Screenshots have always looked awesome for this game. The problem is that the actual gameplay videos look nowhere close to those screenshots. The last gameplay video that was shown deflated the hype for a lot of people when it comes to graphics. Muddy textures, bouncy cars, bad foliage and terrible popup were all present.
I just selected some of the screenshots available on the internet. The others do not look much better either. These characters do look like dolls but what do you expect? They are anime characters after all and they have always looked like that. You wont see any skin pores, pimples, wrinkles here. That is outside the realm of anime. They are good because they are neat, smooth, do not have aliasing, accurately represent the 2D art and interact nicely with lighting.

Artistic style and character modeling are two different things. These characters are perfectly fine; infact they are beautifully realized in to 3D from their 2D anime style artwork. Xenoblade Chronicle X's 2D character artwork looks perfectly fine but its realization into 3D is horrible. The facial features, proportions and symmetry are all wrong. LOL! Excellent example wake! Couldnt have said it better. That really sounds funny; Master Chief riding a cart... LOL. Similarly, imagine if Sony released Uncharted Golf, Uncharted Baseball, Uncharted Party, Uncharted Tennis and Uncharted RPG. Looks like SquareEnix has finally regained its senses. Yoicha Wada leaving has really helped the company. The new CEO is not chasing after CoD numbers and westernization of games like Wada. Capcom has also learnt a tough lesson and now releasing Deep Down and SFV on PS4. All the Japanese game companies are coming back home to Playstation. PS4 will be the second PS2.

How would you feel if a Geography teacher gave you an F in your Biology quiz? The person reviewing the test needs to have to necessary knowledge to evaluate it. How can a Geography teacher know if your Biology exam was good or bad? IMO it matters if the reviewers like or understand the intricacies of a genre or not.
Nintendo is one of the most stubborn companies in the world. They always do things their own way, are always late to the party (CDs, HD games, online gaming etc.) and never learn, adapt or change. It is the sole reason of their continued fall from relevance in home console space.
So why check those reviews out in the first place if they are so inaccurate? Are they only reliable when they meet your preconceptions and expectations. Ever considered that the game might not be up to the standards of the reviewer or the hype before the release? Just think for a moment and you might see a bias there.
