Please reference the exact article where MICROSOFT stated they would never allow self publishing on X1... Yes, it is all over the place, but most of the articles are whining about a policy MS had for the entire life of the 360.
Second, there are many things designed in to the system that do not appear or are fully used in the first year... For example, the full graphical and processing capabilities don't show up in year one of the generation ...
Just like Sony fanboys vindicated Sony for dropping backwards compatibility on PS3, then selling PS2 titles on PS3 after eliminating the feature that allowed them to play those games, backtracking on dual boot, having a 3 week outage of PSN due to a hack down, still not shipping last guardian and agent, and now it has already started on the PS4 requiring PSN Plus for most multi-player games going forward.
At least MS started restrictive and has let up on those restrictions. ...

Look at the situation... It leaks out now and all the gaming sites will be talking about what this means for weeks. Then, at Gamescon all eyes will be on MS to show what this means...
If MS walks into Gamescon and announces it without a leak, gaming sites report as they have been that it is a 180 and catchup to sony taking away from the announcement.

Many of the most talked about non-exclusive games are essentially current gen titles in a graphical make over.
Watch Dogs, BF4, CoD Ghosts, NFS Rivals, Destiny, etc. Are all going to ship on current gen PS3 and 360 as well. That means from a gameplay and AI perspective they will be very much the same as current gen titles.
Only the titles that won't ship on current gen boxes are truly next gen games.

Yes, most of the stuff I mentioned has been around before the generation, but not on consoles or it was not the reason people bought consoles.
PS: I have gamed in every generation (Yes, I had a Coleco Telstar Colortron), and I did not say it was the best generation... I said it had the most amount of change.

Self publishing is a double edged sword. It definitely means your platform will get more games.
But, on the flip side, what happens when the devt studio that self-published goes bankrupt and therefore won't update the game anymore? The consumer gets screwed for something they paid for.

@OrangePowerz. That is purely speculation. The original X1 plan was online all the time, so they have probably used the entire Blu-ray like GT5 has and they wanted to deliver the content digitally.
As for a patch. Most games have day one or week one patches now-a-days so that doesn't make it a rush to release.

MS has admitted Kinect should not be a core gaming tool. Ryse went from Kinect to controller. And none of the core launch games require Kinect.
Kinect is a tool that can enhance core games through voice primarily. And it is a tool for the casual and fitness crowd.

First, MS is obviously listening because they are changing their policies so both companies are listening.
Second, the best devt talent is in third party, cross platform studios now. Bioware, Rockstar, Respawn Studios (assuming PS4 gets titanfall later), Bungie, Criterion, etc. As for first party, of the top quality studios MS and Sony are decently equal even though I do think Sony has the edge by a noticeable margin.
