I definitely don't get it. Other websites roundly criticize gg, and 99% of the other media I consume have moved on. If GamerGate ever had a chance to do something positive, and regain PR footing, that is long gone. But, congrats on having found N4G. I love their format. Been visiting regularly for years.

You're kind of freaking me out. This might be angering to you, but it's really not a big deal. The media gets so much wrong on so many issues. Gamers (like myself) don't have the monopoly on persecution from the large profit-driven media outlets. It's tough, but I recommend really trying to think larger context and gg is such small potatoes.
Hell, this isn't uncharted waters. The NFL has done this for years on all their licensed products, footage, etc. This is capitalism at it's finest. Lock down your patent and charge top dollar. This is exactly the process that makes medication is so expensive here in the U.S.
