If you like FPS's it's flat out fantastic, IMHO. I'd actually say it's my #1 shooter of all time for multiplayer on consoles and that's actually my favorite genre.
Like Alpha Protocol earlier this year, the only people who didn't know this was going to flop horribly were the people making and funding its development everyone else could see this one coming from miles away.
It may not make plus look like a better deal but it sure makes bone stock free PSN look amazingly awesome. Charging for multiplayer is criminally stupid, IMHO.
If you buy a lot of games it's great, their prices are really reasonable for purchases. It's also an awesome way to preview/weed out games that aren't buy-worthy or complete things that are too short to merit full retail price.
I'd like to see shipping turn around faster, but that's my only real complaint.
Who's retarded now?
@The MART
Yeah, nothing good is coming out for the PSP anymore like SOCOM FTB3, Dante's Inferno (kicked ASS on the PSP), Modnation Racers, MGS: Peace Walker, Ys 7, Persona 3, Fat Princess, Valktria Chronicles 2, ALL out already in 2010 and it's not even holiday season yet.
People have been claiming the PSP "has no software" from day one and since then hundreds of great titles have been released but people still act like none of it is happening. They ...
Expensive GLASSES SUCK. The current Rev0 3D TVs that are out now, will be another "also ran" technology. The glasses free solution is going to win. If there's one thing that digital media/mp3 taught us is that after a certain plateau is reached *convenience* WINS.
I do, too. That way the last thing I see before my freaking potentially life threatening seizure will look totally awesome. :(
Introduction cut scenes ABSOLUTELY MUST BE SKIPPABLE. I like them for fleshing out a story but often the first thing I do when I buy a game is go to the tutorial or load the first level with a scratch character to check out the controls/gfx. I'm not in any mood to watch the whole fifteen minute "your mission if you choose to accept it", schtick.
Agreed. PSP OWNS. I love both of mine to death. Probably the best technology purchase I've made and the longest lasting one since my Atari 800 in the early 80s.
The PSP has been a MASSIVE success. 60M units is insane for a high end hand held video game system. Just because Nintendo's cheap kids toy system has been a retardedly monstrous seller doesn't mean the PSP isn't huge on its own. That's like saying the PS3 has been a huge failure because the Wii has...
DD is the future for handhelds, whether you guys can see it or not... especially at the high end.
The PSPGo device failed because it was an overpriced system that was compatible with a system that had already been established for four frickin years YET IT WAS NOT compatible with the existing media/software library. It literally brought nothing to the table, in fact it had negative value for the customer. That's why it failed, it was a terrible device for the consumer.
Right. Publishers need a cut of used product sales because all the game publishers are going broke.
Quick quiz:
The video game industry is going broke because of which of the following facts:
- It is expected to be a $68 **BILLION** dollar industry by 2012
- It GREW by nearly $5 BILLION in the worst recession of the last 50 years.
- Employees on average make almost $90K a year
- The computer and video game industry dir...
@OP: +1million
It's pretty clear none of the critics have made any effort to understand what the game-play actually entails. All the reports make it sound like the single player campaign lets you play against the 'mericans. All this freaking fuss and posturing is literally about a different skin used in a video game so you can tell the teams apart in multiplayer mode. For f*ck's sake, people are stupid.
They've already recouped their R&D many times over and all the production and manufacturing is in place. If it just increases sales and gets another year or two from the product line that is pure gravy for them (minus Marcus' salary/advertising cost which is negligible compared to R&D/manufacturing costs)... Adults are DONE with handheld media/game players... five years from now, everyone's going to feel like "iPod" was the fad of the 00's.
Ummm No... It's already happened, you probably just weren't paying attention:
PSP3000 == $169.99
DSi === $169.99
Makes total sense for the current generation PSP. Their niche was the "high end"... the PSP was fast as heck, had advanced music, network, and multimedia capabilities in addition to much better graphics, better screen, better controls, etc. Now, five years later cell phones have similar or better capabilities and no grown ups want to carry two devices (and the VERY few adult hardcore gamers who would even consider it want new hardware).
They're getting squeezed ...
Meh... there's room for both. The PSP has sold 60M units. That qualifies as a HUGE success for a high end handheld. Compare this to other super premium hardware handhelds of the day like the Atari Lynx and the NeoGeo Pocket and the PSP is a Monster success. You don't compare sales figures for Porsche Boxsters to Honda Accords and expect them to be similar. The devices have to recoup development costs, serve their users needs, and hold their niche in the market. By these standards both...
A friend of mine's teenage son came along when my buddy visited this weekend and ALL these goes do is play MW2. They're HUGE into it still... I mean that is literally the only game half his friends play and this almost a year later...
Treyarch knows their sh*t, too, last Trey game was held back by the tired WW2 scenario. I think MW2 will probably be the peak of the COD franchise sales-wise but this game will be HUGE compared to the other 2010 holiday releases definite...
Excellent analysis Game-ur, I feel pretty much the same way...
Most JRPGs do NOT meet these requirements for me, even some highly regarded franchises (most of the Final Fantasy series for example) but I get the appeal for those who can tolerate the grindage.
When an RPG does fit the requirements you set out, though, it's one of THE most satisfying types of games, IMHO, so I resepct any dev who tries. :)
I dunno if it would get voted GOTY by many sources but for me, it's the best console FPS of all time so far and like most here I've played them all... And since my opinion it that really matters to me, it's already a GOTY winner. :)
