As a gold subscriber, I want all the features behind a pay wall. Why should everyone get a bunch of free stuff while I pay?
None of the multi-platform that ship on x360, x1, PS3, and PS4 should be considered next gen games.
Although graphics on the new platform will be better, the core game mechanics are still being achieved on current gen hardware.
Next gen games start appearing in year 2 and 3 of the cycle when devts scrap devt for current gen consoles and only make the games for the next gen consoles. When devts are saying "This game was impossible on the previous gen har...
Family needs have evolved since the PS2. And when I went to buy a PS2, I had to justify the $200+ purchase at the time by selling my girlfriend on the idea it could also do movies.
Which further strengthens my comments.
In the 70's and early 80's gamers were seen as socially incapable nerds that did not fit into society well. In the late 80's and 90's gaming became more mainstream because of the progress of the personal computer into homes. ...
Quite simply gaming is not enough to make a console viable in the long term.
Yes, gaming is the core of what sells consoles to core gamers. But, to sell 150,000,000 consoles and be profitable you have to sell to people that are not gamers as well. Movie fanatics, TV nuts, social gaming, rhythm gamers, exercise enthusiasts, etc. There are not 150,000,000 core gamers. Given sales of games like Halo, CoD, God of War, Unchartered, Mass Effect, Dragons Age, Last of Us, etc. th...
For me, MS has been great.
I had some X360 RRoD issues, but they replaced my consoles that failed through the white coffin program within days.
X360 was very strong at the start of the generation for games while Sony was weaker (not weak, just weaker).
Even though Sony has had more exclusives the past couple of years, X360 has still put out its fair share of exclusives. That doesn't mean that if I bought a Chevy I should go buy a Ford th...
Streaming games is highly overrated. It is fine for smaller and less complex games, but if you really want to push the CPU and GPU of any system, you need a local install or local blu-ray. Streaming just cannot get the data required fast enough in a game such as Call of Duty, BF4, DR3, Forza 5, Ryse, infamous, Killzone, etc.
Also, people talk about wanting to play offline. How do you play offline when your game is streamed?
Even cloud saves become annoying...
It would be bad for gamers if there was no competition for PS4 and vice versa for X1. Both consoles have to be healthy for gamers to benefit.
Last gen, Sony went in not listening well to gamers (dropping BC, dropping dual-boot, PSN was weak at the start, PS3 games were light for the first couple years, etc.) and because the 360 was a strong entry it forced Sony to change for the benefit of consumers.
This gen, MS came in not listening well to consumers and n...
Do I like indie devts? Yes.
Do I pity indie devts that are mis-managing themselves? No.
Indies devts are running businesses just like everyone else. In order to run a business you have to understand all of your revenues and expenses and spend appropriately so you can release your games and fix them as necessary. Screw it up and it is all your fault.
Rather than sucking it up, testing Fez properly through most of the permutations, they sho...
It is simple, to guarantee a certain level of performance for games and multi-tasking side-by-side, you have to tell the devts how much RAM they can use.
No. We will see more games that have more DLC, more micro transactions and more of that kind of BS.
Sure there will be free to play... You will either be bombarded with ads and/or have to play 100's of hours to make any progress in the game without buying your way through.
Until the industry is fixed properly everyone better get used to it...
Not a surprise. Gamescon has more of a games developer/industry focus. You don't talk about the console that everyone knows how to develop on, you talk about the console that people do not have experience with.
Gamers should not care.
There is a trend though...
MS starts off with the worst case and has moved to what people perceive as better ground.
Sony starts off looking perfect and will continually change to the worse ground.
Is it bad that Kinect Rivals is delayed? From a sales stand point probably yes as Kinect titles do best around the holiday season.
Is it good that MS is not releasing a game that is not ready? Absolutely. Sony fanboys will swipe at this no matter what... If MS releases a Kinect game, they are seen as not focusing on the gaming core... They delay it, and all of a sudden it is dumb to bundle Kinect with X1. But, fanboys are fanboys, and many sony games get delayed as well s...
Development and DRM are two completely different things. Just like on a PC how you can do software development, but have stuff like iTunes with DRM.
And they are not opening the platform for modifications. They are allowing development tools and debugging on the platform.
Ever since E3 they have continually talked about many features.
Last gen, Microsoft's competition changed Sony...
This gen, Sony's competition is changing Microsoft...
In the end, it is good for everyone.
You don't just wake up one morning and decide to allow self publishing and that any xbox can be used as a development tool.
That requires planning and building of development tools and policy changes that have to be approved through the xbox organization. Significant procedure and process changes as well. What I think happened is that MS looked at the feedback from last gen and decided to do this about a year ago. They new it would not be ready for launch, hence why no...
@s45gr32
They really don't have a choice when it comes down to Sony or MS. MS is the only one truly offering casuals anything between the two right now.
As for the Samsung Smart TV stuff... I have it... It is ok, but I never use it. The UI is really slow and picky.
Agreed. The only thing that Sony has showed so far that is new is improved graphics on infamous and Killzone...
Everything else is either evolutionary changes or not registering.
You get what you pay for...
Yep, one person says it and publishes it as a news article...
It must be true and apply to everyone on the planet!
(Lots more sarcasm)
The only reason anyone buys a PSN+ account is for the free games. At least MS makes sure that Gold members have a substantial amount of services unavailable to silver members. The only real difference between PSN+ and PSN on the PS3 is free games / discounts.
Sony cooked up the idea, because they needed to start charging for PSN to support it, and pulled the wool over gamer eyes giving them free games to get them on board. Before the free games almost no one bought the PSN...
