My guess they will design a lot of games to use touch screen so doubt that would be an option. Down the road they might make a smaller version though.
You can't just magically tether 2 devices together via USB and suddenly more powerful console. All of the power on the console would have to be on the handheld. They may include a wireless HDMI Adapter but it won't make the console more powerful (also your idea would cost a ton, Nintendo is unlikely to do that given their past history).

I think Nintendo may be on to something with their new Handheld if it can hook up to the TV. Might do a lot to revive the console market in Japan as long as they can make it seem worthwhile to own their NX and a smartphone.
yeap Microsoft was actually starting to create a small niche in Japan with 360, but is really messing up not trying to keep a franchise like Blue Dragon running. Sony has taken steps to make sure they have a lot of games that can go head to to head with Halo/Gears. Just look at Uncharted and God of War but they also have all the Japanese games so they will win either way.
But Sony completely dominates Europe and honestly Microsoft is just keeping up in America (Although I do think as long as they don't screw things up they will retake America at some point).
Third Party has nothing to do with it. Wii U had Call of Duty for a few years and literally did nothing for the console.

I disagree because Nintendo fans don't buy 3rd party games. They Only need 3rd Party games if their goal was be the dominate console like 360 was and PS4 is. Clearly as long Nintendo's console is weak and doesn't have basic online functionality nobody will buy the multiplats on it.
It can't be backwards compatible to Wii U, but they may include 3DS backwards Compatibility if it really is a handheld.
