Motion Controls are gimmicky if they are on any system affiliated with Nintendo. But not gimmicky if they are on any system not named Nintendo. I've finally understood the logic of N4G.

That lead people to equate Motion Controls equal casual, that was viral marketers and third parties who wished Wii would just go away. Motion Controls aren't "soon to become a major focus for three major companies" it is already a major focus for one company and the other two are following suit.
But when in doubt blame Nintendo.
I don't think Nintendo is in any rush to get to the Next gen. 2012 looks about right. Though I don't think support for Wii would drop so suddenly, I mean it will undoubtedly have sold over 100m consoles by then.
But 2010 is really looking stacked. I get the feeling whatever Retro is working on is big. And I can't wait.
Plus, Nintendo is a very secretive company, who knows what else is in the pipeline.
Is that Third Parties have been so successful on the Wii but haven't put half the resources or effort on their Wii offerings. no GTA's spin off RE's pretty much half assed efforts and still making hands over fist money. Unreal.
Don't care much about Extraction. And EA has taken the Madden Series no where near serious on the Wii. Wii audience wants quality games. It is what we've become accustomed to with Nintendo's first party offerings. Everyone thought Nintendo was stupid for releasing Mario Kart so close to GTA4 and that GTA4 was going to signal the death knell to the Wii...LOL! Good times huh? What happened? MK outsold not just GTA combined but every other multiplatform game on competing consoles.

Price cuts are not going to give a sustained boost. Look at the Slim its already dropped over 60% in one week.
Software is a stronger mover of hardware than price cuts will ever hope to be.
It doesn't matter what PS3 and 360 do. Nintendo has differentiated itself that most consumers that are interested in a Wii aren't going to say "Hey I can get a PS3 or 360 for just 50$ more!" They want a Wii and nothing PS3 or 360 offers will change that.
It's not that a price cut is bad for the Wii or Nintendo, its just that the timing seems very off. It is still the top selling console month in and month out. It even sold more in August than it did in July according ...

You bring up a great point about hype, it only goes so far. Look at the HD games that were hyped to holy heaven only to be out of the top ten the next month.
