"can Mario still stand up in a sea of deep games with more than just mushrooms and stars to their look?"

I think 4+ million people (so far) would say "yes." Super Mario Galaxy is proof that Mario is still relevant, and will likely be relevant for many years to come. I mean, why is it so hard for people to realize that there is enough room for zombie/alien/monster-killing and mushroom jumping and star gathering.

I love playing UT3, Half-Life, T...

I think the graphics are not as good as they could be. Super Mario Galaxy is proof that this game isn't taxing the wii in the least.

UT3, like all Unreal Tournaments are better played on a PC. Why would anyone deprive themselves of aiming accuracy, increased resolution and community developed content and play UT on a console?

That is your reason right there. Halo isn't better known than UT, UT players play on PCs, not on consoles.

Hey man, you have to watch Idiocracy, it would make the gaming world make so much more sense to you... It is a stupid, but funny movie.

While I agree that Master Chief is well known in North America, I would certainly not go as far as calling him "one of the most popular, iconic characters in videogame history." A title like that would mean that his character would be known by everyone, but it isn't. I mean, I didn't even know who Master Chief was until halfway through the year since I've never owned an XBox, or known anyone who owned one.

Mario on the other hand...

Oh, one last thing.....

"We also live in a age where some people try to put a spin on sales numbers. Look at Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Wii. The game has sold over 2 millions units in the US alone in a matter of only a few months since it's release and some people out there in the media are claiming that the game was a failure. How can those massive sales numbers be coined "failure"?"

Those are the sore fanboys who can't accept the fact that Super Mario Galaxy rules!!! Gre...

And yes, I did buy a blu-ray player, and no it wasn't a PS3. I don't know about all these comments about selling your HDTVs to play wii, but I wouldn't since the wii looks so much better on the new TV... It would just be plain silly to do so...

"cannot mass produce a product that is not really too advance...in a efficient and timely manner? "

Let's see, last time I checked both the cpus in the the XBOX, PS3 and wii all use the same 90nm fabrication process, hardly the latest and the greatest in silicon technology. Intel and AMD are SELLING cpus based on their 45nm fabrication processes (which as anyone with common sense would know is a more advanced process) to the average consumer.

Silicon is...

Isn't Nintendo only making around 1.8 mil consoles a month? I don't know if they are faking the shortages, but with the number of consoles they keep selling every week, why would anyone think they aren't selling every console they make?

I am so glad that I got mine the day it came out and I don't have to worry about finding a console to play my favourite games.

Now, I am ready for Okami whenever that games comes out...

"And this should not be surprise when it comes to Japanese market/people. just look at sales of western games there and its pathetic."

Is it not possible that western developers tend to generate western-style games that just simply do not appeal as much to the Japanese market? The comments of how "They like weird so-called-games there in Japan" are endless in this website, so wouldn't it be possible that the lack of success in Japan is due to a stereotype? I...

... they are good games and they are fun!

I have always had lots of fun playing Super Mario Kart, either in single player mode or in multiplayer mode. The game is just lots of fun to play. Smash brothers I have never played, but I will get this new version coming out for the wii because it seems like I am missing out on the fun this type of game brings...

"The Wii right now is just one of those odd phases and if and when it dies down you will be the 1st person I laugh at"

I wouldn't hold my breath if I was you. Last time I checked the Wii had sold more units than the 360 after coming to the market a WHOLE YEAR LATER!!!

And let's see? who should be laughed at, those who bought the wii a year ago (when the console is the same price today) or those who bought the PS3/360 at a higher price point that it is s...

I am sure that if they wanted to play online games they would fire up their computers and play online, so why xbox live? Not to mention the fact that the xbox doesn't really have a presence in Japan.
