w/e) should never be left dead for longer then 1 month or you assign the battery pack a slow death with each additional month that passes with no charge.

In either case, I got my kid a 3DS which he does love, but once he beats the game in a few days he just puts it back up on the shelf. Seems to get far more use out of his ipod.

Ya this isnt really much of a big deal from anyway I can see it. I mean it does offer 2 very minor advantages, but idk.
1.) you could save on renting additional cable boxes for spare rooms.
2.) you could still stay socially connected to Live while you watch cable. maybe if your waiting for a friend to log in to play some co-mode.
Its looking like more and more of a odd niche item that hardcore fps shooters would never adopt.

Ok that I know wont be shared. Apple is obssesively protective of its software and intellectual property. They are always sueing companies for resembling them in some way like a few months ago when they were sueing samsung for making thier tablets retangular shaped with rounded corners.

I dont think having the optional 3G is much of a problem or experiment. However, I think the real issue here that gamers should be ticked off about is that sony went with the worse possible and most expensive carrier in AT&T that doesnt offer unlimited data plans.
