Look, I see what you're saying, but let's face it: it is not even close to a tightly wound narrative. Even in the first chapter there are a number of missions that feel superfluous (which I initially, probably correctly, chalked up to being part of the games theme), which may have been ok if the game brought it back around into a satisfying build, but just when things start to get really interesting (I'd say the last 10 episodes of chapter 1), the game teases you with an epic fina...

While I agree with you to some extent, it's difficult to argue that this games story doesn't just Peter off. I actually really liked the bosses (although I do agree that more would have been appreciated), but I think the criticisms regarding the second chapter are warranted.

I was ready for a very gameplay driven MGS, and I liked the thematic elements of the game, but the story simply is not concise. I see what they were trying to do, having skull face die and then th...

Lol, and even in death, Metal Gear continues to be extremely divisive. Nothing New here.

I may agree with this article if the bonus cutscene actually felt like an ending, but it doesn't. Its just a cutscene that acknowledges something you did in the multiplayer, it has zero actual impact on the lore and is technically not cannon since in MGS1 they explicitly reference nuclear proliferation in the 80s. Its not another ending, it just isn't.

Right, I should clarify that I understand that, but Konami also had a notoriously low marketing budget for MGS4 and I suspect the same is true of MGSV based on how I haven't seen a single ad for it anywhere. According to a recent breakdown I read on Reuters, publishers typically get around $.42 on the dollar for retail purchases (the rest split between the retailer and money going towards platform owners which is around $.07 on the dollar). On top of that, digital sales aren't record...

18,000,000 * $60 = $1,080,000,000

$1,080,000,000 > $240,000,000

$240,000,000 / $60 = 4,000,000

Let us not forget, 3 million sales produces a LOT of revenue. I know that the stream gets thinned... but that seems really high to me.

3,000,000 * $60 = $180,000,000

$180,000,000 > $80,000,000

Am I missing something?

I did some reading, and it appears that for in-store sales (physical copies), publishers still end up with about half of the revenue (a little less). Still, the development cost would've been made back by now, just the marketing cost should be outstanding. This doesn't even factor in digital sales and the fact that the EU is getting price gauged like...

@ Jerry Meh, suit yourself. I guess I don't see why man on fire is a boss fight and Eli isn't. I do agree that fighting him twice was a strange decision, but the first encounter with him was, to me, the best in the game. I also think Sahelanthropus was the best mech fight, but I digress. I agree that there are many more that are better in the other games, but I think the ones that were in this game stand with the rest of them. I thought all of MGS 4s bosses were pretty meh. None of th...

I think that the futility of conflict and the cycle of revenge is the point if the games design. I'm a huge MGS fan, and I think this goes with the best of them. I wouldn't say it's my favorite, but it's a worthy addition to the series.

This. I think most MGS fans were not prepared for this much freedom. I can relate to the story woes in the second half, but I think this is one of the most marvelous games I've ever played. I think expectations were impossibly high. There were people on these forums thinking the game was going to end with you playing as Solid Snake sneaking into the mother base you built as Big Boss to take down Venom. THOSE WERE ACTUAL FAN EXPECTATIONS, OF COURSE UOU INSANE FANS ARE DISAPPOINTED.

And Eli! That was my favorite boss fight in the game. And, from my perspective there was two Sahoenathropus fights. So 5 encounters. That's still behind MGS2s 6 (the fewest in the series before).

Ok calm down. I think that from a gameplay perspective, he thought it was really special, and from a gameplay perspective it is. He always made it sound like story would take a back seat in this one, and it did. It's a bummer that there is some stuff missing at the end (and some open plot threads), but calling this game 66% finished is disingenuous. No one calls Shadow of the Colossus that, and there was supposed to be 25 collosi. Games have their content cut. Its what happens. The way it...

Let me elaborate: the world and size and quality of the Witcher is very impressive, but to me, the game feels like a walking simulator 95% of the time. There's an entire button dedicated to highlighting what you can press x on. The combat is Witchers only saving grace, but even then, once you upgrade your cool down time, it becomes a simplistic, boring slog. I digress, I know everyone has their own opinion, but to me the Witcher is unbelievably uncompelling gameplay-wise and I played on t...

Not just the story, but the pacing. Gta V had a pretty good story, but because of how long it was, it couldn't maintain the stakes. It makes me sad that gamers push for so much content. I think my list of favorite games is exclusively occupied by things that are under 20 hours long, right now, it feels like a game has to offer at least 40 hours of content to be considered a good value, and I don't like that.

MGS does have some problems, but at least its very fun. Witcher just felt like a big, boring chore to me.

I loved the bosses. Just wish there were a couple more.

You're totally right; the cuts are only news because the games second chapter feels unfinished. I don't know if you've gotten there, but it really does feel like there needs to be something else there.

C'mon dude, the game has some issues, but no open world game meets it's level of polish.
