I agree, Gears was the first next-gen game I played which looked next-gen.

They use Gears as a point of reference because it set the bar for third-person cover shooters. I don't know how many of you actually played Kill Switch, but it was very average. Just room after room of shooting enemies with little to no variation.
The original was way better. To my mind the changes in Twin Snakes (apart from the graphics) were for the worse. Plus I don't think Nintendo would let them use it anyway.
