The only game selling on the Wii U is NSMB. NSMB2 is a mediocre game, and 3D Land was not the only catalyst for 3DS it was MK7. Not to mention NSMB2 will eventually outsell 3D Land, despite the differences in resource allotment.

At the point where Zelda games are no longer the gold standard in gaming. I'm amazed Wind Waker and now Skyward Sword are held in such high esteem by the majority of forum dwellers.
The Puzzle-Thon Adventures are beyond tired at this point. The quirky artsyles are annoying and childish. And the attempt at Story telling is amateurish at best.

WW may be loved by many a forum dweller but the market was very cold to WW. And for good reason.
Have you noticed many of the old N64/GC games have become so beloved now? But the market was very cold to them. For example, Majora's Mask is high on many forum dweller lists but its one of the lowest selling Zelda games ever. Mario Kart Double Dash, same thing, Mario Sunshine etc.

Controller was the best one to me. Hell every controller since has pretty much used the SNES as the foundation.
Problems stem from their software choices. No one cares about Yoshi Yarn. And Wind Waker almost killed the Zelda franchise with a crappy art style. HD graphics alone aren't going to change the reception of these games. As They will both fall flat and do nothing for building Wii U's installed base. The Monolith RPG on the other hand looks fantastic.
Nintendo treats the Wii U's VC will be paramount for them moving forward. I hope it becomes a treasure trove of gaming history. No more trickling of titles, just a whole log of old school games, and the ability to play VC games on the gamepad would be excellent. Also tie the games originally purchased on the Wii be able to be transferred to a true Wii U digital account system. That alone would boost the value and content of the system tenfold.
It is Wii U's best game, despite Nintendo's half assing it in many regards. But as far as the NSMB series goes, this is unquestionably the best one.
I hope the Next 2D Mario game Nintendo gives it and its fan the respect they both deserve.

How is Sony safer than Nintendo atm when they posted a loss of $115 million dollars? During a HOLIDAY QUARTER with favorable exchange rates due to the Yen! Nintendo posted profits of $450 million dollars in the same period, which isn't great by any means, but way better than a loss!
