Is the best thing about SS. In fact every Zelda should use motion. That is not the problem with Zelda.
It really doesn't. I'm replaying the new zelda now and I can tell you, the Aounuma interpretations of Zelda (OoT aside) really are two different philosophies to game design. The nes game is all about growth, exploration, and combat. Secrets NOT puzzles.
SS has shown me exactly where this disconnect originates; Aounuma's idea of how he wants to define Zelda is different than what Zelda was in its beginnings.
I'd like to see Zelda return to ho...
Agree with you on those points. The gameplay was not the problem with ss, it was the content and how the content wasn't on par with the rest of the game. The stamina meter was a great addition the shield vulnerability was great too.
But come on, the over abundance of text tad tones, Fi, constant handholding, basically 0 exploration. Not my idea of a good time. There is good elements to this game. Don't get me wrong, but it is buried under a lot of irrelevant tasks t...
You need to do is play the original Zelda and then play SS and you will see the disconnect. Zelda used to be about combat, reflexes, and exploration. SS is about Fi telling you your batteries are low.
WW came first, that's what we got. Nintendo fans got the bait and switch. I wasn't 12 years old when this happened. I remember everyone was SHOCKED when WW was first shown, the audience was silent, they could not believe what Nintendo had done with the Zelda series at that point. They expected Zelda to be like the demo showed previously, we got an annoying little cel shaded bastard instead. (Though I like Toon Link in Brawl ; ).
But seriously The backlash was treme...
WW came first. After the fan reaction Nintendo basically rebooted Zelda after WW was met with a lukewarm response. Partially due to the artsyle.
Is a pretty game and I think some of the art works wonderfully. The artsyle isn't the issue with SS the content is.
Too much nonsense to do not enough combat, no exploration. It's a forgettable game.
And WW, people who say its timeless artsyle, please. WW was a huge step back for the series the demo showed was OoT on steroids, we got WW. The fan backlash was so strong Nintendo went back and tweaked the artsyle to become Twilight Princess. Just lo...
A chance to bring the series back to the forefront of excellence. Cut the bs out of it and keep it about the content, the fighting and exploring and growing.
Tadtones? Robots? Kwiki's? Pumpkin Carrying? Wtf? TP had its share of bs too, but not as much as SS.
And for one, quit fucking with the artstyle, keep the final game looking like it did in the demo this time.
Not like they did with us Zelda fans with the spaceworld demo that lo...
Thank you. But I must also commend you on a very well written article. I too was quite disappointed when Nintendo decided to unveil the Wii u. I thought it was too soon as well as a sign of their abandoning of not just the Wii as a platform but as a philosophy as well.
I still am not sold on the system. The content will be the determining factor, not just for me, but the many diverse Wii gamers as well. I'm like the jerry McGuire of gaming right now.

I've been pretty indifferent towards Wii U, up until recently. I've begun warming up a bit to the Wii U with the reports coming from CES. But still, I couldn't care less about the horsepower of this system. I am more interested in the software, and content this console will offer. And on that front we are still in the dark.
I don't fall for hype, so until I see more of the offerings, consider me not sold on this console yet.
I for one thou...
Kinda guy, but the writing is on the wall. I don't know how bad things will or could get, but I do know that things as they are is not so good right now. That can change very quickly either way.
NPD showed that growth is not garuanteed, and it also showed that every console is on the decline. And I think this is because of a lack of fresh content, not hardware limitations or fatigue.
Here is what is troubling. Console manufacturers will be releasing n...
Big misstep here. Portable devices in this day and age should have this option standard.
Though tbh I don't care what there next game is, Zelda Metroid DK, its all good.
WWF/WCW games were the best, ever since then wrestling games have strived for too much realism, and not enough fantasy. WWE has also gone south since the Attitude Era so, don't know the cure to this current monotonous WWE games.
Maybe bring the classics back with updated features like online, graphics etc.
I can say I enjoyed OoT more. But I can see the argument of which is the better game coming down to personal preference.
One thing to remember is that OoT is as close to the classic Zelda's as the 3D titles have ever gotten. post OoT each game has found its self branching off from OoT's skeleton as opposed to looking at the games that shaped OoT's core. NES Zelda's and Alttp.
It does. This is no more apparent with the release of skyward sword. Not so much a reboot as a more back to the drawing board. Zelda has become to fargone from its origins.
Is on the bottom tier of 3D Zelda games. Endless talking, hand holding, monotonous. These are all words I use to describe SS. But it also has fantastic controls and some of the bosses are absolutely awesome. The Giant Scorpion, the multi armed giant sword wielding boss stand out for me.
What Nintendo needs to do is look at Pre OoT Zelda's and follow that structure. Because that is why OoT was so awesome. It only had the NES/SNES to build upon.
But the...
Is this author really trying to compare some largely forgetable game to a 20yr stapled franchise? Who the hell will mention Modnation Racers in 20 years? Hell no one mentions it after 2!
When MK deviates to far from what gamers expect from it, the market responds. Hence why DD was pretty much shunned and MKWii sold over 30 Million!
The one thing modern MK has to improve is the battlemode. They've ventrued to far towards 'every ones a winner' a...
no it's not...
Wasn't too fond of the swimming mechanic in the first place. They didn't let it go to waste, if you take away the tadtone crap, you still had swimming to do in that water like temple. The flow of the game was constantly interrupted by having you always have to go to the isle of songs in the thunder cloud which was unnecessary, again with the over abundance of campy dialogue with uninteresting NPC's, and let's not forget possibly the lamest intro to a Zelda game ever.
